Fatal helicopter crash while filming “The Final Season”
June 30th, 2006 under Movies. [ Comments: none ]

A helicopter being used to film scenes for a movie crashed in eastern Iowa on Friday, killing one person and critically injuring two others, authorities said.

The helicopter crashed just before 1 p.m., said Jim Saunders, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Federal Aviation Administration officials in Kansas City said the helicopter, a Bell 206, may have crashed because of a "wire strike."

The Gazette reported on its Web site that the helicopter was filming a parade for the movie "The Final Season" about a high school baseball team.

Witnesses said the helicopter was carrying the pilot, a producer and a photographer when it hit power lines and crashed into a field about 10 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids, the newspaper reported.

Benton County Sheriff Randy Forsyth said the person who died was from out of state, and the two injured were conscious when they were taken from the wreckage.

The helicopter was contracted through Ri Tel Copter Services Inc. in Hudson. A woman who answered the telephone at the company said a family member was piloting the aircraft and declined to comment.

"The Final Season" is based on the real-life story of the 1991 Norway High School baseball team. It stars Sean Astin and Powers Boothe and is being directed by David Mickey Evans, who also directed the "The Sandlot."

These are the numbers Anderson should’ve gotten with Angelina
June 30th, 2006 under Angelina Jolie, The View. [ Comments: none ]

Larry King Live nearly tripled its normal audience last night with the Star Jones interview. The show had 2,957,000 viewers with 917,000 in the 25-54 demo. That’s nearly double what Cooper got for the Jolie interview. No wonder CNN re-ran it today, though I wish they hadn’t.

I am still betting that K-Fed penny that Star is going to CNN! How cool would it be if she got the 10p slot knocking Anderson out of his?

A Twinkies Cookbook – what is next?
June 29th, 2006 under Odd. [ Comments: none ]

Twinkie lovers are gobbling up a new cookbook featuring recipes for Twinkie Burritos and Twinkie Sushi.

In 2005, as part of Twinkies’ 75th anniversary celebration, Hostess asked people to share their ideas for cooking with Twinkies. The publisher, Ten Speed Press, said hundreds of people responded with a collection of homegrown, creative, and sometimes wacky recipes.

The recipes include the aforementioned burrito filled with Twinkies, strawberries and chocolate and sushi — featuring green fruit leather instead of seaweed. Pigs in a Twinkie includes the traditional sausage.

The book includes more than 50 recipes and 20 full-color photographs.
