Vanilla Ice didn’t know about his biopic with Dave Franco
July 24th, 2020 under Vanilla Ice. [ Comments: 1 ]

A few days ago, there were several reports that Dave Franco is going to play Vanilla Ice in a movie about the rapper. There is just one person who did not know about it. That person is Rob Van Winkle, aka Vanilla Ice.

How did Rob react when he heard the news? The Ice Ice Baby singer said, “Well, I woke up to some excitement today. Dave Franco announced that there’s going to be a movie about my life. And I don’t know how official it is, to be honest with you.” It doesn’t sound like it is going to be official at all if they didn’t tell the person it is about that they are going to make it.

Does Rob have any animosity towards Franco? Nope, he thinks he is a great guy, and he is “super honored.” However, he does some advice for the actor if he wants to be as Cool as Ice. Rob said, “Dave, you better learn how to dance. You better get some rhythym, bro.” Say what you want about Rob, but he did have rhythm back in the ’90s when he was charting with the rap songs.

On that note, Rob also revealed he is working on a documentary about his ’90s. Ice Ice Baby is coming out in the fall. He wants to remind us all to have fun again. Sometimes it feels like that was so last century. Get it?

Vanilla Ice cancels his Austin July 4th concert
July 2nd, 2020 under Coronavirus, Vanilla Ice. [ Comments: none ]

Vanilla Ice was going to play a concert in Austin, Texas tomorrow night, but he has made the very wise choice to cancel it.

Texas is one of the states that has been hardest hit by COVID-19, and it is getting worse by the day. The fact that he was planning on doing a standing room only show, would have been devastating to the Austin area. The people at his show would not be wearing masks, and if one person had it, then they can spread it to a few people, and then those people would spread it to a few people, and so on, and so on. Then Austin would be in Houston’s boat, and find themselves with hospitals at or near capacity in the ICU.

I honestly believe Rob Van Winkle when he says he didn’t know the numbers were that bad in Austin. I wish I was like him and oblivious to the news. If I didn’t have family, I actually love, there, I would probably would not know how bad it is either.

At least Rob did the right thing before it was too late. Especially because I was going to write a scathing post to him, and I didn’t want to do that. He helped me out in Miami, and I will never forgot that.

Is Vanilla Ice trying to put his fans on ice, ice?
June 25th, 2020 under Concerts/Tours, Coronavirus, Vanilla Ice. [ Comments: 4 ]

Ever since March live, in-person concerts have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Live Nation found a safe way around the risk by making them a drive-in experience, with each car having three-9′ parking spaces to their own.

I thought that would be the wave of the future until it was safe to go to concerts again. I was wrong. Vanilla Ice announced yesterday that he will be playing a live gig in Austin, Texas, on July 3rd. Standing room only tickets are going for $25 and $40.

Standing room only during a deadly virus? WTF? Texas has seen a huge rise of people infected with COVID-19 in the last week. It is so bad that the governor told people to stay home. Not only that, in Houston, they are running out of beds in the ICU, so they are going to send adult patients to a children’s hospital. So I have to ask why is Rob Van Winkle risking his fans’ lives?

Yes, it would be nice to have live music again, but not at the risk of dying. Several people went to a comedy show in Nashville, Tennessee, over the weekend, and barely anyone wore masks. Then all of a sudden, D.L. Hughley collapsed on the stage and turns out he tested positive for coronavirus the next day. What if he accidentally infected some of his fans?

We want to go back to normal, but at what risk? Do you want to be responsible for unknowingly giving it to someone who dies from it? Wear a mask and be responsible. I spent a chunk of my life as an AIDS activist and telling people to wear condoms. Now, I am telling you to wear masks and be smart. Ask yourself, is going to a live concert worth your life, a loved one’s life, or a stranger’s life? I don’t think so. If you do, then I hope you meet someone who is more caring than you are when you need them. Maybe then you can learn from them before it is too late.

Rob, I haven’t spoken to you since I lived in Miami. I am begging you, please, cancel this show. It is not the right time, and I am hoping you don’t want to risk your fan’s lives. Be better than Sammy Hagar.

A ’90s girl’s wet dream: Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc and Kid
February 4th, 2019 under 90s, Vanilla Ice, Wet dream. [ Comments: none ]

Back in the ’90s girls were listening to Vanilla Ice and Tone Loc while watching Kid ‘n Play, but never did the three meet. That was then, this is now.

The two rappers posed with DJ Born for a photo and the actor was able to photobomb them. I hope they invited him and talked about doing a movie together. Imagine the three of them doing a party movie? Girls from that era would run out to theaters to see. They might even go old school and buy the soundtrack on CD. Just like they did back then.

Chris Pine is as cool as Ice Ice Baby
January 25th, 2019 under Chris Pine, Jimmy Kimmel, Vanilla Ice. [ Comments: none ]

Chris Pine was on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday and the two of them were talking about all this music. Like going to concerts with their parents when they were kids and who is the best drummer in music? Then the I Am Night Star admitted he was in a band when he was in school and one of the songs he sang was Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice.

Then, the ABC host asked him he could still sing the song. Once you get those lyrics in your head (something I know because I lived in Miami around that time), they never go away. As you can see, Pine can still pretty much sing the first verse word for word. Rob Van Winkle would be proud proud baby.
