The hills comes alive with the sound of Carrie Underwood’s voice |

I have to admit when I heard that NBC was doing a live version of The Sound of Music, I was very hesitant about it. Now that I have heard her sing some of the most famous songs from the movie, I am prepared to be blown away on December 5th when the special airs on NBC at 8p.

Ironside is no longer Welcome to the NBC Family |

NBC announced today that they cancelled both Ironside and Welcome to the Family after just 3 low rated episodes. Their timeslots will be filled with specials and repeats until the beginning of the New Year. Community is back on Thursdays at 8p starting on January 2nd and on January 8th the Chicago Fire spinoff, Chicago PD, debuts.
Maybe it is me, but I don’t see the logic of having dead programming at those times for 2 and a half months. People will forget those timeslots exist and won’t remember to tune in when those shows have their premieres. They will have already become loyal to The Millers and Nashville or CSI.
Now when it comes to the cancellations, the news doesn’t surprise me. Ironside was too dark and unlikable, but the good news is that Pablo Schreiber is free to do something better. When it comes to Welcome to the Family, I adore Mary McCormack but I couldn’t suffer through this show for Mike O’Malley and her.
UPDATE: Mary McCormack Tweeted this picture of her TV daughter, Ella Rae Peck, reacting to the news that their show was cancelled. Along with the awesome photo, she said “NBC cancels #wttf might as well smoke pregnant.”
BTW neither actress is really pregnant, so don’t get into an uproar because they holding cigarettes while wearing fake baby bumps.

The Biggest Loser is back with an American Idol winner! |
| October 15th, 2013 under American Idol 1-5, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

The Biggest Loser is back on NBC tonight for its 15th season at 8p and it is all about second chances. Fifteen contestants are not only battling it out to win a cash prize, but they are also doing it to lose weight and change their lives for the better.
There are many reasons why the contestants are there, and for the first time in the show’s history the trainers pick who will compete on the show. Then once they decide who should be competing, they have to choose their teams. Of course no one wants to be on Jillian’s and do you blame them? Now that the teams are chosen, it is time for the hard work to begin and they contestants will give it their all.
Then it is time for the weigh-in and these contestants mean business. They drop pounds like it is nothing. One person even drops the weight of an average 9 year old kid. That is a lot of poundage to lose!
But one team doesn’t do as well as the others, so one of their contestants will be sent packing. That is unless their trainer decides to use their save and keep them on the show for at least another week. That is another thing they added this season, each coach is given one save. So will the losing coach use theirs week one, or hold on to it? You will have to tune into find out.
Now the big talk about this season is not the changes, not the coaches, but one of the contestants competing this year. It is a name we all know and it is Ruben Studdard.
American Idol’s second winner is also a winner tonight but not in a way he would want to be. That is because he is the heaviest contestant on the show this season. That is why he is there, he wants to lose that weight and be healthy. His health is #1 priority and he is getting himself in shape to promote his upcoming 6th album. So when he becomes healthy, he will be around for a long long time to record many more albums.
Now this isn’t the first time he has tried to lose weight and he recently explained on a conference call why he chose to do it this way. He said, “This is very different for me. I’m usually a very private and personal guy, and so do to this it was a lot to think about and I knew that it was going to be different for me.†Then he added, “But I just wanted to get myself together and get myself on a track to getting healthy. And, this show has really been that vehicle for me.†A vehicle we will see him be a driving force on as he tries be a Velvet Teddy Bear with a lot less stuffing.
As we know teddy bears are furry and as you can see in that clip above, Jillian is not happy with his back hair and she lets him know she wants him to wax it off. So when I was on that conference call, I had to know what he thought about her reaction to his “taco meat†as he puts it. He chuckled before his response, “You know, I feel that you know in today’s society, men have stopped being men and have let women prettify them. And you know, especially guys like Dolvett (Quince). You know, they’re all cleanly shaved up, you know no body hair. But in the ‘70s you see, all the artist you know from Teddy Pendergrass to Al Green, to you know the Bee Gee’s, everybody had chest hair.†Then he added, “You know nowadays, these guys, they’re too clean. You know, I’m okay. I’m cool in my skin. I’m just trying to lose a little weight. I’m not trying to change my manliness.†And he shouldn’t change the man that he is. He should be who he wants to be. So will Jillian get her way with him, Executive Producer Lisa Hennessy told us we will just have to watch to find out. To which trainer Dolvett added that we will definitely want to see that episode.
But we won’t only be tuning in to see Ruben possibly lose his “taco meatâ€, we also be watching as 15 people change their lives for the better. The Biggest Loser inspires you to get off the couch and be a little healthier. So what else do you need to watch this show every Tuesday at 8p on NBC?
And make sure to have the tissues ready because while they are shedding pounds, we will be shedding tears.

