Troy Kotsur’s win is what the Academy Awards are all about
March 27th, 2022 under Oscars. [ Comments: 1 ]

The Oscars are a bunch of elitist bull for the most part. However, every now and again, they surprise us by getting it right. Tonight they did so by giving Troy Kotsur the Best Support Actor award for his work in CODA.

I immediately got chills when a majority of the audience signed their applause as he walked to the stage. Then I was oohing and aahing as last year’s Best Supporting Actress Youn Yuh-jung stayed on the stage to hold his statuette so that he could sign his speech.

And what a speech it was. It was heartfelt as he thanked his director Sian Heder for the job she did. I laughed when he told the story about how he wanted to teach President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden curse words in ASL. My heart went out to him when he revealed that his father was in an accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down and was no longer able to sign.

Finally, as he left the stage, he was greeted with a standing ovation and the audience waving their hands back and forth.

It is everything that the Oscars should be! I am so happy we had that moment.

Miley Cyrus dedicated tonight’s performance to Taylor Hawkins
March 26th, 2022 under Miley Cyrus. [ Comments: none ]

It has been a tough week for Miley Cyrus, but the show must go on. And it did tonight in Brazil as Lollapalooza.

Before it did, the singer shared why tonight’s show had to go on for her.

Brazil …. I’ve had a really emotionally and physically stressful last few days. After having altitude sickness, my plane was struck by lightening & the first person I spoke to after the flight has now passed away… when I got to where I was going I had bronchitis!
I always feel better when I am honest. To be real I just want tonight’s show to be PERFECT for you… but I know none of you have ever loved me for being perfect … it’s actually been the opposite. You’ve loved me thru all of my past struggles and I know you’ll support me now. 🖤
My mind wants to run…. But my heart and soul WOULD NEVER leave Brazil without giving you the best show possible. It isn’t aligned with my values to not stick to my word. I promised you a SHOW & there will be one! There is so much to celebrate and be excited about…
I am just feeling heart broken & “human” today…. But I am putting on my super hero suit and going to be strong not only for YOU but for ME! I want to live my truth AND MY MESSAGE! Never give up!
Tonights show is in honor of my friend Taylor Hawkins. The most bad ass dude I know who would want me to shine and sing LOUD for the love of rock n roll! I’ve got this with a little help from my friend TH above & all of you. Let’s do it . 🦅🖤🤘🏻

Hopefully, Cyrus will get to come back with an uneventful flight to States and get some rest. She needs it after this horrible week.

Lin-Manuel Miranda will miss the Oscars
March 26th, 2022 under Lin-Manuel Miranda, Oscars. [ Comments: none ]

Lin-Manuel Miranda could become the latest member of the EGOT club tomorrow. However, he won’t be able to accept his Oscar in person if he were to win.

“Made it to Hollywood…” the Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner wrote. “This weekend, my wife tested ➕ for COVID. She’s doing fine. Kids & I have tested ➖, but out of caution, I won’t be going to the Oscars tomorrow night. Cheering for my TickTickBoom & Encanto families w my own family, alongside all of you, ALL of you.”

I hope he wins, and they let him Zoom in his acceptance speech. Manuel deserves that, especially since they screwed him over for not nominating him for Best Director for Tick Tick Boom. He deserved to win for the work he did with the musical.

RIP Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins
March 26th, 2022 under Foo Fighters, Obits. [ Comments: 1 ]

The Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away yesterday at the age of 50. The band wrote, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Hawkins left Alanis Morissette’s touring group and joined the Foo Fighters in 1997 after getting a phone call from Dave Grohl. Grohl asked him if he knew of any drummers who would want the job, and Hawkins said he did. The rest is Rock’n’Roll history at its finest.

In 2006, he released a solo album as Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders. Along with his own work, he worked with Slash, The Beach Boys, Queen’s Brian May, Ozzy Osbourne, and so many other legends. Not only did he play with legends, but he also played the legend Iggy Pop in CGBG.

I saw him open for The Police with the Foo Fighters, so I was surprised to learn he was in a Police cover band called The Cops. I am sure over the next several weeks; we are going to learn more and more interesting things about him. And I am all for it.

Hawkins is survived by his wife Alison and their three children, Oliver, Annabelle, and Everleigh. My heart goes out to all of them through this difficult time.

The rumors are true, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls is everything and more
March 26th, 2022 under Lizzo, Prime Video. [ Comments: 1 ]

Lizzo needs some dancers for her tour, so she teamed up with Prime Video to find them. Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls is the search for the next big things! And I am not talking about their weight.

The 8-episode first season starts out where we get to meet these future Lizzo dancers, and we find out why they want to dance for one of the greatest singers of this generation. Each one of them has been discriminated against because of their size, but they can move better than skinnier women.

By the end of the episode, we will find out which of the 13 will move on to her top 10. It is during this first elimination that we learn Lizzo doesn’t play by the competition series playbook. Her eliminations are unlike any we have ever seen, and she will keep us on our toes because of it.

Now that we know who is going to move on, it is time for their first competition. The contestants will have to dance to a marching band. Through this challenge, we will get to see how well they learn choreography and how much stamina they have. That is because if they get the job, they will have to dance for 90 minutes every night for several nights a week.

This elimination shows what a huge heart Lizzo has as she talks to the 10 remaining dancers. As each episode goes on, they will confront their pasts and break on through them. They will learn about self-confidence and be proud of who they are in the skin that they are in. They will be challenged mentally and physically and come out better for it.

At the end of the day, we will find out who will dance at Bonaroo with Lizzo. And at the end of that performance, we find out who will get to go on tour with her.

All I can tell you is to expect the unexpected because nothing goes as other reality shows go. Because of that, I love every minute.

Think of it as America’s Top Model, but with heart. Lizzo is the anti-Tyra Banks. She supports all of her contestants and encourages them at every step of the game. Even the eliminations are positive, and they understand why they were eliminated. And they know it won’t be the last time we see them.

We need more reality hosts like Lizzo and more shows like Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

So stream it now because you will enjoy every second of it! And when was the last time you said that about a competition series?
