Bob Newhart was on the couch yesterday with Bob Daily and Marcia Wallace, stars of his hit ’70s sitcom The Bob Newhart Show, as ATAS celebrated his 50 years in show business. I so admire the 80 year old’s contribution to television because he has done some of the best shows that have ever graced the small screen. And I am not just talking about the greatest ending to any television show, you know the one he came up with to conclude Newhart. I recently spoke with Bob Newhart at the TV Land Awards and he told me the classic Newhart ending came about. Such a comedic genius.
BTW 82 year old Bill Daily and 67 year old Marcia Wallace look as good as they did when the show aired over 30 years ago.
Today Ellen DeGeneres is repeating the episode she did with Miss Betty White and since I didn’t see it the first time, I thought I would share the video with you anyways. Anytime the Golden Girl is on TV it is always a joy to watch, but this interview was especially something special! Betty talks about her amazing year from the Snicker’s commercial, to the SAG Awards Lifetime Achievement honor to finally prepping to host Saturday Night Live. Ellen decided to help the TV Legend get ready for her appearance by seeing how long she could keep a straight face while the American Idol judge made goofy faces. Obviously Betty was able to do it and still able to outwit Ellen at the punchline. But it was Ellen who had the final laugh when she had a Chippendale’s dance his way on to Betty White and her reaction was priceless. So I wonder if Ellen should have done that because a shock like that can give an 88 year old woman a heart attack. Heck someone that good looking doing that to me could send my heart in to overdrive and I am not even close to being 88!
Yesterday was only the premiere of America’s Got Talent on NBC and I already know who I want to win, New Directions Choir. The choir is made of former homeless veterans. Even though these guys were homeless, they have won a permanent place in my heart. Their story how they turned their lives around was inspirational enough, but their voices gave me chills. So adding their story to their voices equaled me in tears by the time they were done. I am really hoping they win because they have such a positive story of going from nothing to something and that is what America’s Got Talent is all about!!!
If I found my winner on night one, I can’t wait to see if there is someone else that can top them. So tune into AGT tonight at 8p and every Tuesday and Wednesday on NBC for what is shaping up to be their best season yet.
BTW is it just me or was Howie Mandel a really great add to the show? I just love the vibe he has added to the show.
Finally New Directions Choir reminded me of the real life story of The Christmas Choir I saw on Hallmark. If you have never seen the movie, buy the DVD or make a point to watch it the next time it on The Hallmark Channel because it is the best holiday movie I have ever seen.
John Mayer was touring Europe, but due a mystery illness he announced on his site that he has cancelled a bunch of his upcoming dates.
After a sold-out performance in Copenhagen, John Mayer was forced to cancel his second show there on 5/31 due to illness. Regrettably, the illness has caused his remaining European shows scheduled through this week to be canceled as well (Amsterdam, Madrid and Manchester). Ticket holders should apply for refund from point of purchase. Mayer is returning home to the States and a full recovery is expected under a doctor’s supervision.
I wonder what is wrong with him that he had to leave Europe and go back to the US, could it be that he is suffering from home sickness?
