Gloria Estefan did the Conga with COVID-19
December 1st, 2020 under Coronavirus, Gloria Estefan. [ Comments: none ]

Gloria Estefan revealed today that she had COVID-19 in early November. Thankfully, her symptoms were mild. She only suffered from loss of taste and smell, along with a little cough.

The singer thinks that her symptoms were mild because she has been taking vitamins like D3, C, B12, melatonin, and a multivitamin. She also says Gatorade 0 helps with the dehydration that comes with the illness.

How does she think she got it? Estefan says she went out to eat on October 30th, and a fan with no mask stopped to talk to her. Even though she held her breath, the coronavirus still found a way into her system. Her immunologist friend told her that he thinks because Estefan wears a mask all the time, it helped her to get a lesser amount of the virus in her system. Therefore, wear a mask!

Estefan says she is feeling better now and has tested negative twice since she tested positive. Miami can breathe a sigh of relief, your most famous child is still OK.

Gloria Estefan reworks Get On Your Feet to Put On Your Mask

Rick Springfield reworked Human Touch for Coronavirus, and now Gloria Estefan did the same for her hit Get On Your Feet. She says if you are going to get on your feet and go outside, then you need to wear a mask. Therefore, she wants you to Put On You Mask, and she is reminding you to do it with this informative song.

Since Gloria and I went to one of the top pre-medical colleges (University of Miami) in the country, we know what we are talking about. So cover your mouths and protect others as you want them to protect you. The whole world is in this together.

Gloria Estefan goes from singing One Day at a Time to guesting on the sitcom
June 25th, 2018 under Adam Sandler, Gloria Estefan, Netflix, Rita Moreno. [ Comments: none ]

In case you did not know this, Gloria Estefan sings the reworked theme song for Netflix’s remake of One Day at a Time. But for the third season, they are changing things up. The Cuban born singer announced today that she will guest star on the fan favorite sitcom about a Cuban-American family living in Los Angeles.

The Conga singer will be playing Mirtha, Lydia’s (Rita Moreno) baby sister and arch-nemesis. I can totally see that because her and her TV niece Justina Machado have a lot of similarities between them. Plus, I can see Estefan having a lot of fun with this role.

This was not the only big casting announcement made by Netflix today. They also revealed that Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler will be working together on their 2019 feature Murder Mystery. The two worked together in 2011’s Just Go With It,

The movie is being described as, “When a NYC cop (Sandler) finally takes his wife (Aniston) on a long promised European trip, a chance meeting on the flight with a mysterious man (Luke Evans) gets them invited to an intimate family gathering on the Super Yacht of elderly billionaire Malcolm Quince. When Quince is murdered, they become the prime suspects in a modern day whodunit.”

I have a feeling this will be the first of many endeavors between Netflix and Aniston.

The Next is the next best thing!
August 16th, 2012 under Gloria Estefan, The CW. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 9p on The CW The Next is going to shake up how singing competitions are done and you are going to want the others to follow suit.
For the next six weeks Gloria Estefan, Joe Jonas, John Rich and Nelly are going to do what no television mentor/judge has ever done. They are going to go to the contestants’ houses and spend 72 hours with them to prepare them a perform in front of the live audience. But these singers will not only be mentoring them, they are going to experience those contestants’ lives and they will have to do things they don’t normally do like mow the lawn and babysit. You are not going to hear what these top-selling artists did when they spent those 3 days with the contestants, you are actually going to see it. Seriously how much fun is that.
But it isn’t only about the mentors, it is also about the singers vying for a record contract. For the next six weeks you will see a clip reel of those crucial 3 days and then we will hear their mentee sing a song. After all four of them have wowed us (and they will), it is up to the studio audience to vote who moves on to the live shows. Here’s an inside tip, the person moving ahead will not know who they are until their episode airs. I can’t wait to see their reactions when their show airs.
Now back to the mentors for a second, yesterday I was a press day with all of them and they each said that agreed to do this show because they are not judging the contestants but they are mentoring them. They are there for support and not to tear them down like other singing competitions. I have been waiting for forever for one of these reality shows to do that because it is not about the established stars, it is about the future ones!
As I mentioned The Next is different than the other shows because the mentors are going to have to get their hands dirty, so I had to find out from them what was the most interesting thing they exposed to when they were at their mentees’ house.
Nelly – “I made plantains. That was dope. One of my first times tasting them. Mine tasted just like someone who knew what they were doing would taste. Maybe I got a career in plantains.” So I followed up with, “if this music thing doesn’t work out?” He said, “Nelly’s Plantains. We can those up for real.” I’m in, you?
Gloris Estefan – “I did fulfill my dream of getting on a riding motor. I used to cut the lawn with my grandfather when I was about 12 or 13. I always wanted one of those. So got to do that. I got to cut grass, not that it needed it. She just wanted to get me on that damn mower. But it was fun, I had a good time doing that.”
Joe Jonas – “Babysitting like 15 kids for my first episode was overwhelming. These kids were crazy. The place was beautiful when I walked in, when I left I’m sure the production team got a call because those kids ruined this place. It was like chocolate syrup on couches. It was nuts. I’m sitting her like, oh, it’s not too fun.”
John Rich – “Riding a horse through Harlem to meet my contestant. I am galloping up a sidewalk in Harlem towards Malcolm X Blvd. I take a hard right on this horse and there’s my artist past the Apollo Theater. He stops and look at me. I’m like, ‘Hey, how are you doing? I’m John Rich.’ I go to shake his hand. He’s like what is going on. I climb off of the horse and I’m like “we got 72 hours before you are going to have the performance of your life, son. Show me somewhere where I can park this horse, we got to get to work.'”
And there is one last little tidbit I will let you in about the show, starting next week Gloria, Joe, John and Nelly are going to sing duets. I was told that the Nelly/John Rich duet to Lenny Kravitz’s American Woman is “f*cking incredible.”

Gloris Estefan is finally retiring from the touring according to WENN!!!

She says, “It is an end to something that began many years ago, in 1975, and it is a dream to be able to do it in Latin America.
“These will be the last concerts I do, after I want to focus on my daughter, who is going to high school, and continue working in other areas.”
She adds, “We have eight restaurants, three hotels; I am working on a third book and on films.”

BTW am I the only one who didn’t know she was still touring in the first place?
