On Monday, Dolly Parton bowed out of her nomination to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because she says she is not worthy of the honor. Shortly after that, Dionne Warwick told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she is also not interested in being inducted because she is not a Rock’n’Roller.
Warwick then went on to say they should rename it the Music Hall of Fame so musicians of all genres would feel welcome. And I think she has a point. Of the five musicians that are currently in the lead, only Pat Benatar is a Rocker. Duran Duran and Eurythmics are New Wave, Parton is Country, and Eminem is Rap.
So, if Dolly dropped out, does that mean that Judas Priest, who are Rockers, will be inducted instead? The Rock & Roll Foundation released the below statement:
All of us in the music community have seen Dolly Parton’s thoughtful note expressing her feeling that she has not earned the right to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to her incredible talent as an artist, her humility is another reason Dolly is a beloved icon by millions of fans around the world.
From its inception, Rock and Roll has had deep roots in Rhythm & Blues and Country music. It is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton’s music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed. Her nomination to be considered for induction into to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered.
Dolly’s nomination, along with the other 16 artists for the class of 2022, was sent out earlier this month to our 1,200 general ballot voters, the majority of whom are artists themselves, for consideration for induction at our ceremony.
We are in awe of Dolly’s brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
So, I guess the answer is yes. Therefore, we will have to see if she is inducted, will she show up to the party.
I know of one band, who almost didn’t show up because they were expected to pay for their tickets and were encouraged to buy a table. It is not that they didn’t have the money, they were against it in principal. If only I knew then to tell him how my friend paid to accept his Tony award, an award that wasn’t even presented on television.
Dolly Parton is nominated to be part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. According to the voting fans, it looks like she was going to make it in. I say was because today the beloved singer wrote a message to the museum.
Dolly here! Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.
I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again – if I’m ever worthy. This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and, has always encouraged me to do one. I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment. Rock on!
Parton is worthy of being in there with all of the music she has created and the accomplishments she has achieved in her over 50-year career. I mean, she wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day! She also came up with the music for 9 to 5 by playing it on her nails. I could go on. She deserves to be there along with this year’s other noms, Duran Duran, Eminem, Pat Benetar, and Eurythmics, who are looking like they will make it in.
But, that is Dolly for you. She doesn’t want the credit for being who she is. Because of that, she deserves all the accolades she turns down.
We should aspire to be like her, as should every Rock star who comes after her.
Oh, and by her dropping out, it looks like Judas Preist will be joining the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame. Unless the American Idol fans start voting for Lionel Richie like they are voting for the next American Idol.
Dolly Parton has an album and a book with James Paterson coming out on March 4th, and she has been working 9 to 5 to get the word out about Run, Rose, Run.
The singer got into the kitchen with Duncan Hines and is releasing some special dessert mixes and frostings with them. She is going to host the American Country Awards next week on Prime Video. And today, Parton announced she teamed up with 1-800-Flowers to curate three rose bouquets in honor of International Women’s Day on May 8th.
“I remember as a little girl, running into the meadows behind our house so I could pick fresh flowers for my mama. I loved the smell and that they felt like a little ray of sunshine that I could share,” recalls Parton. “To this day, I feel the same way. I’m partial to yellow roses, but I love all different kinds of flowers. So, join me and send a little bit of sunshine to the special woman in your life with 1-800-Flowers.com. Plant a seed with love.”
The flower arrangements are Dolly’s Yellow Rose Bouquet, Dolly’s Roses of Many Colors, and Dolly’s ‘Lil Rose Bouquet. They run from $39.99 to $71.99. Each bouquet comes with a digital message from Miss Dolly and an option to add a digital copy of the album and the book.
The bouquets are available from now until March 11th. And if you feel like sending me one with her favorite flower, yellow roses, I won’t send them back!
Before Dolly Parton revealed she would love to sing a duet with Keith Urban, he was singing her songs all by himself. How talented was the 11-year-old, with his signature mullet, singing Applejack back in 1970?
Dolly Parton was recently on GMA talking about her cake line with Duncan Hines, and they asked her who she would like to do a duet with.
“Probably any of the good looking ones,” she said. “I love Keith Urban. I’ve always thought he was one of the most talented cutest guys in the World…I love his writing. And I just think he is dear. So I would be happy to make a big old cake for him and spend all afternoon singing songs.”
The word got back to Mr. Nicole Kidmam, and he wrote to Miss Dolly, “Name the time and place
@DollyParton… we’ll be there.” I am surprised that he didn’t just show up at her doorstep as soon as he heard. That is what I would have done if she said she would want to do anything with me. I wouldn’t give her time to change her mind.
Oh, and Parton wants Kidman to know that she is not trying to hit on her husband. Actually, she paid the Oscar nominee a compliment and called her “Jolene.” Hmmm, is that really a compliment???
