Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore have a mini-St. Elmo’s Fire reunion
March 14th, 2022 under Andrew McCarthy, Brat Pack, Demi Moore, Reunions. [ Comments: 7 ]

Back in 1985, a movie came out called St. Elmo’s Fire, and it is said to be the movie that launched the Brat Pack. It starred Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy, Mare Winningham, Judd Nelson, and Emilio Estevez. Every teenager in the ’80s wanted their 20s to be like the characters in that movie.

That was then. The movie never got a sequel, so we were left to imagine what would happen to those friends when they were in the 50s. Over the weekend, we got to see that Jules and Kevin would still be hanging out in the year 2022.

So why did Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore reunite? The actor wrote, “Great talking with my old friend Demi Moore today for my Brat Pack documentary!” Now, I want to know all about that doc that he is making and who is going to be in it. If the documentary is as good as his autobiography, Brat, it is going to be even better than St. Elmo’s Fire.

Now, let’s talk about how incredible the two 59-year-olds look. They look even better now than they did then.

Anthony Michael Hall’s name is not Anthony Michael Hall
October 15th, 2021 under Anthony Michael Hall, Brat Pack, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Ryan Seacrest. [ Comments: none ]

Ever since the ’80s, we have known Anthony Michael Hall as Anthony Michael Hall. It turns out his name is not Anthony Michael Hall.

I have never heard that his name was anything but Anthony Michael Hall. Have you?

Well, yesterday, when Anthony Michael Hall was on Live with Kelly and Ryan, he revealed to Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that his birth name is Michael Anthony Hall.

So, why did he switch up his first and middle names? Back when he was a kid, actors in SAG were not allowed to have the same name as someone else in the union. Therefore, his parents decided to go with Anthony Michael Hall. And the rest is Hollywood history.

I can’t believe he was able to go over 40 years without us knowing any differently. Or am I the only one who didn’t know this?

The Psychedelic Furs’ singer says John Hughes misunderstood Pretty In Pink’s lyrics
August 17th, 2020 under 80s, Brat Pack. [ Comments: none ]

Back when I was in high school, our English teacher gave us a poem to read. We all thought it was about a man’s final moments on his death bed. Turns out, it was actually about him losing his virginity. Art’s interpretation is in the eye of the beholder.

Why am I telling you this? Back in 1986, a movie called Pretty In Pink came out. The film was inspired by the 1981 song of the same name. However, Richard Butler, the lead singer of The Psychedelic Furs, says that John Hughes mistook the meaning of the song.

In the coming of age of flick, it about Molly Ringwald being pretty in a pink dress. Butler told Sky News that it is not the pink he was talking about in the song.

“John Hughes – God rest his soul – kind of got the wrong end of the stick with that song.

“He made it to be literally about a girl that was wearing a pink dress and it wasn’t about that at all. It was about a rather unfortunate girl. Me saying pretty in pink meant somebody who is naked. It was a metaphor.”

Is Butler seeing red because the iconic filmmaker got it wrong? He told the interviewer, “…given that, the movie did us a lot of good. It was a double-edged sword because it increased our audience but a lot of people that were the darker set of our fans thought: ‘It’s a brat pack movie scene now and we are not really into that.'”

You can’t win them all.

If you think about it, Hughes’ mistake turned out to be a good thing for them. Who knows if they would still be touring (when bands can tour) today if it was not that misunderstanding of a birthday suit for a pink dress? Their original fans would have left them anyways, but that movie will be a coming of age movie for many decades to come. Therefore, that tune is giving them new fans all the time.

Now that you know the real meaning behind the song, listen to it again. You will hear how different it is than you remembered. It is like the red light in your head went on. Mind blown.

BTWF: Ally Sheedy for Pizza Hut
January 23rd, 2020 under Before They Were Famous, Brat Pack. [ Comments: none ]

Before Ally Sheedy was cleaning houses in Maid to Order, she was serving pizzas for Pizza Hut. She looks the same now as she did when she was 18 in that 1981 commercial.

An ’80s teen girl’s wet dream: Rob Lowe and Robert Downey Jr.!
October 1st, 2018 under Brat Pack, Rob Lowe, Robert Downey Jr., Wet dream. [ Comments: none ]

Back in the ’80s, Rob Lowe and Robert Downey Jr. were part of the infamous Brat Pack, but yet the two of them never did a movie together. Can you like totally believe that? Finally, after 30 years, the two of them did something together. They took this photo at Gwyneth Paltrow’s wedding this weekend.

I know that John Hughes is no longer with us, but there has to be a way to do a movie with all the Brat Packers. Fifty Candles at the Brunch Club?
