Back in the ’70s, Atari introduced video games to people’s homes. Then in the ’80s, it was replaced by Intellivision and ColecoVision. However, they were turned into ancient artifacts by Nintendo in the ’90s.
Nintendo thought the market was theirs and only theirs. That was until Sega joined the scene. Once they did, there was a console war between the two. The documentary Console Wars, which is streaming on CBS All Access now, talks all about their battle to become #1.
If you were a kid of the ’90s, then chances are you asked your parents for a Nintendo console. If you already had one, then you wanted the Super Mario games to go with it. There was always a game you needed, and you had to have it. They were making money like it was growing on trees.
Sony in Japan realized this was a growing business, so they decided to get into the game with their own game. They hired Americans to help develop Sega, and come up with a way to compete with Nintendo. They had a lot of different strategies, and one of them was Sonic the Hedgehog.
The fast blue creature was quickly Donkey Konging Mario Bros into second place. How would Nintendo take back their title? How far are they willing to go? They both released Mortal Kombat, and only one of them got in trouble for the violence. What was the difference? Did having 256 colors really make a difference? The mistake Sony made that cost them billions. These are just a few of the things that we find out in CBS All Access’ first full-length documentary.
The doc, who was Official Selection of the 2020 SXSW Film Festival, includes interviews with the people who worked at both companies, file footage, and stories you have to hear to believe. While I am not a video game girl (much to the disappointment of my father), I thouroughly enjoyed it. I learned things about the video game wars that I never knew I wanted to know. The competition between the two is even more intense than Tetris when it speeds up.
Hopefully, the doc’s producers and directors, Jonah Tulis and Blake J. Harris, will give us the sequel about how Xbox and Playstation made both of those games obsolete and fought to become #1 in the new millennium.
Before we knew that Jack Black was funny, he went to Bill Murray to learn how to be funny in Cradle Will Rock. How funny was the 28-year-old dummy in that 1999 movie?
Back in July, there were rumors that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel became parents for the second time. However, the couple never confirmed it. In fact, they still haven’t, even though Lance Bass spilled the milk to Entertaiment Tonight this weekend.
Katie Krause was chatting with the *NSYNC member, and she asked him if the rumors are true. The singer told her, “We have talked several times, and of course, we knew before anyone else did. It’s been a fun celebration, and they’re very, very happy.”
Then Bass said that all of the recent conversations between him and Timberlake have been about the newborn. While Bass confirmed that Silas Timberlake, 5, is a big brother, he did not reveal any other details like the sex of the “cute baby” or its name. He said he if he revealed the latter, Timberlake would kill him.
I wonder what Timberlake will do to him for confirming the baby news? Never reunite with *NSYNC again? Bass also talked about if that could happen during the interview.
Welcome to the new trend of the pandeic, celebrities having babies even though we didn’t know they were pregnant. There was Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, and Billie Lourd, and now Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski.
The latter couple shared the happy news today via INARA. In a statement, they said, “Since the birth of our daughter 3 years ago our commitment to the innocent children that are so brutally affected by conflict and war has been a driving force in our lives.” They said “With the birth of our son the work of INARA and War Child has become our North Star.”
Even though the couple both shared the news on their Instagrams, they did not reveal any more information about their son.
The new parents, who eloped in March 2017, also have a daughter named Nina.
Last week, Will Smith revealed that he put the real mansion that was featured on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on Airbnb. Now, he is giving us, his castmates (minus Alfonso Ribiero and Janet Hubert) and DJ Jazzy Jeff a tour of the inside.
Can you believe in the 30 years since the sitcom premiered, they have never been inside? Shouldn’t it be mandatory that the stars of the shows see the inside of their fake homes while their series is in production? You know, before it is featured on HGTV?
Not so fun fact, the home is actually located in Brentwood and not Bel-Air. Is nothing on television real?
