Back in 1989, when Back to the Future came out, they predicted that the Chicago Cubs would sweep the World Series. Something that seemed really far fetched back then. Well, we are a week away from the Back to the Future 2 date and it looks like the Cubs could go to the World Series.
Not only did they predict that about the Cubs, they also predicted Miami would get a baseball team. Something that didn’t become official until 2 years after the film came out.
So did they hit it out of the park with their predictions? We won’t know until after October 21st because the World Series doesn’t start until October 27th. So we will have to wait and see.
As a Mets fan, I am really hoping they got it wrong.

We are 16 days away from the date that was featured in Back to the Future 2 and Pepsi is releasing a treat just for the occasion. On September 21st, you can get Pepsi Perfect. The limited edition 16.9-ounce bottle will sell for $20.15, which is $29.85 cheaper than the one that was featured in the 1989 movie. If you think about it that way, then that is quite the bargain.
How limited is Pepsi Perfect? Only 6,500 bottles will be sold. To make matters worse, you won’t be able to get on your hoverboard (since they don’t exist) and skate on over to the local store to get it. That’s because the only way to get it is to surf the information highway. Marty McFly didn’t see that coming when he rode his DeLorean into our time. Did he?
So what will you be doing on Back to the Future 2 Day?
Believe it or not, it has been 30 years since Back to the Future came out. To honor the milestone, Marty McFly (Michael J Fox), his mom Lorraine (Lea Thompson) and Doc (Christopher Lloyd) reunited for the London Film Festival and Comic Con. Even though the movie came out in 1985, they haven’t aged a day since. Maybe it is time they do Back to the Future 4?
2015 is a big year for the trilogy for another reason because that’s the year that Back to the Future 2 took place. Recently, I spoke with Lea Thompson about that and I asked her what it is like living in this version of 2015 after living in the other one. She told me, “I think when we were doing Back to the Future 2, I think we all knew it was a kitchy version of the future. It was very dark and kitchy.” Then she added, “I don’t think any of us actually thought that 2015 would look like that. When you’re doing a movie about the future, you kind of have to put flying cars in even though it will never happen.” She explained, “Nobody wants to get in a flying car, I just don’t want to. It’s too dangerous.” She concluded the question with, “It’s interesting because in the 2015 version of Back to the Future, I was like 85 or something. Getting old is weird anyway, but to have it be marked by that is kind of an interesting experience for me.”
Her character didn’t look 85 in the movie and she doesn’t look 54 today. She still looks like the teen she played in the film that changed her life and many fans’ lives all over the world.
Thompson has been working nonstop since the Back to the Future franchise and on August 24th you will be able to see her in Switched at Birth‘s midseason premiere on ABC Family.
Before Michael J Fox had his first time on Family Ties, he got his first kiss thanks to McDonald’s. How awwwdorable is the 18 year old in that 1980 commercial?
The big talk when the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2015, is where are the Hooverboards they promised us in Back to the Future 2? But that was not the only thing that didn’t happen from the ’80s movie that takes place 9 months from now. Lea Thompson shared a photo of Elizabeth Shue and her from the movie and said, “What we don’t look like in 2015.” That is so true! Both actresses look almost the same as they did when they made the film 1989. Something you can see when you watch Lorraine McFly on Switched at Birth and Jennifer Parker McFly on CSI every week.
Granted, if you think about it Thompson’s character is almost 25 years older than the actress, so let’s see how she looks in a quarter of a century. When it comes to Shue, she is a little older than the character she played, so she looks better than the makeup artists thought she would look. Either way, they still look fabulous!
