Today is 6/7! While I was celebrating the day, moving my hands up to celebrate 6-7, others were celebrating something else.
On June 7, 1985, a little movie came out called Goonies, and people love it as much now as they did 41 years ago. Therefore, they were hoping to find a pirate ship, like it was 1985.
No one more than Kerri Green, Ke Huy Quan, and Joel Cohen. The trio reunited and recreated a photo they took when that movie was a baby, just like they were back then. The Goonies R good enough now, as they were good enough then.
Not only do The Goonies never die, but neither does their friendship.
Ever since we got to know Ke Huy Quan in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984, we have thought he is so cute. And he has just gotten cuter and cuter over the years.
Earlier this week, the Oscar winner continued to be as cute as possible. How? He posed with Shaquille O’Neal. At 5’4″, he looks like that little boy who went on an adventure with Harrison Ford standing next to the 7″1″ NBA star.
It is not only because of the height difference, but it is also because he is smiling like a little boy who is meeting his idol. And Shaq looks just as happy. I mean, who doesn’t love Quan?
Long before Ke Huy Quan was an Oscar winner, he got his start in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. That role will follow him around forever, and that is not a bad thing. Well, most of the time.
Why? Recently, when he was promoting Zootopia 2 with Ginnifer Goodwin at Disneyland, Disney Parks asked him if he wanted to ride Indiana Jones Adventure. Short Round did not take long to say yes.
However, as much as he enjoyed the ride down (literal) memory lane, there were some moments that were a little scary for him and the actress. But all in all, he had a lot of revisiting his past.
BTW Imagine being the tourists on that ride with him. It made their trip so much more memorable. A day, neither they nor Quan will soon forget.
Drew Barrymore and Ke Huy Quan have been friends for over 40 years, thanks to Steven Spielberg. So, you would think they would know everything they need to know about the other one. And you would be wrong.
Yesterday, the Oscar winner was on The Drew Barrymore Show, and he shared a secret with her. Back when they were kids, he had a crush on her. And she didn’t know it.
Then, the daytime talk show host admitted she had a crush on him. And he didn’t know it.
So, for all of this time, they both liked each other when they were young, but they never got the chance to see if their sweet affection could have been something more.
And it never will be because Love Hurts due to the actor being happily married to his wife, Echo, for 22 years and counting.
Therefore, we are left to wonder what could have been. After watching this interview, I think it would been as sweet as the chocolate banana Drew had all over her face when she realized she liked him.
Can we all admit that Spielberg knew how to pick the best child actors in the ’80s? Seriously, these two are just as awwwwdorable now as they were then.
Goonies never say die, and neither does their friendship.
Yesterday, Ke Huy Quan was honored by Grauman’s Chinese Theatre who asked him to leave his hands and feet in cement outside the movie theater. The Oscar winner wasn’t alone at the ceremony; he had some friends standing by his side. His friends of 40 years: Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Corey Feldman, and screenwriter Chris Columbus.
Will they finally be able to cement a sequel to their 1985 film? Who knows? But they would do it in a heartbeat if it was right.
What is also right is Quan’s movie Love Hurts, which comes out this Friday.
