After the first season of American Idol, someone thought it was a good idea to give Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini the movie From Justin to Kelly. It bombed Therefore for the second season, they opted not to do the same for Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard.
Now 15 years later, Ruben and Clay of them are finally getting a show together. The American Idol winner and runnerup will be doing a Christmas show at the Imperial Theater on Broadway for 3 weeks only starting on December 7th. They describe it as a Christmas Carol family fun pageant spectacular reunion show. What that means, only time will tell.
Do I think it is a good idea? I think it is 15 years too late, but yet I want to go see it. Do you?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA5uaJLd49g Jimmy Kimmel Live did something that the ABC version cannot do and that is stage a reunion with some of the most memorable names from the Fox one. Names like William Hung, Chicken Little Boy, Scotty MacIntyre, Sanjaya Malakar with Crying Girl, Chewbacca Girl and the Pants on the Floor Guy. There were even two American Idols there, Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks.
If you are going to have all of those greats in one place, then what are you going to do with them? Make them sing for their dinner of course and they did. They gave us updates on their lives and some of them are still singing. Not professionally, but they never gave up their dream no matter how hard Simon Cowell tried to destroy them.
How he found them? We can only assume at the worst Karaoke bar in Anaheim. Where else?
When it comes to the ABC version can you name any of the contestants? Even the person who won last night? Did you even know they crowned a new winner yesterday?
The Voice announced who their fall coaches will be and they are..wait for it…Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. Oh wait, they are a given? Well, sitting besides them will be Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson.
That means that if American Idol comes back in the fall on ABC, then their asses will be kicked by The Voice. Well, that and probably whatever else is on against it.
I think the OG American Idol is a great choice, the Oscar winner not so much. Although it is an interesting strategy to have 2 Idols on the NBC singing competition at the same time.
Way back when, when tens of millions of people were watching American Idol, instead of just 10 million, there used to be another host standing next to Ryan Seacrest. That host was Brian Dunkleman. Remember him?
Well today he took to Twitter to give his critique of the ABC version of American Idol. He wrote, “American Idol was better when it was on @FOX. In 2002. Just kidding @ABC – you’re the best network on television!” Then he went on to Tweet that last part to NBC, CBS and Telemundo.
Who can argue with him that Idol was so much better in 2002 when Ryan had frosted tips and someone to play off of with Dunkleman, we didn’t know what to make of Simon Cowell, we loved guessing what mood Paula Abdul was going to be in and Randy Jackson. Those were the good old days when families got together to watch Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini with his Sideshow Bob hair battle it out to be the first American Idol. Little did we know the latter two were going to get a movie that would be unwatchable and Dunkleman would disappear not to be seen for 14 more seasons. Or that we would get 15 seasons of the show that would lose the original three over time and the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler and J-Lo.
If we only knew. In few weeks, ABC will be saying the same thing.
Katharine McPhee was seen working as a waitress, so has the actress hit hard times even though her show Scorpion is still do well on CBS? No hard times in the near future for her because she is making her Broadway debut in the musical Waitress starting on April 10th and here is a preview how she will look in it. Pretty believable, right?
