Matt C noticed in the promo for the season finale of the anthology series Law & Order: True Crime, NBC referred to it as the series finale twice. Since it was supposed to be an anthology series, they could be referring to the case. But then again, the show did OK after This Is Us, and fans of Chicago Fire and Chicago Med (like me) are pissed the former has a new night and we had to wait for the latter.
But here is the biggest problem, The Menendez Murders are not worth 8 hours of television. They are barely worth the 2 hour telemovies they have gotten in the past. It is not NBC’s fault, it did OK when the real case was airing. But it was no OJ. There are not many cases that can keep a viewers interest for 8 hours these days.
It was nice try, trying to copy Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story. But even he is going to hit the wall big time with the Versace murder. That story is barely even a telemovie.

NBC’s night starts off at 8p with Superstore and it will steal your attention. Jonah (Ben Feldman) walks in on a man robbing the store’s backroom of money and does nothing about it. As the crook is running away, Dina (Lauren Ash) tramples him and he is arrested. She thinks she did a good thing until the Jeff (Michael Bunin) the district managers says she did the wrong thing and Jonah did the right one. That causes tension between the two. Even more so, when Jonah tells Jeff that Dina has been bullying him. Jeff writes up Dina and she challenges Jonah to fight. Who wins? Let’s just say one person comes up on top!

Then at 8:30p, it is unethical how good The Good Place is tonight. Chidi (William Jackson Harper) is teaching Michael (Ted Danson) ethics. Something that is very hard to do when the student is an evil demon. Feels like it will never happen until Michael comes up with a solution. He decides that they should live the ethical problems that Chidi has been giving him to study. Like what happens if are driving a runaway trolley and you can switch tracks, would you stay on the track with 5 workers or the one with only one person on it. What if you knew that one person? And so on. Therefore, Michael puts Chidi and Eleanor (Kristen Bell) on the track in that trolley and now that have to make that decision as we do the unethical thing and laugh until we hurt. They go through several scenarios each funnier than the last. However, is it enough to teach Michael to be ethical?
Talking about lessons, Janet (D’Arcy Carden) is learning how to be a therapist so that she can help Jason (Manny Jacinto) and Tahini’s (Jameela Jamil) relationship work. Even though it is working, there are consequences for Janet. Huge problems.
Make sure to record this episode because you are going to want to rewatch it several times.

Talking about an episode you will want to keep on your DVR, you are not going to want to erase tonight’s Will & Grace at 9p. There is a knock on Will’s (Eric McCormack) door and it will forever change Jack’s (Sean Hayes) life. A young boy tells Jack, he is Elliott’s (Michael Angarano) son. In case you forgot, Elliott is Jack’s son, so that means Jack is a grandfather. Let that sink in! That is all I am going to tell you about the episode because I want you to enjoy it as much as I did. Because after all, Jack is a grandfather!

NBC closes the night with Great News at 9:30p and Chicago Fire at 10p. On the latter Gabby (Monica Raymund) is out picking up a gift for her husband, when she notices that construction above an underground parking lot is causing it to collapse. She runs inside to warn the people what is about to happen, and then it happens. The lot collapses on top of her and several other people. Now they are in a race against time to get out of there if they want to get out alive. Only problem is is there no way out, no one can hear them and carbon monoxide is starting to pollute the limited air they have. Will they be able to get out of there alive or will they be crushed by all of the concrete above them? You don’t want to miss a single second of this thrilling episode that feels like a throwback to the disaster movies from the ’70s.
After a few years off, Must See TV is back on NBC starting tonight at 8p with Superstore. Since they did not send out a screener, I cannot review how the devastating tornado effected Cloud 9 and all of the store’s employee’s lives. I will be watching it live and so should you!

Then at 8:30p, Michael (Ted Danson) gets to reintroduce Elanor (Kristen Bell) to The Good Place all over again and again and again and again. That is because she keeps figuring out that they are really in the bad place. Well one time, someone else does. But you will have to watch to see who. Anyways, will the Bad Place Four finally figure out a way to get Michael to stop erasing their memories or will they be living Groundhog’s Day in Hell over and over and over again? You have to see tonight’s twist to find out because there is always a twist!

Then at 9p, the most anticipated show of the Fall season makes its debut or should I say redebut? That is because Will & Grace is finally back!!!
I did not watch the sitcom the first time around, so I have been binging it on the NBC app for the last week. I love this show and I wish someone would have told me how funny and enjoyable it was back when it aired originally. Since I have a new love for the beloved show, that means I am going to be very critical of the revival.
And I LOVE it more that Will (Eric McCormack) & Grace (Debra Messing) & Jack (Sean Hayes) & Karen (Megan Mullally) love each other. They found a way to make everything old, new again. In fact, like a good wine, it got better with age. The chemistry between these fours is so rare and comes off so naturally on camera. The things the writers give them to, you can tell they love these so much characters so much that they wanted to do them justice and they did. It is a love fest all the way around from them to us and back to them.
Tonight’s series second-time-around premiere starts off, eliminating all of the changes from the series first-time-around finale. Very quickly we find out that Will & Grace are single and childless, Karen is still rich and Jack is still Just Jack!
Once we get that all cleared up, Grace, who is still a designer, gets the job of a lifetime, thanks to one of Karen’s other girl friends. That is decorating the Oval Office. When I heard the show was going to get political, I was nervous. I get so much politics already on social media that I do not want it my scripted television. That is supposed to be my escape from it all. If that is how you feel, then do not worry because the show touches out in a way that will make you laugh and not get pissed off. In fact, of the three episodes that I watched, tonight’s is the only one that touches it. But they do deal with other issues in the next two weeks that proves that are 11 years older than they were when the show ended. Like cancer and dating way younger.
No matter what they do, they make us laugh. So touch bellies with someone you love and then watch Will & Grace with them for a big ole belly laugh!

