October 4th, 2006 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

In series-premiere news, the lights were clearly not bright on new NBC drama Friday Night Lights, which kicked-off with a mere 5.3/ 8 in the overnights (#4), 7.18 million viewers (#3) and a 2.7/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3) at 8 p.m. Comparatively, former occupant The Biggest Loser averaged a heftier 5.9/ 9 in the overnights (#3), 8.36 million viewers and a 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49 on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005. NBC sued over Heroes’ garbage disposal scene
October 3rd, 2006 under Lawsuits, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

The company that makes In-Sink-Erator garbage disposers is suing NBC, claiming that an episode of the new show "Heroes" makes the product look bad. Appliance maker Emerson filed the lawsuit in a St. Louis federal court Monday, seeking to block rebroadcasts of the "Heroes" pilot. In the episode, a high-school cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere) who has the ability to withstand injury sticks her hand into an In-Sink-Erator while it’s running, mangling her fingers (which return to normal within a few seconds). Emerson’s suit claims the scene "casts the disposer in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product" by suggesting that serious injuries will result "in the event consumers were to accidentally insert their hand into one." The suit, however, is more about NBC’s use of the In-Sink-Erator name than the content of the scene, the company says. "It’s a trademark thing," spokesman Dan Callahan tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. NBC hasn’t commented on the suit. Emerson is asking for a ruling barring future broadcasts of the pilot, which is available on NBC’s website and has already aired on NBC Universal-owned cable networks USA and Sci Fi. It also seeks to block NBC from using any Emerson trademarks in the future.

Amy Heckerling working on an ’80s comedy for NBC
October 3rd, 2006 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

Amy Heckerling, who helped define the 1980s teenager with "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," is revisiting the decade via a project she’s working on at NBC. Tentatively titled "1985," the skein will center on a girl growing up in the 1980s, as narrated (a la "The Wonder Years" and "Everybody Hates Chris") by the woman in the present day. Stories will focus on her memories of being a Reagan-era teen, navigating high school and family life. Heckerling plans to use music of the period as a backdrop. NBC Universal TV Studio is behind the single-camera half-hour project, which has been picked up as a script at the Peacock. Heckerling is on board to exec produce, write and direct. Heckerling most recently served as a director on NBC’s hit comedy "The Office." Her past TV credits include the small-screen version of her hit movie "Clueless," which aired on both ABC and UPN. She also was involved in CBS’ 1986 remake of "Fast Times," but that version lasted only a month.

I hope this script gets turned into a pilot that gets picked up for next season because Amy Heckerling is brilliant!

The Killers to perform on SNL’s season premiere tonight
September 30th, 2006 under NBC, The Killers. [ Comments: 1 ]

The coups keep coming for The Killers. In the summer of 2005, the electro-pop phenoms from Las Vegas performed in London for the Live 8 charity extravaganza. They’re back as musical guests on "Saturday Night Live," this time for the show’s season premiere tonight. "All the stars came together," said their manager Robert Reynolds. "Obviously, a lot of bands were vying for that spot." They’ll play two songs — "When You Were Young" and "Bones" — from their new album, "Sam’s Town," which is being released on Tuesday. For "Bones," The Killers will get help from the horn section of SNL’s house band. The song’s video is being produced by veteran director Tim Burton, his first music video. The Killers will be musical guests on ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live" for three consecutive nights next week, a first for Kimmel’s show.

I am curious to see how the smaller SNL cast does tonight.

Liza Minnelli to guest star on Law & Order!
September 29th, 2006 under Dick Wolf, Liza Minnelli, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

Liza Minelli, fresh off her cameo appearance in the film "The OH in Ohio" and her recurring role in "Arrested Development," will guest-star in an upcoming episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."  Minelli, 59, will play a former beauty queen whose daughter, an aspiring beauty queen, was found murdered on Halloween night, said Pam Golum, a spokeswoman for Wolf Films, which produces the NBC show. The episode, called "Masquerade," is filming now and will air in November, Golum said Thursday.

Sounds like a twisted take on the JonBenet Ramsey case. Plus it is nice to finally see Liza play a Queen for once since she has been married to so many!
On another note, first Chevy Chase now Liza Minnelli…who is next?
