Matthew Broderick tests + for COVID-19 hours after appearing on Live with Kelly and Ryan
April 6th, 2022 under Broadway, Coronavirus, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Ryan Seacrest, Seth Meyers. [ Comments: 2 ]

Matthew Broderick is starring in Plaza Suite on Broadway with Sarah Jessica Parker. In order to get the word out about the play, which opened last week, the actor is doing press for it. Yesterday, he appeared on Live with Kelly and Ryan plus Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Then, when he was done with that part of his day, it was time for him to go to work. Before he could go on the stage, he had to do a COVID test. That is when the actor found out that he had tested positive for the virus after two tests, according to Broadway World.

This makes me wonder if the talk shows are doing enough to protect their hosts. For example, Meyers gave Broderick a quick hug when he came out, which could put the NBC host at risk. Something that would be bad because he has children that are too young to get vaccinated. However, I don’t know when Broderick taped that appearance, so Meyers could be in the clear.

When it comes to Live, I think you can kind of see that his eyes are watery. But I could be reading too much into it because I watched the interview after I knew he tested positive.

Pamela Anderson is coming to Broadway
March 7th, 2022 under Broadway, Pamela Anderson. [ Comments: none ]

Hulu is airing a series about what Pamela Anderson and her ex-husband, Tommy Lee, went through when their sex tape was stolen and went public.

For some reason, the fake show has been very good for the real Pamela Anderson. First, the actress and Netflix announced that she is telling her story in her words to the streaming service. And today, The Shubert Organization announced that she will be playing Roxie Hart in Broadway’s production of Chicago for 8 weeks starting on April 12th.

“I have always been a huge fan of Bob Fosse’s & Gwen Verdon’s work. Ann Reinking, too,” said Pamela Anderson. “Playing Roxie Hart is a dream fulfilled. Performing Fosse, you don’t have time to get in your head. You can’t dance, sing and think at the same time. There is a freedom, a unique joy in knowing it’s all about the work. Playing Roxie Hart is a sweet escape for me.”

I have a feeling she is going to be really good. We don’t give her enough credit. She is more than pretty blonde.

What is, how well do you know Broadway opening numbers?
July 13th, 2021 under Broadway, Jeopardy. [ Comments: none ]

Tell me you grew up with Broadway musicals without telling me you grew up with Broadway musicals.

How? The other night on Jeopardy, they had a category dedicated to Broadway Musicals By Opening Numbers. It was so easy that any fan of the Great White Way could get them all, which is why I did.

Too bad they didn’t make it really easy and ask Five-Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Six-Hundred Minutes. Although, they were all pretty easy.

I feel so smart! That is until I try the other categories. Then I am stoopid again.

Jimmy Fallon and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ode to Broadway’s return
June 9th, 2021 under Broadway, Jimmy Fallon, Lin-Manuel Miranda. [ Comments: none ]

Lin-Manuel Miranda is promoting his movie In the Heights. It is a movie that never would have been had it not started out as a Broadway musical.

For the first time, Broadway needs him more than he needs it. Therefore, yesterday when he was on The Tonight Show, he and Jimmy Fallon paid tribute to the Great White Way returning in September.

So, the two men called their famous friends up, reworked Hamilton’s You’ll Be Back, and performed a song and dance number that is worthy, of well, Broadway. September can’t come soon enough.

Broadway finally has a return date
May 5th, 2021 under Broadway. [ Comments: none ]

The lights have been dim on the Great White Way for almost 14 months, and today Governor Andrew Cuomo finally announced when they will turn them on again. The curtains will go up on Broadway on September 14th.

“We are thrilled that Governor Cuomo clearly recognizes the impact of Broadway’s return on the city and state’s economy and the complexity of restarting an entire industry that has been dormant for over a year,” said Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League. “Nothing beats Broadway. The theatre owners, producers, and other League members will continue to work with the NY State Department of Health and the Governor to coordinate the industry’s return and the related health and safety protocols required to do so. We remain cautiously optimistic about Broadway’s ability to resume performances this fall and are happy that fans can start buying tickets again.”

Tickets go on sale tomorrow. However, we don’t know what shows will be back when. According to Broadway World, they are expecting to announce their returns in the coming weeks.

The theaters will be able to be at 100% capacity when they open. However, there will be safety protocols to keep them in business and safe. They are “face coverings, health screening, enhanced air filtration and ventilation, and rigorous cleaning and disinfection,” per the website. I can’t wait to see all the fancy masks that the audience will be wearing.

Actually, I can’t wait to see Broadway open again. Even though I have not been back in NYC since the pandemic started. I can’t imagine Manhattan without the lullaby of Broadway. So come and meet those dancing feet on 42nd Street in the Fall.
