Will Smith breaks his silence, should’ve stayed silent
July 29th, 2022 under Chris Rock, Will Smith. [ Comments: none ]

It has been about three months since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars over a bad joke the latter made about Jada Smith. Since then, he has been silent, but today he released an apology video.

Smith says that he reached out to Rock, but the victim is not ready to talk to him just yet. And if I were Rock, I wouldn’t talk to him because I think Smith would turn it into a publicity stunt.

The actor apologized to Rock’s family, his family, and the nominees, but not the hosts.

Smith also said that he was not provoked by his wife’s eye roll. He reacted to his history with Rock making fun of him and his wife.

The Bad Boy says, “disappointing people is his personal trauma. I hate when I let people down.” Then he said he is working on himself because of that, he is “deeply remorseful. And I am trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself.”

Smith admits that he made a mistake, but he is not trying to think of himself as a “piece of shit.” But he is for what he did. And admitting that will help him move forward in our eyes.

Finally, he concluded the nearly six-minute “apology” video with, “If you hang on, I promise we’ll be able to be friends again.”

So what is my take on this video? For someone who won the Oscar for Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards, I would think he could’ve done a better acting job.

For someone who says he is remorseful, I didn’t see any of that. All I saw was his co-star in I, Robot.

Do you forgive him after watching this?

The Rock turns down hosting the Emmys
July 15th, 2022 under Chris Rock, Emmys, The Rock. [ Comments: none ]

The Rock/Instagram

There have been rumors that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences asked The Rock and Chris Rock to host this year’s Emmys. How Rockin’ would that be?

So far, there has been radio silence from both actors. But then, Chris Rock’s people told Entertainment Tonight, “He’s in the middle of his tour and is preparing for the taping of his comedy special, which will be taping this fall.”

Now that ET knows the comedian’s answer, what about DJ? “It was just schedule. I was really, truly honored when they came to me and asked, but it was just a scheduling thing,” he told ET. “That’s all. That’s really what it comes down to.”

The Emmys air on September 12th on NBC. So I betcha they are going to ask someone from Saturday Night Live to do it. I just hope and pray it is not Pete Davidson. It is going to be Pete Davidson. And now I am mad at the Rocks for making us suffer through that.

Will Smith resigns from the Academy
April 1st, 2022 under Chris Rock, Oscars, Will Smith. [ Comments: 1 ]

Five days after Will Smith ruined the Oscars by slapping Chris Rock over a stupid joke, he has had made a decision about his future with the Academy. The disgraced actor sent a letter to AMPAS and has resigned as a member.

I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film. So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate.
Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.

I wonder what finally made him decide to do it. Was it the interviews and comments by the people who worked on the show where they claim he traumatized them? All that Chris Rock did to save his ass on Sunday night, and how Rock has taken the high road when he performed live this week? Or did he realize there is no way to come back after Sunday unless he starts showing some humility?

It is a start, but is it enough? Time will tell.
