Sir Paul pays off Heather Mill’s charity
August 24th, 2006 under Paul McCartney/Heather Mills. [ Comments: none ]

Sir Paul McCartney is to make a substantial donation to the Adopt-a-Minefield charity after his split from wife Heather caused him to pull out of a benefit gala. The former Beatle will give a reported £1.6 million to the organisation. He was due to perform at the annual fundraising event in Los Angeles in October. The McCartneys are patrons of the charity and have jointly hosted the star-studded gala for the past five years, with a performance by Sir Paul the main attraction. But Sir Paul, 64, pulled out last month and the event has been cancelled. The charity confirmed he had offered to make a donation, but stressed he was under no obligation to pay compensation for his missed performance.Keith Kelly, director of Adopt-a-Minefield UK, said: "This is not compensation and we have not asked for any money."Paul is not under any legal obligation but he has offered to make a donation."He wanted to do this because he realises that not having the event this year is a big financial blow to us. The event has been cancelled because losing Paul at such short notice meant it was very difficult for us to replace him."We have not yet received a cheque so I have no idea how much he will give. The event normally raises 1.5 million dollars (£792,000) to two million dollars (£1,056,000). Whether Paul is thinking of matching that or not, I can’t say."

Elizabeth Taylor swimming with the sharks
August 24th, 2006 under Elizabeth Taylor. [ Comments: none ]

She has been married eight times – so it can safely be assumed she has tangled with her fair share of predators in her time. With that in mind, Elizabeth Taylor’s most recent excursion – despite her years and frail health – might not have proved such a problem for her.In what appeared to be an extraordinary new bid to prove her vitality after a slew of reports about her ill-health, Miss Taylor booked herself onto a great white shark expedition.Seemingly oblivious to her ever-deteriorating health, the 74-year-old wheelchair-bound actress enjoyed a two hour, six mile round trip, on a specialist shark-viewing boat off Hawaii.Never a stickler for convention, the Cleopatra actoress decided not to dress up for the occasion. Instead, she sported a kaftan-style nightdress over navy blue slipper socks.Evidently going for comfort over style, she also decided against any make-up, instead opting for the bare faced look. After emerging from her chauffeur-driven car, with the help of two aides – and her pet Maltese dog, Daisy – she made slow and painful progress to her boat for the day, the Kainani.Winched up and out of her cumbersome black wheelchair, she clambered onto the deck of the 32-foot long chartered vessel. Chatting to friends, she looked happy and relaxed as the boat set sail, heading towards the nearby shark grounds. Miss Taylor’s exciting excursion took place in North Oahu in Hawaii where she is currently holidaying. It is a rare trip abroad for the Dame. For the past few years she has remained a reclusive figure, plagued with ill health, and largely holed up in her Hollywood mansion.

August 24th, 2006 under Cindy Crawford, Unadmirable People. [ Comments: none ]

Supermodel Cindy Crawford has made the astonishing revelation that she has been using a cosmetic surgeon for the past 11 years. It had always been assumed that Miss Crawford earned her £25 million fortune from her natural looks. However, in a magazine interview out today, the 40-year-old mother-two spoke of making regular trips for treatments ranging from Botox, to vitamin and collagen injections. She went on to reveal that she has been getting such extra help with her looks since the age of 29. ‘I’m not going to lie to myself: past a certain age, creams work on the texture of your skin but, in order to restore elasticity, all I can really count on is vitamin injections, Botox and collagen,’ she tells this week’s Gala magazine.Crawford in the past has insisted that a ‘miracle mixture’ of ground coffee and olive oil kept her skin in its enviable condition. Yet with refreshing honesty, she admits: ‘I have a very simple, healthy life, which works miracles. I drink a lot of water, watch what I eat and exercise. ‘But I owe the quality of my skin to my cosmetic surgeon.’ The revelation is bound to come as something of a surprise to the hundreds of thousands of woman who have bought her beauty products over the years – making her fabulously wealthy. Some might think that they have been rather cheated that while they were hoping that her beauty could be attributed to the products she promotes, that is not altogether the case. Miss Crawford afterall has her own skincare range called Meaningful Beauty. Products includes facial mask, skin softening cleaners, moisturisers and neck rejuvenating creams. She says of her products: ‘I believe Meaningful Beauty is the best skin care available, and soon you will be able to discover the difference yourself. ‘Improve the tone and texture of your skin. Reduce the look of lines and wrinkles. Reveal skin that is smoother, softer and more radiant. They’re products that treat your skin in a meaningful way now for more beautiful, younger-looking skin tomorrow.’
