Can Zoey be as happy as Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist makes us?

Tonight at 8p on NBC on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Zoey (Jane Levy) is going to try to be happy after being egged on by Mo (Alex Newell) to try it. I mean, you can’t blame her for being sad. In the last two months, she lost her father, her mentor/boss moved away, and she broke up with her boyfriend. That is a lot to handle.

How long can she handle being happy before something brings her down? Not too long. As soon as she gets to work, she is given her toughest challenge yet as the new boss. While that is her challenge, Max (Skylar Astin) and Mo prepare to launch their business. How will their opening night go?

Talking about openings, David (Andrew Leeds) has a big case, and his family decides to watch him give his opening statement at court. While he is talking to the judge, he starts to sing a heart song that only his sister can hear. And I am so happy to hear him sing a solo. It is about time he got one.

And when it comes to getting one, is the recently widowed Maggie (Mary Steenburgen) about to get a new boyfriend? How will she handle someone flirting with her?

All of this leads to an ending that will have Zoey flirting with danger. But I have said too much. I will say I cannot wait to see where the show goes next after that. Then again, I am always looking forward to their next episode? How can you not love this darling show that brings me and so many others happiness. It is what we all need.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist did a good, good thing
January 12th, 2021 under Alex Newell, Skylar Astin, Ted Danson Mary Steenburgen, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 8p on NBC, Zoey (Jane Levy) is finally going to do the bad, bad thing with the man she chose from her love triangle on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. However, it won’t be easy because she and Max (Skylar Astin) will not be able to get any privacy. Then when they do, she will hear his heart songs. How awkward will that make their lovemaking? That is if they can ever make love.

One of the people that interrupts them is her mom. Maggie (Mary Steenburgen) is still dealing with the loss of her husband, and she doesn’t know what to do with herself. Thankfully, she will find something that will not only help her, but it will also her daughter-in-law (Alice Lee), who is adjusting to being a new mom.

Maggie is not the only thing cock blocking them, so is Mo (Alex Newell). Mo and Max are going into business together, but things sour when Max asks Mo to sign a contract. Why did this upset Mo so much?

What is really upsetting Zoey is that her company’s new watches are on fire. As in, they are literally catching on fire. Now, Zoey, Leif (Michael Thomas Grant), Simon (John Clarence Stewart), and her team at SPRQ Point need to figure out what is causing the problem and how to fix it. Will they be able to find out what is wrong before it is too late?

All of that plus several song and dance numbers. What more do you need to watch last season’s best new show? Especially, since it airs before This Is Us. What a perfect duo for our Tuesday nights in lockdown.

The day the music didn’t die for Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

It has been a month since NBC was supposed to announce their lineup for the 2020-2021 season, but they haven’t announced it yet because everything is up in the air because of the coronavirus pandemic. Several of their shows were left waiting to find out if they would still have a home on the network.

Good Girls was told they things are still good with the bad girls. The fat lady sang for Perfect Harmony. The Bone Collector killed Lincoln Rhyme. Manifest is still not sure if it crashed and burned or if it will land safely on their schedule. Indebted is waiting to find out if they indebted to NBC.

Finally, there is Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Did the music die for last season’s best new show? NOPE! They will be around to sing for another day, which is a good thing for the peacock network. If they had silenced their actors’ voices, then we would have gone nuts. As in found something to send them like when we sent CBS peanuts to save Jericho. We could have sent them cereal because of the cereal bar that is at her office. But we don’t have to do that because the series is coming back!

If you missed out on the musical dramedy when it aired, I highly suggest you watch it now on NBC’s app, OnDemand or Hulu. ZEP is about workaholic programmer Zoey (Jane Levy) whose life changes while she is stuck in an MRI machine during an earthquake. When Zoey gets out of it, she now has the ability to hear people’s heart songs. As in, she is the only one who can see them sing and dance. Something that seems like a curse to her, and a dream come true for us viewers.

ZEP also stars Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Peter Gallagher(?), Mary Steenburgen, and Lauren Graham.

Now I am off to watch to some more of the amazing song and dance numbers from the first season like the above one that was shot in one take. You read that right, the finale, not the swan song, was done in one take. Now you know you want to see more, don’t you?

I just want to know if we should be reading too much into her five last words of the season, “They day the music died.”

Alex Newell’s four bitch faces
June 1st, 2020 under Alex Newell. [ Comments: none ]

@thealexnewell

Im honestly too good at it! ##maincharacter

♬ 4 types of bitch face yall follow me – gabesco

We all have at least one bitch face that we have perfected. However, Alex Newell is better than all of us. The actor has not one, not two, not three, but four different ones ready to use if anyone actually thinks they can out bitch Alex. Something that would be impossible to do to Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist star.

Out of all of Alex’s bitch faces, which ones do you think you can do best (because you cannot do better)? I have so mastered the resting bitch face! But then again, I am just a natural bitch!

There’s a Bad Moon Rising on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’s season finale
May 3rd, 2020 under Alex Newell, Peter Gallagher, Ted Danson Mary Steenburgen, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. [ Comments: none ]

Get your tissues ready for tonight’s season finale of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist on NBC tonight at 9p.

The episode starts off with Zoey (Jane Levy) singing Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Bad Moon Rising, and now she wants to know what it means? Does it have anything to do with her BFF Max (Skylar Astin) getting fired from his job? Is Joan (Lauren Graham) getting fired over the failed bake-off for Chirp? Did something happen to Simon (John Clarence Stewart), who went to his estranged mother’s wedding in Las Vegas? What about Mo (Alex Newell), who is not taking their breakup very well? Is there something wrong with her brother David (Andrew Leeds) and Emily’s (Alice Lee) baby? And then there is her dad (Peter Gallagher) who is in the final stages of his life?

Just when you think you know what is going to happen, they find a way to surprise. The one thing that won’t surprise you is how well they tug are your heartstrings. Thus, why you need the tissues.

Tonight’s episode a nice tribute to a great season of television. We need more shows like it on the air. Enough procedurals, why can’t a drama be a feel-good one.

One spoiler note, the season ends with a finale number that includes the whole cast.
