NEW AMSTERDAM centers on a brilliant and enigmatic New York homicide detective unlike any other. And he has a profound secret — he is immortal.
In 1642, JOHN AMSTERDAM (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), then a Dutch solider in the colony of New Amsterdam – later to become New York City — stepped in front of a sword to save the life of a Native American girl during a massacre of her indigenous tribe. The girl in turn rescued Amsterdam, weaving an ancient spell that conferred immortality upon him. Amsterdam will not age, she told him, until he finds his one true love. Only then will he become whole and ready for mortality.
Amsterdam has found this to be a mixed blessing. Over the course of three centuries, he’s experienced endless adventure and honed his many talents. But everyone Amsterdam meets must leave him in time; friends, lovers and children grow old and eventually die, while he remains young. The exhilaration of eternal life has given way to emotional isolation and loneliness; the blessing has become a curse. His sole confidant and current lifelong friend is the sage jazz club owner OMAR (Stephen Henderson), the keeper of Amsterdam’s secret, as well as a few of his own.
Having witnessed its entire history from colonial outpost to mega-metropolis, John Amsterdam is the living embodiment of New York City. He and the island of Manhattan are joined — part and parcel. Bringing to bear the unorthodox techniques and unique knowledge gained from his vast life experience, Amsterdam today is one of the NYPD’s best homicide detectives, sparring with his vibrant, strong-willed partner EVA MARQUEZ (Zuleikha Robinson) as they solve difficult murder cases.
New Amsterdam finally premieres on Fox tonight at 9p after American Idol! I say finally because the show was originally suppose to air in the fall.
The concept of the show is interesting, a man who cannot die until he meets his true love. In the search for true love he has met many women and has had two children that we know of. The pilot also has him chasing a subject and dying (for a little while) from his heart exploding. He is convinced that he had the heart attack because the woman that will free him was there at that time. Now he is on a search to find her so he can grow old and die.
The show also has your procedural crime drama for those of you who are in to that!
So check out New Amsterdam tonight at 9p on Fox!

So when Cashmere Mafia first premiered on ABC, I opted to skip it because I was already watching too many other shows. Then last week, I decided to catch up on the show and I am glad I did! The chemistry between Bonnie Somerville, Lucy Liu, Frances O’Connor and Miranda Otto is amazing! The storylines are original and it is great to have a show where you have 4 woman in charge who are not all bitches! The women are at different stages in their love lives, Juliette (Otto) found out her husband is cheating on her, Zoe (O’Connor) is in a happy marriage but work eats up a lot of her time, Mia’s fiance’ dumped her after she beat him out for a promotion and Caitilin (Somerville) is experimenting if you know what I mean?!? All that successful careers and social lives!
This is a great show to watch on hump day because it gives you just enough motivation to wake up and go to work for two more days. So tune into Cashmere Mafia on ABC tonight at 10p!
Oxygen’s Husband for Hire is one of the funnest movies I have seen in a really long time. It is a crazy ride that keeps thrilling for the whole two hours!
Seriously this movie is so much fun and the cast is a riot! C’mon you have Erik Estrada, Mark Consuelos and Maria Lopez, what more does a girl need!
The movie starts out with Lola going to Mexico to hire a husband, think Home Depot, and picks out Bo. Bo needs a lot of work to get her dad’s approval so imagine all the hijinx that they go through trying to get him ready and even after they meet her dad the hijinx don’t stop! Add in his girlfriend, her bitchy sister, an ex-fiance, his trailer-trash brother, her best friend swallowing caffeine pills like tic tacs and you have a movie with so many twist and turns you will be bummed that movie has to come to end!
So tune in to Oxygen’s Husband for Hire tonight at 8p, I promise you will enjoy it as much as me!
Tonight on Lifetime Nikki Blonsky makes her TV movie debut in Queen Sized at 9p and it was a great debut in a good movie.
Nikki Blonsky plays an overweight teen Maggie Baker that is nominated for Homecoming Queen as a joke, but she takes the nomination seriously. Annie Potts plays her mom and is big reason why she has no self-confidence. She has friends who support and she winds up making new ones that will do anything to help her become school reality. What is so great movie is it is great to watch Maggie Baker grow in the movie and go from someone who has no self-confidence walk with her head held high by the end of movie.
So tune it to Queen Sized tonight on Lifetime at 9p for a movie that will inspire you!
When I was 8 years old my uncle went into rehab, so I learned at a young age the negative effects of drugs. But most people don't have that luxury.
Tonight on Vh1 at 10p Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew premieres and shows you what rehab is like. Jeff Conaway is the worst and the main focus of the first two episodes as well as he should be. His extreme downfall scares everyone including the celebs who are in rehab. He is so far gone after doing $1,000 worth of prescription and recreational drugs the 24 hours before going into rehab. As he enters he is drinking champagne in the car. He is so bad that his speech is so slurred even subtitles can't capture what he saying and he needs to get around in a wheelchair. He looks and sounds like someone who has last-stage ALS or Alzheimer's it makes you want to cry and this is before the first commercial break. He gets worse and worse as the show goes on and he is taken to the hospital because his withdrawal is so bad he had a seizure. The other rehabbers watch him being taken away in horror.
Brigette Nielson, Mary Carey, Chyna are all in for alcohol abuse, Jamie Foxworth is in for pot, Seth Binzer and Jessica Sierra coke and alcohol and Daniel Baldwin is there for a check-up I guess you can say.
The show starts out with the celebs just before rehab, entering rehab and telling Dr Drew why they are there and then getting checked out. Seth Binzer in the before asks the cameras to stop rolling because he wants to buy some drugs after showing us him smoking crack. We see Jessica Sierra partying to the point of hurling, Mary Carey slur her words saying she is not drunk and Jamie and her friends getting high before they leave for a party.
They enter the facility, choose their rooms and have their stuff inspected. Mary who came in drunk is bummed because they take away her porn, dildos and a strap-on.
Next we have group meetings and they get to know each other and one-on-ones. The group meetings are extremely intense and touching. We see a whole new side to Brigette who becomes the resident mother and helps the others through their mother issues. It will make you cry.
We also see a much different Brigette and Chyna who are nothing like they were when they were on The Surreal Life, but we see the same screwed up Jeff Conaway we saw on Celebrity Fit Club. I have to say I do not remember Daniel Baldwin on CFC and I can live without him on Celeb Rehab. He is all preachy and acts like he is better than everyone else because he has been sober for almost a year.
Also on the show we watch as they go through the stages of rehab. The just entering rehab still a little intoxicated to withdrawing to trying to live life sober and it is quite amazing.
This show does not glamorize rehab, but shows you what it is really like. And in a day when celebs are getting busted for DUI every week, and making it look cool. A show like this is mandatory to show it is not cool and a lifestyle teens should not look up to.
We know that show did not work for everyone. Jessica Sierra was arrested while intoxicated and has been sentenced to a year of rehab, some of which she will do with Dr Drew when she is allowed to leave the Florida. And the reality is not everyone gets clean the first time they try rehab like Daniel Baldwin who was in 11 times before this and Jeff Conaway who was in at least one other time.
So tune into Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew tonight on Vh1 at 10p and see the other side of celebrity drug use. Or if you have a teen watch it with them so they can see the pit falls of drug and alcohol abuse.
