We have not had new episodes of Young Sheldon, Ghosts, and So Help Me Todd, since May. And they are finally back on CBS tonight.

The night starts with Young Sheldon at 8p, and it picks up right after the tornado hits Medford. MeeMaw (Annie Potts) saw that her house was destroyed, and that means she, her future daughter-in-law Mandy (Emily Osment), and her granddaughter have nowhere to live.

Well, they do. They can stay across the street at her daughter’s house. Luckily, there is a little more room there because Mary (Zoe Perry) and Sheldon (Iain Armitage) are in Germany so that he can study at one of their colleges. When Mary finds out about the tornado, she wants to fly home, but Sheldon is insistent they stay. So they do.

Back in Medford, Missy (Raegan Revord) is in charge. Even though she is the youngest person, minus the baby, in the household, she is the most mature. She takes over and keeps the house in order. And they are going to need it while her mother is overseas.

It is not like her father (Lance Barber) or her older brother (Montana Jordan) are up for the job. And they are happy to let her do the job.

Even though their World has been turned upside down, the Coopers have their stuff together.

And they also bring so much laughter and so much heart. It makes me sad that this is the series last season. Enjoy it while you can.

Then at 8:30p, we finally find out who was sucked up on Ghosts! And it has been tortorous waiting this long.

So, who will Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) and Sam (Rose McIver) find out who has moved on? Is it Thor (Devan Chandler), Sass (Román Zaragoza), Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Nigel (John Hartman), Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Flower (Sheila Carrasco), Pete (Richie Moriarty), or Trevor (Asher Grodman)?

I am not going to tell you who it is. But I will tell you that despite several ghosts making guest appearances, it is one of the souls I mentioned above.

It is not who I thought it was. But their departure makes sense.

Even though we are losing someone we love, Ghosts still delivers a heartfelt episode that you just want to hug.

I didn’t realize how much I missed this sitcom until I watched the season 3 premiere. I am so happy it is back! Never leave me for that long again.

Then at 9p, So Help Me Todd is back with its best episode to date.

Now that Todd (Skylar Astin) is a licensed Private Investigator again, he has set up shop in his mother’s law firm.

Margaret (Marcia Gay Harden), who has just been promoted to partner, is not going to allow him to do that. If he wants to use their offices, he has to work only for her. But, more on that later.

As soon as Margeret walks into the office, she is assigned her first job as partner. And that task is to lay off some of the staff because they have lost several accounts and need the money.

She doesn’t want to do that, so she takes on the case of a morning anchor (Lisa Rinna) who is accused of killing her co-anchor live on the air.

Together, the mom and son are going to try to find out who really did it. And it is a good thing that Todd put out feelers because the person who might know more about the murder wants to hire him to clear his name.

What does he know? And is he the person they need to solve the case?

And if that is not enough. Margaret has to deal with the fact that her husband, who ran away to Iceland without telling her he was going, is back, just when she found a new man to be in her life.

It is a lot. But this show is a fun roller coaster ride you don’t want to get off of. It is a fast-moving, entertaining show that leaves you guessing until the final reveal. Plus, the characters play off of each other so well that you tune in to watch their chemistry like you did Laurel & Hardy.

CBS announced today that it picked up So Help Me Todd for a second season. The legal procedural stars Marcia Gay Harden as a top lawyer who hires her troubled son (Skylar Astin) to work as a private investigator at her firm. Each week, they try to save their relationship and their client. Both tasks are not easy for them to accomplish.

“SO HELP ME TODD has charmed viewers with the incomparable chemistry between Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “With the series’ unique blend of captivating legal drama, laugh-out-loud humor and intriguing family dysfunction, it’s no wonder the audience continues to grow. I am delighted that these two inimitable characters and their entertaining banter will extend into a second season.”

The drama joins Ghosts, The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, Young Sheldon, The FBIs, The Equalizer, and Fire Country on the network’s 2023-2024 schedule.

You can watch a new episode tonight at 9p.

So Help Me Todd is a legal procedural with a family twist

Legal procedurals don’t have to be so uptight, they can be fun like CBS’s So Help Me Todd which debuts tonight at 9p.

