How do you remake House Party without Kid ‘n Play?
February 13th, 2018 under Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

When we think of House Party, we think of Kid ‘n Play because it was their movie more than a movie own its own. Yet LeBron James is working on a remake with “an entirely new look”, and they are not in it. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “Everyone I grew up with loved House Party. To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable.” Unbelievable it is being done.

Doing House Party without Kid ‘n Play is like doing Good Burger without Keenan and Kel or Wayne’s World without Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey or The Three Amigos without Steve Martin, Martin Short and Chevy Chase. They should not be done. Right? So why do think this is a good idea?

Now I understand how Cleveland felt when King James left the first time. I say first time because you know he will leave them again.

Crocodile Dundee is back, sort of!
January 23rd, 2018 under Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Shhh, there is a new Crocodile Dundee movie coming out this summer, but no one really knows anything about it. All we know is that Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home stars Danny McBride as Dundee’s American son and Chris Hemsworth as Wally Jr. The two are connecting because they are on a search to find Mick Dundee who has gone missing. Other than that, we know nothing. Things like if Paul Hogan and his ex-wife Linda Kozlowski will reprise the roles that made them huge stars in the ’80s. But then again why you do a Dundee film without them?

Is Diff’rent Strokes the next show to get a reboot?
January 2nd, 2018 under Gary Coleman, Revivals-Reboots, Stupid Sequels/Remakes, The Facts of Life. [ Comments: none ]

TV has given several shows from the ’90s reboots and revivals and now there could be one from the ’70s which might be coming back to our televisions. Todd Bridges Tweeted, “We maybe doing a new one [Diff’rent Stokes] i will be Willis Drummond I will be adopting two kids of a different color giving them the same opportunity that we where we were giving and showing the world no matter what color you are love conquers all.” I think that is something we need to be watching. The original normalized so much, I would love to see what a new version of it could do.

They obviously did something right the first time because it still airs in syndication on several channels after almost 40 years. Only a handful of shows can say that.

Diff’rent Strokes would also have to be a reboot because sadly Bridges and Charlotte Rae are the only surviving members from the original season. Who knows maybe if they ask nicely, they can get Janet Jackson to reprise her role as his girlfriend. What else is the youngest Jackson doing?

Could Mad About You be the next revival?
December 27th, 2017 under Paul Reiser, Revivals-Reboots, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Last month, Paul Reiser told Larry King that he was finally “open” to a Mad About You revival and now there are rumors that Sony is shopping it around for a limited run. According to TV Line, the revival would center around Paul and Jamie Buchman becoming empty nesters because their daughter is going off to college.

I, for one, would love to see how they would react to having the apartment to themselves again. You know, they would be wanting to try to have sex in the living room when someone would come barging through the door. Acting like newlyweds, who have actually been married forever.

ABC’s Dirty Dancing asks, ‘Watch me now!’
April 25th, 2017 under ABC, Stupid Sequels/Remakes. [ Comments: none ]

Ever since Dirty Dancing came out almost 30 years ago, everyone who saw it fell in love with it. The timeless film has been attracting new fans every time a parent shares their favorite movie with their kids who then share it with their friends who then share it with someone else and so on. In other words, it is perfect the way it is.

Or so we thought. ABC has other thoughts on that and remade the classic to air on May 24th. Nobody puts baby in the corner, but someone should put this remake there. It might be good, but that promo is no Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey lift. When will Hollywood learn, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! See Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show that lived up to two of the words in the title.
