I don’t know about you, but I have not watched The Voice nor American Idol in years. Therefore, I would not know how different or similar the two shows are these days. Thankfully, I have Twitter to do that for me.
Adam Shapiro was able to point out something that the two shows have in common this season. Not that they are singing competitions. Not that American Idol is represented on both of them. What he noticed is that the finalists for both shows look almost identical. On the ABC show, they had Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe. Meanwhile, on the NBC one, they have Britton Buchanan and Brynn Cartelli.
Therefore, if Cartelli wins tonight like Poppe won last night, then we know both shows are the same and we are right not to watch either. But let’s be honest if we had to choose, we would always choose…The Voice.
UPDATE: The blonde girl one proving that both shows are the same but on different networks.

Back when American Idol was on Fox, the three judges, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, would rip the contestants a new one if they flubbed the lyrics. That was then, now it is a whole new ball game since the show is on ABC with these three judges.
Catie Turner forgot the first few lines to Manic Monday. Instead of starting over starting over she just went on with the song once she remembered the rest of the words. When she was done, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, all told her it was OK and that it has happened to them too. Well, American Idol’s real season 2 winner, Clay Aiken, did not like how nice they were to her and wrote, “So when i was on @AmericanIdol I slightly flubbed some lyrics. Nowhere near this noticable.. https://youtu.be/tt1_QVQ8KMQ and even Paula gave me hell. This girl gets a therapy session?! 🙄 Really? Seriously??! What happened to the show we loved? #MakeIdolGreatAgain.”
He is 100% right. How many of us have been to a concert and the singer forgot the lyrics? How pissed off were you? I still remember Sammy Hagar messing up Right Here, Right Now. We pay a lot of money to see them sing, they better know the words to the songs they are singing. Don’t tell them it is OK. I love you Luke, but I will never forget you screwing up the National Anthem. Will you?
I get it she is young, but still, she needs to learn the right way not the wrong way to act as a professional singer. She also has to learn the right way to choose a Prince song and not just one that was sung by another artist. That and she totally messed up The Bangles tune. What was up with her dancing? Like she said it was not her not night. So much so, she was rightfully eliminated.
BTW if this is what American Idol is like now, no wonder it is doing poorly in the ratings. There is nothing positive I can say about it. Can you?
ABC announced today that they picked up American Idol for a second season. Not only that, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Ryan Seacrest will all be back? How many of us thought that Perry would eat the apple and be done with the show? I guess they like paying her $25 million more than she is worth.
Just like the return of the singing competition, who asked for the show to be renewed for another season? Dancing with the Stars does better than Idol in the ratings, so why waste the money on a show that people really don’t care about. Can you name any of the contestants? Remember when they were all household names on Fox? Now, we barely know that show airs on Sundays. I think.
I mean, I guess they had to pick it up to save face. As in, they think would look like a total failure if they didn’t bring it back for another season.
On when does it come back, ABC didn’t say if it would be the fall or the winter. Just that it will be back next season. If they bring it back in the fall, they will be shooting themselves in the foot. But what do I know?

Back in the days when American Idol used to be watchable, I would call my mom or my friends back east to find out who was eliminated. It is one of the things that sucks about living on the West Coast. Except for the Oscars and the Golden Globes, we have to wait three hours to find out what is happening in the world of television.
Not anymore because ABC announced that American Idol will air live at the same time all across the country for three weeks starting this Sunday. That means, if I were watching, then I would be able to watch it with my friends in NYC, Chicago and Denver simultaneously. But since I and most of America are not watching, it will be interesting to see if people in Seattle will give up their Sunday fun day to watch Idol at 5p PDT. I wouldn’t anymore. Will you?
It is an interesting risk that ABC is taking because the singing competition is already doing poorly in the ratings, and this is going to hurt their numbers even more. Maybe, I am wrong, and people will want to tune in to see the Top Ten become one. But I doubt it since they have not been watching as it is.
On Sunday night, American Idol had its worst ratings ever. Then on Monday, Katy Perry did something to get the ratings up. She was laughing so hard, she split her pants open.
Not only did she tell everyone she did it, she showed her a$$ to the audience. Lionel Richie tried to get her to do a Fonz and sit on it, but she kept exposing what she is for doing that.
How desperate is she for attention that she keeps having to pull stunts like this. When she is not exposing her butt, she is being the biggest horndog in the show’s run. She is making Steven Tyler look tame and that is not an easy thing to do.
C’mon Katy, you are on a show with young people that is being watched by younger people. Grow up and show some responsibility for your actions.
Instead of getting the show ratings, it is doing the opposite.
