Before Matt LeBlanc was swearing on Episodes, he was being sworn in for a PSA about the Constitution. He looks the same now as he did when he was 18 in that 1985 PSA.

Listen to him tell Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show how doing that job cost him $500.

I Am the Night is suspenseful mystery with an exciting pay off
January 28th, 2019 under Chris Pine, TNT/TBS/TCM. [ Comments: none ]

I Am the Night is a subplot of a story we thought we already knew. Tonight at 9p on TNT, watch the tale be told in a miniseries that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first minute until the last one.

There have been several scandals throughout the decades, and one of the first ones was the murder of actress Elizabeth Short aka the Black Dahlia. To this day it is unsolved, and some believe that one of the biggest doctors of that time is the killer and the gynecologist was also of performing abortions which were illegal in 1947. He was very rich and had the police in his pocket. That is why he was able to get away with murder.

Jay Singletary (Chris Pine) was a newspaper reporter, who covered Dr. George Hodel’s (Jefferson Mays) trial. The doctor was accused of sexually abusing his teenage daughter, Tamar, but no one believed her. Shortly afterward the trial she died. Not before having a daughter that she gave to an African-American woman because the baby’s father was black.

Jimmy Lee (Golden Brooks) raised that girl as her own as an African-American even though she looks white. Back in the mid-’60s, America was still very segregated and Fauna (India Eisley) is pretty much hated by everyone for being black and looking white.

Fauna is your normal teenager who is constantly fighting with her mom. She decides she has had enough and wants to meet her real mom. Therefore, she runs away to LA to find out more about Tamar. She finds out that not only is her mom dead, but no wants to talk about her either.

Jay finds out about her and he thinks she will be the answer to everything about her grandfather he wants to know. Therefore, he seeks her out. The two join forces to find out more about her mom. Each answer brings them closer to finding out the truth. As someone once said, “You can’t handle the truth.” Can they when they finally are faced with it?

It is a shocking ending to the real-life story of a girl, who was lied to her entire life, only to learn the truth is something she did not want to know. It is a good vs evil story and both sides will be winners and losers in this captivating 6-part limited series.

I did not know that the actress playing Fauna is the same one who was the little sister on The Secret Life of an American Teenager until after I watched the finale. She was good on that show and she will blow you away on this one. I will be shocked if she is not nominated for the big award for her role. I expect the same for Pine, who plays a drunk newsman who can’t stop fighting with everyone who stands in his way. He made his acting debut before he was even born and it shows that he was born to do this.

Then there is Patty Jenkins, who knows how to turn a real-life into making it something you want to know more about without Googling to find out what happens next. Not many directors can do what she does and do it so well.

The limited series has some slow moments, but it all preparing you for a final episode that is a real nail-biter. It is cold outside, so no one wants to be in it. Stay inside and watch a thriller so hot, you will not to put the heat on in your house.

David Alan Grier thought no one would watch Seinfeld and Ace Ventura
January 28th, 2019 under David Alan Grier, Howard Stern. [ Comments: none ]

Many actors have turned down roles they have regretted. Others have auditioned for parts for things they never thought would see the light of day and they became huge hits. David Alan Grier has experienced both.

Back when he was working on In Living Color, Jim Carrey asked him to co-star in his little movie called Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and he turned it down. A short time later, he went to the premiere and watch the comedy next to his friend. Afterward, DAG thought no one is going to see this because it was just too crazy. Even Chris Rock agreed with him. As we know, both of them were way off.

That was not the only time he was way off. Grier told Howard Stern today, that he also auditioned for Seinfeld. During the tryout, he “thought this show is going to suck.” Thus, he did not care if he got the role of George Costanza that eventually went to Jason Alexander.

Once again he was wrong. One role he was right not to say no to was The Carmichael Show. One of the greatest shows ever to grace our televisions.

Imagine how different Grier’s career would have been if he did not turn down or laugh off all of these roles. Considering none of the stars of those projects did Dancing with the Stars, I think we have our answer.

BTW I wonder how he felt when he auditioned for his current show The Cool Kids. Which I like even though it had a really bad pilot.

Taye Diggs did not want to do RENT Live
January 28th, 2019 under RENT. [ Comments: none ]

Last night, the original cast of RENT joined the one-night-only ones on Fox’s RENT Live; but there was almost one holdout. After the show, Taye Diggs sang a song to the tune of Seasons of Love about it and he said he did not want to do it because he thought it would be cheesy. Instead, it turned out that he had a really good time with his old a$$ friends and actors that are old enough to be his kids.

Talking about the youngins, on Saturday night, Brennin Hunt broke his foot during the dress rehearsal and was only able to do the final song live. Before he came out for the finale, Tinashe wheeled him out in front of the crowd. You can tell by the applauds, they loved him. Which they should because that was no easy feet, I mean feat, to do a day after you break your tootsie. When I fractured mine, I was in bed downing pain pills for days. There was no way you could get me to do my big break after a big break. Thus, my shoe is off to him. I just have a problem with the person who told him to break a leg before the rehearsal. What were they thinking?

This Is Us’ Mackenzie Hancsicsak is a really good Girl Scout
January 28th, 2019 under This Is Us. [ Comments: none ]

Mackenzie Hancsicsak not only plays pre-teen Kate Pearson on This Is Us she is also a girl scout in real life. As you know, it is Girl Scout Cookie season, so that means she has a lot of boxes to sell. What better way to do it, then to bring them to the SAG Awards and get rid of them there. The actress put out a tweet during the show letting the other actors know what she is doing and hopefully they bit.

Sadly, we do not know if they did. Although, the thespians have a month until the next awards show, so now is the perfect time to have a cheat day.

BTW this is the second best place to sell the Thin Mints. The first, is of course, in front of a medical marijuana dispensary. Unfortunately, all of the good ones are taken. It is all Mary and Janes dealing Somoas and Mary Jane on the streets of California these days.