Michael J Fox is returning to TV in a self-title show tonight at 9p on NBC and it is nice to have him back!
Mike Henry (Fox) is a former newsanchor in NYC, who gave up his job 5 years ago to spend time with his family. Now his wife, Annie (Betsy Brandt) and their kids recent college dropout, Ian (Conor Romero), angst-ridden high schooler, Eve (Juliette Goglia), and cute little Graham (Jack Gore) all want him to go back to work. So they come up with a way to have him meet up with his old boss, Harris Green (Wendell Pierce), who would love to have him back on KNBC’s air. Mike didn’t realize until their meeting that he missed working, so when given the chance to go back to work he takes him up on the offer.
So now Mike is dealing with how to spend time with his family while he works. And they learn to deal with him back at the grind.
NBC wants to make sure this show does well, so they are giving it a special one-hour premiere, the second episode airs at 9:30p (its regularly scheduled time). During this episode, Mike goes upstairs to his neighbor’s to tell them to turn the really loud television down. He assumes that it is an older man, but is surprised when it turns out to be Tracy Pollan who is on the other side of the door. No he develops a crush on her and his wife is jealous. So Annie decides to set her up with Harris, something Mike doesn’t like.
Now Mike might not like that, but we will love this show that is shot documentary style with candid confidential moments between the family members with the camera throughout the show. This is the perfect show to bring Michael J Fox back to television, so tune into watch it every Thursday from here on out at 9:30p

Law & Order: SVU holds you captive with an intense hour of excellent TV |
| September 25th, 2013 under Dick Wolf, NBC. [ Comments: 1 ]

Law & Order: SVU ended last season with Benson (Mariska Hargitay) being held at gun point by the recently freed rapist, kidnapper and murderer, William Lewis (Pablo Schreiber), who always seems to get away with his brutal crimes. Well tonight’s season premiere on NBC at 9p picks up a few hours later with Benson tied to chair, duct tape on her mouth and bruises and burns all over her body.
Since she was on a forced two day leave from the unit, no one has checked in on her and her boyfriend, Cassidy (Dean Winters), had to cancel out on her because he had to work a double shift. Well now Cassidy is worried because he hasn’t heard from her, so he goes to check to see if anyone at SVU has. Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) is afraid that she might’ve gone down one of her “rabbit holes”, so he asks Fin (Ice-T) and Rollins (Kelli Giddish) to check on her because it has been 35 hours since they have heard from her. When they get there; they find her apartment has been ransacked and realize Lewis has her and attacked her.
Now they are all looking for Benson, knowing time is of the essence with him. No matter how good their clues are they keep hitting dead ends and that means even more time she is alone with this psychopath.
As they search for her, we witness what torture he puts her through over and over again. We know she will never be the same, but is that as bad as it is going to get for her?
In this one hour of excellent television, we will feel everyone’s emotions; Benson’s pain and will to live, Lewis’ torment, craziness and anger, and all of the detectives desperation as they try to find her but keep coming up empty handed time and time again.
Then there is a moment that will bring back the feeling you had when Edith hit her would be rapist in the face with a burnt pan on All in the Family. Does that mean she breaks free? You don’t want to know, you just want to follow every moment as it happens. That’s because Mariska Hargitay delivers an Emmy winning performance tonight. I can’t remember the last time when I saw an actress pour her heart and soul into an episode like she did. It is her portrayal that will leave you drained because it is so powerful. She will amaze you so much that you will get off the couch to give her a standing ovation when the episode ends. One that is very much deserved.
But tonight’s episode isn’t only about her, mostly, but not all. Pablo Schreiber proves that he is one to watch with or without a pornstache.
And if you have the energy to watch another Law & Order: SVU episode after this one, then NBC has one waiting to entertain you.
Before we get to SVU, Revolution is back on a new night and time. The episode picks up 6 months after the bombs went off and we see the toll it is taking on all of them. They each take it differently and Revolution is not the show we knew last season. It will be interesting to see how the changes will effect the drama because it is drastically different. I don’t want to say too much because a lot of what I could tell is very spoilerish and I am sure you don’t want that.
