If you are like Stephen Colbert and me, then you probably have wondered at some point how Ice Cube got his name. Well, unlike us, The Late Show host had the chance to ask him, so he did. That was when he explained how is brother gave him the name that he would be known as for the rest of his life.
O’Shea used to try to talk to his older brother’s girlfriends when the called, and then one day, Clyde gave him a little warning to stop doing that. Cube shared that story on the CBS late night show, “Back in the day when you had an old refrigerator, they would push it on the curve and guys would come by and pick it up. My brother was like, ‘Yo, you know, that refrigerator down the street? Take you down there, I’m slam you in the freezer when they pull you out, you are going to be Ice Cube.'” After that threat, the actor ran and told his friends not to call him O’Shea anymore because he was going by Ice Cube. To this day, he has kept that cool name!
As cool as it is, I was hoping for a much cooler explanation. Like he and his friends had an ice cube eating contest and he won. Or on a hot Compton day, he sat on an ice cube until it melted. Or under difficult a situation, he remained as solid as an ice cube. Or he got into a Fist Fight (I loved that movie) with someone and took them out with a sock full of ice cubes? How did you think he got the name?
Back when Ice Cube went by O’Shea Jackson, his mother would drag him to photoshoots. One of his photos became so popular that it was featured in calendars. In fact, Cube told Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly that he would go to people’s houses and see his picture on their wall.
Who knew that that cute kid would turn out to be the Rapper/Action Star that he is today from that picture? I never would’ve. He looks like he would grow up to be a banker or something boring. Glad it didn’t turn out that way because I love him the way just the way he is now!
I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember ever seeing Ice Cube and Ice-T together. Do you?
Well today they were both on Today promoting their different projects at different times and the NBC new shows though it would be cool to take a photo of them together. They were right. The rappers turned actors go together like, well, ice t and ice cube!

Ice Cube might have done some movies and TV shows for kids, but his music is so not kid friendly. That all changed because he just released Kidz Bop Hip Hop. Basically him and a few other Hip Hop stars reworked their songs and made them appropriate for the under 10s.
The songs on the CD are Cube’s It Was a Good Day, Lil’ Jon’s Get Low, Ty Dolla $ign’s Paranoid, A$AP Rocky’s F*cking Problems, Big Sean’s I Don’t F*ck with You and a special surprise. Well those are the original titles of them, but, like I said, they all got a G-rated makeover. One that is so pimpin’, it will make you run out and buy that album for your kids.
You’ll see what I mean when you watch the promo that aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday and you hear the updated tunes that your preschooler will be singing nonstop.

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube were on Australia’s Today today to promote their movie Ride Along 2 and the comedian, who thinks like a man, wishes he didn’t ride along for that interview. That’s because they had a reptile expert on the show and she brought along some slimy friends for everyone to play with.
Hart might play a tough guy in the movies, but in real life he is anything but that. He stood as far away from the Blue Tongue Lizard and the Black Headed Python. Even though he was still several feet away from them, he was screaming like a little guy and looked like he went #1 and #2 in his pants.
I hope the American talk shows see this segment, so the next time they have him on the show they have some lizards and snakes on the show for him to play with. How much fun would that be for us?
