Netflix
I don’t know about you, but I was completely devastated yesterday when it was reported that Joey Chestnut would not be competing in this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest because he has been promoting another company that makes plant-based weiners.
To me, this is my Super Bowl. So it would be like Tony Romo or Patrick Mahomes being forced to drop out days before the big game.
Well, today, I am excited! That is because on Labor Day, or September 2nd, Nathan’s two biggest winners, Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, are going to go hot dog to hot dog on Netflix.
The two competitive eaters will go mouth to mouth to see who is the GOAT of swallowing the most hot dogs and buns in a short amount of time.
The last time they stood on the same stage was at Coney Island 15 years ago, and Chestnut won the matchup.
In total, Chestnut has won the title 16 times, and Kobayashi brought home the belt only six times. He was forced to drop out after that matchup due to a contract dispute.
The streaming service doesn’t care about all of that, so they are letting the two rivals find out who the King of the Swallowing Hot Dogs Whole is!
“Retiring for me will only happen after I take him down one last time,” said Kobayashi. “This rivalry has been brewing for a long time. Competing against Joey live on Netflix means fans all over the world can watch me knock him out.”
“Through all of my years in competitive eating, Kobayashi stands out as my fiercest rival,” said Chestnut. “Competing against him pushed me to be so much better. I know that fans have waited a long time for another chapter of our rivalry and I can’t wait for our massive showdown live on Netflix! It’s time to give the people what they want!”
And I want this. I really, really want this. So Netflix, I have two words for you and they are thank and you!
