Martin Luther King Jr convinced Nichelle Nichols to stay on Star Trek!
February 19th, 2015 under Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

There was a time when Nichelle Nichols was thinking of leaving Star Trek for Broadway, but a conversation with Martin Luther King Jr got her to change her mind.
The actress shared the story with MeTV about their chance meeting. The great civil rights leader was a big fan of the show and she told him she was going to leave Outer Space for the great white way. He said to her, “You mean leave Star Trek?” When she told him that she had to, he told her, “You cannot. Do you know what you have done and the honor you bring this role? And people who see you believe you.” Then he added, “You can’t leave. There are too many of us out here who are effected, children are growing up with you.” She explained to him that she could always come back, and he said to her, “It won’t be the same.” After a little bit of arguing back and forth, with one look he got his way. She never regretted taking his advice. And we never regretted her taking his advice.
If you don’t the history of why it was so important for her to stay on the show. She is the one of first African-American woman to play a character that was not a servant. She inspired many people and by playing the part she helped to open doors for many of today’s actors.
It was small conversation for man, and one giant leap for mankind.

Chris Pine serenades Jimmy Kimmel!
January 17th, 2014 under Chris Pine, Jimmy Kimmel, Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

Chris Pine was on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday and the ABC late night host told Captain Kirk that Meryl Street says he (her Into the Woods co-star) has a great singing voice. Kimmel then asked him to sing something and after a little persuasion he belted out Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon. Pine’s voice has me pining for him to fly me to the moon. I know that was cheesy, but then again so is that song.
But seriously, his voice is as enchanting as his eyes. It almost makes me want to go see Into the Woods, a musical I personally didn’t care for when I saw it.

Princess Leia has a (choke) hold on Captain Kirk!
December 31st, 2013 under Star Trek, Star Wars, William Shatner. [ Comments: none ]

For years, star Carrie Fisher and star William Shatner have been having their wars and now it looks like that long trek is over.
Captain Kirk Tweeted the above photo and said “The mighty @CarrieFFisher heroine to many But when I went to lunch with her she tried to choke me” Then a short time afterwards Princess Leia Tweeted the below picture and said, “We made up after I killed him.”
So if Princess Leia and Captain Kirk can be friends and J.J. Abrams can direct Star Trek and Star Wars, then why can’t we get a Star Wars Trek crossover movie? They both take place in space, one in a galaxy far far away and the other one to boldy go where no man has gone before. So why can’t the Enterprise boldy go to that far far away galaxy? C’mon Disney and Paramount, let’s make this happen. It will be bigger than Batman vs Superman and X-Men vs The Fantastic Four. Who’s with me???
But seriously, who else is happy that these two finally worked things out and that we got this sweet picture out of it!

Captain Picard and Spock went to Coney Island with Gandalf!
September 21st, 2013 under Sir Patrick Stewart/Sir Ian McKellen, Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

Leonard Nimoy Tweeted this picture of Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart and him at Coney Island and it made me as happy as when I went to the seaside amusement park as a kid!
Seriously aren’t the three of them just so cute together? Imagine what it must’ve been like when people saw them together. I am sure they thought they were on Nathan’s high and what they were seeing wasn’t real. Great now I am craving Nathan’s hot dog and fries!

Benedict Cumberbatch’s topless showering scene was cut from Star Trek
May 22nd, 2013 under Benedict Cumberbatch, Conan O'Brien, Star Trek. [ Comments: none ]

J.J. Abrams was on Conan O’Brien’s show today and revealed that one of Benedict Cumberbatch’s pivotal scenes from Star Trek: Into the Darkness was lying down on the cutting room. The moment we would’ve been waiting for had it been in the movie was of him showering. Something we would’ve been excited about had it been included, but no they didn’t. We better get a longer clip in the DVD extras.