Todd (Skylar Astin) is a PI who had his license revoked. He is irresponsible, unlike his mother, Margaret (Marcia Gay Harden), who is a top lawyer. All she wants is for her son to get his life back on track.

However, her life is about to go off track when her husband suddenly goes missing. Todd uses his magic to try to track him down, and that impresses his mom so much so that she decides to hire him at the firm where she works at so she can keep track of him and use his skills.

Not everyone is happy about his hire. Lyle (Tristen J. Winger) already does the firm’s research, and he thinks his way works best. He is very anal and doesn’t agree with Todd’s fly-by-the-seat ways. Can they win each other over?

Todd’s sister, Allison (Madeline Wise), is already on his side. She also has to be a buffer between her mother and her brother. Something that is not easy because she has to remember to keep their secrets and lies from the other one. She sometimes forgets what to hide. That and she gets caught in the middle. It makes it more difficult that her brother lives with her, and his mom wants him to grow up and get his own place.

Now that he is working with her, she is hoping she can get him in check. While he is hoping to get, his mom to loosen up. Little by little, they rub off on the other one. All while making sure that her clients get the best defense due to their skills.

This show is a procedural, but it also has a lot of heart. So it is the perfect dramedy to follow Ghosts and lead into CSI: Vegas. CBS has a must-see Thursday, and I am looking forward to next week and the week after that, and so on.

Can Zoey be as happy as Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist makes us?
January 26th, 2021 under Alex Newell, Skylar Astin, Ted Danson Mary Steenburgen, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 8p on NBC on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Zoey (Jane Levy) is going to try to be happy after being egged on by Mo (Alex Newell) to try it. I mean, you can’t blame her for being sad. In the last two months, she lost her father, her mentor/boss moved away, and she broke up with her boyfriend. That is a lot to handle.

How long can she handle being happy before something brings her down? Not too long. As soon as she gets to work, she is given her toughest challenge yet as the new boss. While that is her challenge, Max (Skylar Astin) and Mo prepare to launch their business. How will their opening night go?

Talking about openings, David (Andrew Leeds) has a big case, and his family decides to watch him give his opening statement at court. While he is talking to the judge, he starts to sing a heart song that only his sister can hear. And I am so happy to hear him sing a solo. It is about time he got one.

And when it comes to getting one, is the recently widowed Maggie (Mary Steenburgen) about to get a new boyfriend? How will she handle someone flirting with her?

All of this leads to an ending that will have Zoey flirting with danger. But I have said too much. I will say I cannot wait to see where the show goes next after that. Then again, I am always looking forward to their next episode? How can you not love this darling show that brings me and so many others happiness. It is what we all need.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist did a good, good thing
January 12th, 2021 under Alex Newell, Skylar Astin, Ted Danson Mary Steenburgen, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 8p on NBC, Zoey (Jane Levy) is finally going to do the bad, bad thing with the man she chose from her love triangle on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. However, it won’t be easy because she and Max (Skylar Astin) will not be able to get any privacy. Then when they do, she will hear his heart songs. How awkward will that make their lovemaking? That is if they can ever make love.

One of the people that interrupts them is her mom. Maggie (Mary Steenburgen) is still dealing with the loss of her husband, and she doesn’t know what to do with herself. Thankfully, she will find something that will not only help her, but it will also her daughter-in-law (Alice Lee), who is adjusting to being a new mom.

Maggie is not the only thing cock blocking them, so is Mo (Alex Newell). Mo and Max are going into business together, but things sour when Max asks Mo to sign a contract. Why did this upset Mo so much?

What is really upsetting Zoey is that her company’s new watches are on fire. As in, they are literally catching on fire. Now, Zoey, Leif (Michael Thomas Grant), Simon (John Clarence Stewart), and her team at SPRQ Point need to figure out what is causing the problem and how to fix it. Will they be able to find out what is wrong before it is too late?

All of that plus several song and dance numbers. What more do you need to watch last season’s best new show? Especially, since it airs before This Is Us. What a perfect duo for our Tuesday nights in lockdown.
