Before Donald Faison went to MIT on EXtended Family, he went to Western Kentucky State University on Wrote It, You Watch It. He looks the same now as he did when he was 18 in that 1992 episode.
So, I am a huge fan of the late Irene Cara. Therefore, when I heard Zach Braff and Donald Faison singing Flashdance…What a Feeling with different lyrics in a commercial for T-Mobile; I was like, what the fuck is going on? Does her estate really need the money that badly?
However, then things took a turn. Jason Momoa started singing and dancing with them. And now I want Aquaman to do a musical. Braff’s light grey sweatshirt slipped off her shoulder like it did in the movie poster. And finally, Jennifer Beals, who starred in the film, made an appearance.
And now, I need a bucket of water to fall on me and cool me down because I feel like a Maniac.
Extended Family is the best new sitcom of the season, and tonight at 8:30p, we are getting another new episode on NBC.
The sitcom is about divorcees Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer), who are co-parenting their children, Grace (Sofia Capanna) and Jimmy (Finn Sweeney). As in, the parents are one week on and one week off at their marital home.
Julia has moved on because she is engaged to Celtic’s owner, Trey (Donald Faison). Tonight, he gets his first test of parenting.
It is time for the switchover, and Julia is tied up with something else. Therefore, Trey is in charge. So, when Grace asks if her friend can come over for a sleepover, he says yes.
He got this. That is until she comes over crying because her boyfriend dumped her.
Can Trey handle this? Good thing Jim didn’t leave, so he will help his future ex-wife’s husband out.
And they will work together to help Grace out as an extended family.
If that is not reason enough to watch, then how about seeing Cryer caught with his pants down? That got me tuning in!
For decades, the perfect family show consisted of a married couple and their children. But that was then, and this is today.
NBC’s Extended Family is a family show for 2024. That means it is a divorced couple trying to navigate their new normal with their kids. And in the case of this sitcom, when one of the spouses meets someone new.
Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer) were married for 17 years, but like half of the marriages, theirs ended in divorce.
They are the parents of two kids, and they have an interesting custody agreement. They each have one week on and one week off at their old place. So, the kids get to stay in their rooms. And it seems to be working.
Julia has moved on, and she is now engaged to the Celtics’ owner, Trey (Donald Faison). He has never been married, nor has he had any kids. So, he is trying to navigate all of this for the first time.
Julia is there to help him, but Jim is not. However, Jim has no choice because Trey is going to be part of their family. And Trey is learning that he has to give in to Jim because he is the father, and it is still his house.
And that sums up what Extended Family is. It is a family trying to work things out post-divorce with a new partner in the mix.
And this is the reality for so many families today.
Tonight at 8:30p on NBC, Jim gets pulled over with Trey and his kids in the car. Jim gets off with a warning because of who Trey is, and he thinks it is bad for the kids to see they can get away with stuff because of who they are.
Trey doesn’t think it is a problem. But Jim complains to Julia, and now she has to lecture her fiance’ about being a better influence on her children.
Will Trey be able to adjust to his new role as a future stepfather, or will Jim have to stop being so neurotic? You just have to tune into this season’s funniest sitcom! And one of the only family comedies on television. And families need a show to watch together. Because not watching family sitcoms leads to divorce, according to a BS study I just made up in my head.
And talking about things that just came to my head, it took me a few episodes to realize that this is a modern take on the family sitcom. And because of that, it deserves to be given a chance. So give it a chance, and fall in love with it like I have.
Due to the Writers and Actors’ strikes, the 2023-2024 season was delayed. However, tonight at 8p, it is back with Night Court and Extended Family on NBC.
The Night Court sequel’s second season begins where it left off, and Roz (Marsha Warfield) coming before Judge Dan Fielding (John Laroquette) in New Orleans.
The two old friends catch up when he visits her in her jail cell. We find out that the former bailiff is now a private investigator. She convinces Dan to help her on a case in NYC, and he is reunited with his Night Court friends.
Since he left, they have been busy. Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch) has been dating again now that she split from her fiancé. So, she is still willing to meddle in people’s personal lives, especially if it is about love.
Gurgs (Lacretta), the bailiff, spent some time in London, and she is more sophisticated because of that.
And then there is Olivia (India de Beaufort). She hasn’t done anything, so she comes up with a new carer. Can she do it?
And now that Dan is back in NYC, will he decide to stay? Why would he leave his dream job for a nightmare one? Abby is going to try her hardest to get him to stay.
And with the sitcom is back, and just in time!
Then at 8:30p, it is time to get to know divorcees Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer) better as they try to make their Extended Family better.
They divorced a year ago after 18 years of marriage, and they decided to split their time in their old place for their kids, Grace (Sofia Capanna) and Jimmy (Finn Sweeney).
Julia has moved on and is engaged to Trey (Donald Faison), who owns the Boston Celtics.
Now that they are engaged, Julia wants him to stay over when it is her week. However, Jim brings up that their constitution doesn’t allow that to happen until they are married.
Together, they will have to negotiate the contract. And that will be the first of a few issues they will have to deal with from their signed deal. What happens when Trey does something to break it and gets caught by Jim?
Will it tear their Extended Family apart or bring them closer together?
You will just have to watch to find out. That, and to get to know a new comedy that will make you laugh because it is so smart. And it is also relatable to so many exes.