Then at 9:30p, I have some great news for you about Great News. Tina Fey goes from behind the camera to in front of it. After the news team screws up beyond belief thanks to Katie’s (Briga Heelan) mom, Carol (Andrea Martin), they get a new boss (Fey). She is a tough no nonsense boss, who wants to change things up. Gone is the traditional newscasts and hello to the one full of opinion and talking heads. Portia (Nicole Richie) is OK with the new format, but Chuck (John Michael Higgins) loses it on air. Will Greg (Adam Campbell) be able to get his anchor team back on track? And what is going on with him and Katie? Carol wants to know to and so do you?
Great News might be fake news, but unlike the real news it is even zanier than what the President watches even though he says he does not. And that says a lot.

Then the night closes out with Chicago Fire on its new night, and we find out who survived the warehouse fire. Did Casey (Jesse Spencer) say I love you to Gabby (Monica Raymund) for the last time? Did Mouch (Christian Stolte) survive his heart attack and the fire? Will Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) risk the lives of his other firefighters to rescue the ones still inside the fire? All I will say is have the tissues ready. I wish I can tell you more about this episode, but you do not want to know? You want to see it for yourself on the original Chicago show that’s get better with each passing season. That’s right, the show is still on fire. I guess you can say literally!
American Housewife is back for its second season tonight at 9:30p on its new night and time after Modern Family. What happens in September besides the new Fall TV season, school starts. It is time for the Otto kids to go back to school.
Their oldest Taylor (Meg Donnelly) decided she does not want to go to college. Their middle child Oliver (Daniel DiMaggio) is taking ballet and his teacher is really tough on him. Katie (Katy Mixon) goes to one of his classes and has it out with his teacher. That is not the only person she has it out with, she has it out with all of the moms at Anna-Kat’s school (Julia Butters). Then one of the moms says something to her that make hers reevaluate everything. To make matters worse, her husband (Diedrich Bader) wants to have another kid.
American Housewife got the coveted post-Modern Family slot because it has proven that is the type of show that can go on for many seasons. Tonight’s episode proves it and I cannot wait for the rest of the episodes.
Then at 10p, Designated Survivor is also back for its second season. It has been a year since someone blew up the US Capitol with almost every federal politician in it and Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), the designated survivor, became President of the United States.
He has accomplished a lot and been through even more during those 366 days. Tonight, he has to deal with a plane that has been taken hostage full of people from all over the world including several US citizens. One of them is his friend. To make it even more complicated for him, the man who blew up the Capitol is still on the loose. Can he save everyone before it is too late?
The press has so many questions about the bomber and the press secretary has turned in a Sean Spicer. Because of that Seth Wright (Kal Penn) is not sure he is the right man for the job. Can Emily (Italia Ricci) convince him to say?
Kirkman’s second year in office is proving to be just as thrilling for us to watch as his first.

At 9p but over on CBS, David Boreanaz returns to TV after a whole summer off in SEAL Team. The military drama follows a team of elite Navy Seals who risk not only their physical lives but also their personal ones. Jason Hayes (Boreanaz) leads his team into difficult situations to save the world from danger. That means they leave their families behind and some times that costs them the people they love the most. As the series goes on, you will see how much they give up to protect people they do not know sacrificing the ones they do know.
When it comes to the show, I did not really care for the pilot. Thankfully, CBS sent out a second episode and that one is so much better. What I am trying to say, is do not give up this show just yet because it gets better. I even added it to my Season Pass.

At 8p over on Fox, Empire is back but Lucious’ memory is not. He is still dealing with the after effects of the explosion. He is finally home with his family, but he does not remember his past with them. Which is a good thing for him if you think about it. He has a nurse (Demi Moore), who is looking after him, and she is trying to protect him from the Lyons. Something Cookie (Taraji P Hensen) will fight her hardest to prevent. Cookie want him to be business as usual but he is not ready to do it.
Who will win out? You will have to tune in to find out. Empire got a much needed jolt this season. Therefore, if you gave up on the show, it is time to come back.

At 9p but over on NBC, Law & Order: SVU is back for its 19th season. Fin (Ice-T) went to Cuba to bring back a serial rapist and something fishy happened when he was bringing his suspect back to the States. Now that suspect has hired a lawyer who will do his best to get his client off because of that. If the SVU team cannot get his victim to testify, the rapist will walk free even though his DNA was found at the scenes of the crime.
But that is not only the reason to tune in, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) answers the door and old friend is on the other side of it. He has some shocking news for her, that will set up a huge story arc for her character this season. But that is all I will say. That and there is a reason why this show made it to its 19th season and counting.
The good news is that Brooke Shields is going to join Law & Order: SVU as a recurring character. The bad news is The Hollywood Reporter says she will “shake up Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) world.” What that means we do not know, but the actress says she plays, “I play a very different character from any I have ever played.”
Now I am even more curious what her character will add to the procedural when it returns to NBC on September 27th.
