The Goldbergs drives their way into our hearts tonight!
November 5th, 2013 under The Goldbergs. [ Comments: 1 ]

Every Tuesday night I call my dad on the East Coast and I ask him how was The Goldbergs? Every week he tells me that the mom (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is so bad. Bad as in the way she tortures her poor children in the name of love. Well tonight at 9p on ABC, you will be so happy she is not your mom!
Barry (Troy Gentile) finally gets his license and before he even takes the car out for a ride, his mother goes over the rules of driving with him. She tells him where he can go and where he can’t, but the one rule he must follow is that he has to call her when he gets. Since this is ’80something, people don’t have cells phones readily available to them like we do today. So when he gets to his destination, he doesn’t call his mom. If you have been watching the show since week one, you know where this going to go. If you haven’t, she totally embarrasses him.
When he gets home, his older sister, Erica (Hayley Orrantia), gets to him before their mom does and explains to him how to get around her rules. So now that he knows how to beat his mom, both kids plan to drive to the party in the woods. When Barry gets there, he asks his sister where there’s a phone so he can call home. She reminds him where the party is and now he has to go looking in the woods to find a phone. Pay phones were widely available back in the ’80something, but that doesn’t mean that you could find an operational one in the woods. So will he find one before his mom sends the troops out to find her son?
And Barry isn’t the only person she wants to put a ball a chain on, she also bought Pops (George Segal) a present. That gift is a Life Alert button and he doesn’t want to wear it. Something he might reconsider when he’s fallen and he can’t get up! Yes, the show goes there and it will have you laughing so hard that you will have fallen and can’t get up.
Now I don’t want to forget about the other guys on the show. Murray (Jeff Garlin) wants to use the VCR (it was the thing we used to record shows on television before Tivos/DVRs) to record the Phillies’ World Series game, but he can’t figure out how to do it. Therefore, Adam (Sean Giambrone) tries to teach him, but really the youngest Goldberg is just messing with his dad. It is a fun family moment that we have all had. It’s fun to know something our parents don’t and then to mess with them when we try to teach them the correct way to do it.
It is moments like that, that makes, the recently picked up for a full season, The Goldbergs, my favorite new show of the season. The family scenarios are timeless just like the ‘80s are to the sitcom. Everyone can say that they have experienced something from each episode in their lives when they were growing up. Thus when you get to experience them all over again on an endearing show like this one, you find yourself appreciating those fun memories all over again or having a whole new appreciation for them for the first time.
So tune in to The Goldbergs tonight and every Tuesday at 9p for a show that is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face every week as it touches your heart.

The things Jimmy Kimmel did to share a cover with Oprah Winfrey!
November 5th, 2013 under Jimmy Kimmel, Oprah Winfrey. [ Comments: none ]

For years Jimmy Kimmel made fun of Oprah Winfrey on his ABC late night show, but then she appeared on JKL for one of his Oscar specials and the two of them became fast friends. So much so, she sort of let him share the cover of O magazine with her. I say sort of because you have to unfold it to get to him. But once you do, you can see how hard he worked to get the honor that very few people get to have. So who is making fun of who now?
I guess we can say that one of Oprah’s Favorite Things is to show people like him who is boss? She is and don’t anybody forget it!
BTW I feel bad for David Letterman who should’ve gotten a cover with her before Kimmel. I mean how awesome would it be to see Oprah, Letterman and, throw in, Uma Thurman on the cover of O! Oprah, Uma, Dave!

Honey Boo Boo and her family left Steve Harvey speechless!
November 5th, 2013 under DIscovery Networks/Discovery+, Honey Boo Boo, Steve Harvey. [ Comments: none ]

Honey Boo Boo and her whole family are going to take the Cake Boss family this Monday on the Family Feud and you are not going to want to miss this epic episode. It was such a stand out show that it really left an impression on Steve Harvey. Recently I was on a conference call with the host and he told us what it was like to have them on the popular game show. When asked what his favorite moment of the new season was, he said “I can’t say that it’s one of my favorite moments, but I’ll say one of my most alarming moments of the new coming season was we did one celebrity show with Honey Boo Boo’s family on there, and God have mercy.” Then he added, “No, I just did not know. I did not know that there were people really like that. I didn’t know. I didn’t know. I hadn’t met any, especially on TV, so Honey Boo Boo’s family was alarming.”
They really got to him because he shared with us, “I mean it had me off balance the whole day, because I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know. Very, very rarely am I speechless, but they had me couple of times going Wow. Wow, man. These people right here, they’re different. They are truly, truly different.” So it must be one of the most amazing episodes of the game show’s decades long run if it left him speechless because nothing ever silences him. He always has a witty comeback, but it looks like he finally met the 6 people who left him dumbfounded.
So to see the one of kind episode, check your local listings to see when Family Feud airs in your city on Monday.

Emo Weird Al!
November 5th, 2013 under Weird Al Yankovic. [ Comments: none ]

Long before there were Emo rockers, there was Emo Philips. The comedian starred in a little movie called UHF back in 1989 and nearly 15 years later he dressed as his co-star Weird Al Yankovic for Halloween. Well it wouldn’t be fair for him to channel the schlock rocker without someone doing him. It took a Criminal Mind to take on that task and that person was Matthew Gray Gubler.
Seeing the two of them together like that makes me want to find a VHS copy of UHF and watch that movie again.

Chris Pratt stripped at his friend’s grandmother’s birthday party!
November 5th, 2013 under Chris Pratt. [ Comments: none ]

Back when Chris Pratt was a teenager, he used to do gigs as a stripper. He told Buzzfeed, “I was always a very much naked person. I loved to always get naked. I was very free, so I thought, I may as well get paid,” So for $40 bucks the 18 year old took it all off for a Bachelorette party and for his friend’s grandmother’s birthday. While he was good at doing parties, he told the website that he auditioned for a job at a strip club, but he didn’t get it because he can’t dance. Who knew that was requirement to get a job as stripper? I never pay attention to their dancing, do you?
BTW I think if he decides to be a stripper today, he should go by the name Everwood. Who’s with me?
