Veteran rocker Meat Loaf has resolved a dispute with songwriter Jim Steinman over trademark rights to "Bat Out of Hell," dropping a multimillion-dollar lawsuit over the title of the best-selling 1977 album. "It resolved itself very quickly because neither one of us wanted to argue," Meat Loaf told Reuters in an interview on Monday at an event to promote "Bat out of Hell III: The Monster is Loose," set for release on October 31."There’s a mutual love and respect there," he said."We’re not going to have a knock-down brawl. We just have too much history," Meat Loaf said, speaking fondly of the man who produced the original album that shot the portly Texan to stardom after his breakout appearance in the cult film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Mel Gibson suicidal before the arrest? |
July 31st, 2006 under Mel Gibson. [ Comments: none ]

I’m told by a source intimate with his situation tonight that Mel Gibson "was really on the verge of suicide because he felt he was helpless to alcohol and didn’t know what to do about it. That’s why he was driving around 90 miles an hour. This was a death wish. If that cop hadn’t stopped him, this guy was going to be wrapped around a pole. This is such a bigger issue than ‘Will he work again?’ This is about his not wanting to live anymore. I’ve seen what he’s gone through and what he’s going through. You have to understand the disease of alcoholism. He was back in it. There’s no doubt in my mind he was trying to kill himself that night." As for his anti-Semitic slurs during his DUI arrest, I’m told that Gibson doesn’t remember saying them. "Why? He had alcoholic blackout syndrome. I don’t know a lot about it. I’ve not had a lot of experience with it. He has some recollection of parts of the evenings. But he’s not denying he said those things, and if anything he’s owning up to it. But nobody could verify it. Not even he or his lawyers have seen the police report yet." The insider called Gibson’s situation "tragic. It’s not about what people are focusing on, understand that. ‘This is Mel Gibson. He can do whatever he wants. He has all the money in world. He has a wonderful family. He has a wonderful wife.’ They’re not thinking about the real issue here: alcoholism. Nobody is talking about his alcoholism."

Yeah, this is just a tactic for us to feel bad for him. Never heard any other drunk celeb say anti-semitic slurs when they were arrested or overly intoxicated, have you? Next sympathy card because I am still not playing this one.

USA Network has ordered three additional episodes of "Psych," its freshman comedy drama about an amateur sleuth who tricks the police into believing he’s a psychic. The pickup, which brings the total order for the show to 15 episodes, including the 90-minute pilot, bodes well for the future of the series. It stars James Roday as the sleuth and and Dule Hill as his best friend. "Psych," whose premiere drew 6.1 million viewers, a record for a cable series debut this year, is expected to be picked up for a second season soon.Since its July 7 premiere, "Psych" has retained most of its "Monk" lead-in. Season-to-date, "Psych" has averaged 3.9 million viewers compared with "Monk’s" 4 million. Both shows are expected to follow the split-season pattern of "Monk," running through month’s end and then returning with fresh episodes in January.

Who needs a ring? Though they called off their engagement last month, singer Alanis Morissette and her ex-fiancé, actor Ryan Reynolds, looked every bit the happy couple on July 27 as they walked hand in hand on their way to dinner at Kay ‘n Dave’s Cantina in Brentwood.
