Back in 1984, we all fell in love with an awwwwdorable Mogwai called Gizmo. However, he turned ugly when someone fed him after midnight. He got even uglier when someone got the gremlin wet and he multiplied. Wreaking havoc in Kingston Falls. Now 35 years, instead of getting a third movie, we are going getting a 10-episode animated prequel from WarnerMedia.
The 30-minute animated show will “travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
While it might not be Gremlins 3, it is better than nothing. Actually, it might even be better because it is Gizmo’s story and we love Gizmo! Hopefully, there will be merchandising to go with it because I want a Gizmo doll. Who wouldn’t?
Back in the ’80s, Flashdance changed up what music can mean to a movie, so what would it be like without Irene Cara’s chart-topping song What a Feeling? It would be so lackluster we would still not be talking about the movie today.
Now I want to know what the strip club dance would be like without Shandi’s He’s a Dream. Probably the same because no one was listening to the music.
Katrina and the Waves’ Walking on Sunshine is one of the happiest songs ever recorded, but what if it wasn’t? DJ Cummerbund mixed the 1985 tune with Alice In Chains’ Would and now all I want to do is cry. Not because he destroyed the song (quite the opposite), but he made the single very depressing. I feel like I am walking a tightrope and nothing but doom and gloom is below me. Who knew such darkness could come from such light, but if you change up the melody that is exactly what happened.
DJ Cummerbund has done a lot of great mashups like Pearl Jam’s Jeremy with Kenny Loggins’ Footloose, and I think this one is his best. Even if I just went through a box of tissues.
Back in the ’80s, Billy Idol and Bryan Adam were two of the decade’s biggest rockers. The Rebel Yell singer was a harder rocker while the Summer of ’69 one was softer. Which means, they were opposites and they would not have gone on tour together.
That was then and this is now. They are no longer only Dancing with Myself because 35 years later, the two of them are hitting the road in August together with an epic 8-city tour in the North East. Giving fans of the ’80s a wet dream of a double bill.
Hopefully, if it makes a lot of Mony, Mony, they will expand their dates to the rest of the country. So on May 1st, Run to You computer and get your tickets to see them rocking. I bet you it is a night that will leave you in Heaven.
I wonder what song they will sing together on the tour? I am thinking it will be the Canadian’s Diana because it was about Princess Diana and Idol is British.
Def Leppard is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they working the press circuit to promote it. This morning, they were on Good Morning America and they might have revealed what their biggest hit Pour Some Sugar On Me is really about.
Here I have thought for all of this time that it was about sex, but it is really about putting sugar in a coffee cup? Color me red light, yellow light, green-a-light surprised!
BTW I wonder how many times they have been asked to do that since the single came out in 1987?
