You know how Will & Grace feels like no time has passed since it ended its first run? Well, to me, Roseanne does not feel that way. The cast, the acting, the writing and the plots all seem very different from the show we know and love.
I could not figure out why, and then it hit me while I was doing a Before They Were Famous on John Goodman. When the show started out, Roseanne was a comedian, who just had a big break with an HBO comedy special, but she was still not a household name. John Goodman had been acting for around a decade and still had not had his big break. Same with Laurie Metcalf. Plus, the kids were all kids and this was their first big role.
They were hungry, they knew what it was like to be blue collar, to struggle. Today, they are making barrels of cash because of Roseanne being in high rotation in syndication. They are no longer the average man, they are the 1%. They cannot relate to the viewers anymore and I think the feeling is reciprocal. It is just not the same show.
For example, tonight at 8p on ABC, David is back and we find out why he left Darlene. It was not because they were young and stupid when they got together. It is not because they fell out of love. It is not because one of them had an affair. It is not the reason why most teenage couples grow apart. He left her to build houses overseas for people in need.
WTF? This is not the David we knew. He was a timid little mouse who was too afraid to leave Illinois, let alone the country. Darlene, I could see doing it in spite but not David.
That just goes to show how the writers are not only out of touch with the viewers, they are also out of touch with the show and its character. When it comes to the writers, they were just as hungry. Chuck Lorre did not have his own show on #1 show on TV. Joss Whedon was not a huge movie director. They were just two guys getting rumored to have been belittled by Roseanne.
Now you have successful people like Sara Gilbert, Wanda Sykes and Whitney Cummings writing the show. It changed the tone of the sitcom, and it feels like a whole new comedy with the same cast.
I want the Roseanne I watch on LAFF, We TV and TV Land back instead of what is airing on ABC now. I don’t think it is possible, but that is what I want.
What about you? How do you feel about the revival? Do you think it feels the same or different?
And my feelings have nothing to do with Roseanne’s politics, it has everything to with the show feels so forced now and not natural like it was the first go around.
I am sure that you have heard that Celebrity Family Feud is going to do a Kardashians vs the Wests episode this summer and today Steve Harvey talked about it on Ellen.
Ellen DeGeneres asked him how it happened and I am not sure he even knows how it all came about. Originally, it was supposed to be the Kardashian girls vs the Hiltons, but Paris and her family backed out at the last minute. When they got there, Kanye West brought his three cousins, Kris Jenner brought her mom and everyone wanted to play. Therefore, they made it the Kardashians vs the Wests with Kim on her husband’s team.
Once it was all settled, it was time to play the Feud. Harvey says that “Kim did not know nothing.” When it comes to West, the host said that Kanye is the best celebrity panelist they have ever had on the show. The rapper loves the game and could not stop smiling. Even his people said they never saw him smile as much as he did during the game. Who knew his facial muscles actually knew how to turn his frown upside down?
Thus, if you want to see Kanye smile and his wife look like a fool, then get ready for what Harvey says is the best Celebrity Family Feud ever. I am even going to tune in to watch it. Are you going to check it out?
Finally. To anyone who says that people who make their living in Hollywood have no business speaking out against politicians and their policies, I say why? You don’t have to be in show business to speak out about tv shows, movies, and music.
You know how people say that celebrities should not talk about politics? Well, Ken Olin said something that should shut those people up. The Thirtysomething star wrote, “To anyone who says that people who make their living in Hollywood have no business speaking out against politicians and their policies, I say why? You don’t have to be in show business to speak out about tv shows, movies, and music.”
If they can talk Hollywood, then the director of This Is Us can talk politics. Right? As long as we are citizens of the United States of America, then anyone can say what they want. Well almost anything, but you get what I mean.
Therefore, if anyone says you cannot talk politics, then tell they cannot talk about whatever you are doing. That is what I am going to say from now on when anyone questions why I am talking politics! What about you?
On Sunday night, American Idol had its worst ratings ever. Then on Monday, Katy Perry did something to get the ratings up. She was laughing so hard, she split her pants open.
Not only did she tell everyone she did it, she showed her a$$ to the audience. Lionel Richie tried to get her to do a Fonz and sit on it, but she kept exposing what she is for doing that.
How desperate is she for attention that she keeps having to pull stunts like this. When she is not exposing her butt, she is being the biggest horndog in the show’s run. She is making Steven Tyler look tame and that is not an easy thing to do.
C’mon Katy, you are on a show with young people that is being watched by younger people. Grow up and show some responsibility for your actions.
Instead of getting the show ratings, it is doing the opposite.
