The fall TV season begins tonight
September 24th, 2018 under ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

It is the first Monday after the Emmys and that means it is time for the start of the fall season on broadcast TV. As much as this pains to me say, this is the weakest one for new shows in a really long time. Since there are a lot of shows premiering over the next few weeks, I am going to put them all in one post on a daily basis from, what I think is, best to worst.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhKmfJrnrw0
The best show of the night goes to a new one and that is Manifest that debuts on NBC at 10p. Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) and her family went on vacation with her brother, Ben (Josh Dallas), his wife Grace (Athena Karkanis), their twins, Cal (Jack Messina) and Olive (Luna Blaise) and their parents (Malachy Cleary and Geraldine Leer) and it is time to go home.

Michaela is ready to get home, but she will do anything not to travel with her nagging mom. When the airline opens up 4 seats, she decides to go along with her brother and his son who is battling cancer. Cal’s diagnosis is grim, so Ben wants to spend some time alone with him. They just have no idea what will happen next.

Their flight seems normal until they hit some turbulence. Once things level out, it is time to land at JFK. Air traffic control tells them to land at a nearby airport instead. When they get there, they find out that it has been 5 and 1/2 years since they took off. No one has aged a day in that time, while everyone else on the ground, including their family, has.

After several hours of quarantine, the passengers are reunited with their families. Now, they have to adjust to being together again. That is not the only difference, they start hearing a voice in their head that tells them to do something. They do not understand and that is something we are going to find out.

While I really like the pilot, I am cautionary optimistic because we have been down this road before with sci-fi shows. They give a good pilot and then it is all downhill from there. Hopefully, this will break that pattern. Please break the pattern because there is a lot of potential here.

Robert Greenblatt will ease on down the road out of NBC
September 24th, 2018 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

In 2011, Robert Greenblatt left Showtime to become the Chairman of NBC. At first, I hated him because I blamed him for cancelling Queer As Folk at his old job, and then I was told it was the producers’ decision, not his. Therefore, I had a new approach about him running the network.

You probably do not know his name, but he has done a lot to help make NBC successful after Jeff Zucker nearly destroyed it. He helped launch The Voice, The Chicagos, Smash, live shows, Undateable: Live, This Is Us, The Good Place, brought back Will & Grace and so much more. Today, as the fall season begins, NBC is the only network who is going into the season strong with new and old shows.

His departure surprises me because the network is in a very strong place. My theory to why he is leaving is that the death of Craig Zadan, who co-produced the live musicals, hit him hard. Since Greenblatt loves to do live television and Broadway, I think he will be joining Zadan’s old partner Neil Moren.

That is just my guess. He told his staff in a memo, “It is with very mixed feelings that I have decided to leave NBC after nearly eight years. I love this network and our parent company, but since NBC is back on track and has achieved such great success I think it’s time for me to turn to a new challenge.”

Before NBC, he and his producing partner David Janollari, who ran The CW for a short time, created shows like Six Feet Under, One and One, and Eve. I wish him the best and my thanks for creating so many enjoyable shows.

Who will be replacing him? His shoes are so big, it is going to take two people. George Cheeks, Co-President, Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios, and Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Reality Group. Both who served under him and will continue with his vision that has served the network so well. Or else!

Trial & Error delivers the mother of all episodes
August 16th, 2018 under Kristin Chenoweth, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtbxdNy8ldw
Tonight’s Trial & Error on NBC at 9p is so funny you will think you smoked 9 joints waiting to watch it.

Last week, Josh Segal (Nicholas D’Agosto) realized that his client Lavina Peck Foster (Kristen Chenoweth) actually killed her husband, hours after he literally got her off for murder. Now he is going to try East Peck’s most beloved and richest resident for the murder of her brother Chet 9 years ago.

Jesse Ray Beaumont (Michael Hitchcock) was tried for his murder and convicted for the crime. Before Chet died, Jesse Ray was given a box with something very valuable inside of it that he dumped in the river behind his house. When Josh finds the box, inside reveals the reason why Lavina killed her brother and another mystery you do not want to miss.

Not only that Carol Anne Keane (Jayma Mays) goes into labor and that gets us into the 9:30p episode… Is Josh the baby daddy?

Tonight’s episodes are chock full of nuts, and that is just the residents of East Peck. There is also sex, drugs and Rock’n’Roll. What more do you need to watch the show that you are not watching? How about so many laughs, you will need adult diapers to keep your seat dry! Because no show makes you laugh as much as this one.

Another reason to watch is we need to save this show so it can a third season on either Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime or YouTube Premium.

Trial & Error pleads its case tonight and will win your heart!
August 9th, 2018 under NBC. [ Comments: 1 ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXxRniaYoNs
After a week off, Trial & Error is back with two new episodes on NBC at 9p tonight and there is going to be a big development in the case.

Things are not looking good for Lavinia Peck-Foster (Kristin Chenoweth) when Dwayne Reed (Steven Boyer) breaks down on the stand and declares to everyone that she killed her husband. She then tells lawyer aka Josh (Nicholas D’Agosto) that he needs to fire his right hand that fingered her in the courtroom.

Now Josh has to fire him and prove his client did not kill her husband. Will he be able do it? When new evidence presents itself to him, he might be able to get her off. And in more than one way if she has her way.

What happens next you won’t see coming. And that gets us into the second episode, but I cannot tell you anything about it. Well, I can tell you it is funny.

I like shows that make me laugh. When they make me think about why I am laughing and Trial & Error does just that. It is so witty and stupid at the same time, and that is why it is so brilliant. It is in the vain of movies like Airplane and Naked Gun. You will never get all the jokes during the first viewing, so you have to watch it a few times to get them all.

Earlier this week, NBC made the mistake of not ordering a third season of the comedy. That means, it is up for grabs and the show’s creator told me he wants to shop it around to streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu. If ever a broadcast show was perfect for binge viewing, it is this one. You can hit that 10 seconds back button and catch that joke you just missed. That or play it again to see if they really said that. They did, FYI.

So tune in tonight for the best comedy you are not watching. If more people watch, then we will get a season 3 and 4 and…

NBC makes time for a Timeless series finale
July 31st, 2018 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrZnr4Vy4FM
Out of all of the shows that were cancelled last season, Timeless has the biggest and most vocal fanbase. Clockblockers fought really hard to save our show and it worked! NBC announced today that they will give the beloved time-traveling drama a 2-part series finale during the holidays to give us closure! But be prepared because they warn it will be an emotional goodbye.

Executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke wished the show could have gone for as many years as the team traveled, as in centuries. Then they added, “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

We want Rufus back. While like the EPs said, it is a not another season. It is still better than nothing.

I am going to do a happy dance to Robert Johnson. If you do not get why I said that, then you are not a Clockblocker!

Sincerest thanks to everyone who made this happen. The power of the fans! Now can someone let The Last Man on Earth do the same thing because I want to see how Will Forte’s description of what was going to happen next, happen?

How excited are you that the show will get a proper ride off into time?

UPDATE: Abigal Spencer recorded a thank you message for the fans. To see it and her spill coffee all over herself, then click here!
