Do you want M Night to direct Potter?
July 9th, 2006 under Harry Potter. [ Comments: none ]

After four films, it has practically become a game — name the new Harry Potter director! In what has come to be amusing referred to as the "revolving door of directors," the incredibly popular Potter franchise has featured a new helmsman with every flick after the initial two. Sure the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) changes in style are occasionally notable, but the series itself continues to maintain powerful box office force despite the constant changing of the directorial guard. And with each successive successful film, the title becomes more and more of a prize for hopeful directors to win. It also simultaneously becomes more and more challenging; nobody wants to be the guy who screws up Harry Potter (if that is even possible).
It has already been whispered that ex-Python Terry Gilliam has been approached about directing one of the remaining two (David Yates has already been attached to part five), and now a new name enters the rumor fray — and like Gilliam, it is a biggie. M. Night Shyamalan recently said he was approached way back at the start to direct film one, but was too busy with Unbreakable at the time. What he calls the "dance" continues today, apparently, as interest is still strong in bringing Shyamalan to the Potter family. I haven’t decided what I think about this yet, so comment away and help me make up my mind.

I think M Night is overrated, so I say no.

Arctic Monkey’s bassist wants back in
July 9th, 2006 under Music. [ Comments: none ]

BEFORE they go overseas, Arctic Monkeys are heading home to Sheffield for crunch talks with departed bassist ANDY NICHOLSON. He quit the band last month during their US tour blaming exhaustion. NICK O’MALLEY replaced him – but now Andy wants to meet Alex on home turf to ask to rejoin. My source said: “There had been tension in the band from being cooped up on the road for months. Andy had a falling out with Alex and left. “But he has missed being part of the band he founded and wants to reclaim his place back before they record their second album.”

The Sun

I guess all he needed was a good night’s sleep.

Is this Star’s replacement?
July 9th, 2006 under The View. [ Comments: none ]

A Network leak has informed us that Star Jones’ replacement on The View has been chosen. In fact , our source insists it was a done deal several months ago. Nobody’s admitting anything yet, but we hear that Bo Griffin, who has been described as the "Oprah of Radio," is primed to step into Star’s Payless shoes. So who IS this woman, you might ask. Bo was a big Miami radio personality for years before she came to Hollywood to do TV shows including "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus," which she hosted. For three years she was a roving reporter on Fox’s Good Day Live and then she left LA and took over The Morning Show on 98.9 FM in Greenville, South Carolina. Her popular show featured many of Oprah’s themes – relationships, self improvement etc. If our snitch is right and she relocates to New York, we wonder if Bo will have to close the Goddess dress shop she opened in Greenville . Coincidentally or not, she bears more than a passing physical resemblence to Star, but is said to be "much nicer."

Janet Charlton’s Hollywood

OMG, I loved her in Miami on Power 96’s morning show! Seriously I hope she gets it!! Go Bo!

The instrument is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the former Beatle which says: "The above guitar belonging to my old school pal Ian James was the first guitar I ever held. "It was also the guitar on which I learned my first chords in his house at 43 Elswich Street, Liverpool 8." Sir Paul mentioned Mr James in "The Beatles", a biography by Hunter Davies. In the book, he described playing the guitar for a 16-year-old John Lennon at a fete in St Peter’s Church Hall in Woolton, Liverpool, in July 1957.Lennon was playing there with his band, The Quarrymen, and McCartney played some songs for them – convincing Lennon to let him join the band.McCartney said: "I showed him a few more chords he didn’t know."Ian James had taught me them, really. Then I left. I felt I’d made a good impression, shown them how good I was."Mr James, 64, is a retired father-of-three living in Ormskirk, Lancashire. He is selling the guitar to help fund his retirement. The lot also contains a photo taken by Sir Paul of a young Mr James playing the guitar in 1957 and a photo of the former Beatle playing the guitar in his office earlier this year.

Owen Wilson misses his brother’s boar’s head.
July 9th, 2006 under Frat Pack, Owen Wilson. [ Comments: none ]

OWEN WILSON often regrets kicking brother LUKE out of his Hollywood home, because he misses his sibling and the boar’s head he brought with him. THE WEDDING CRASHERS star admits his place hasn’t felt the same ever since his actor brother moved out following a row about tidiness. He explains, "He told me that I wasn’t keeping the place tidy enough. Luke can be a little bit of a type A personality. But what’s funny is, as soon as he moved out, I kind of missed him. "When he moved in he brought a stuffed boar’s head that he got from THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS. I was like, ‘Of all the props you could’ve gotten why did you get this?’ "But, then again, when he took that out I kind of missed it. It kind of, I felt, tied the whole room together." Now Owen’s home alone again, he’s seriously thinking about starting a meaningful relationship and sharing his place with a girlfriend. He adds, "My house could use a woman’s touch a little bit. I have a football table where the dining room table should be."
