Michael Weatherly announced today that this will be Bull’s final season on CBS.
“Hello all! It’s been my privilege to play Dr Jason Bull but after 6 Seasons of incredible storylines, I’ve decided it’s time to pursue new creative challenges and bring his story to a close,” the actor wrote. “It has been an honor to work with this talented cast, crew, and writing/producing team who helped reinvent the legal drama. Stay tuned for a big series finish…Thanks to all the fans from the bottom of my heart. You will always be a part of our Bull family!”
Is the news a surprise? Not really; it has never been a ratings juggernaut. This year has been even tougher on the show that was moved to Thursdays at 10p. That, and it was controversial after Weatherly was accused of sexually harassing Eliza Dushku and CBS gave her an almost $10 million settlement.
In other cancellation news, NBC is no longer in business with Ellen DeGeneres. That is because they cancelled Ellen’s Game of Games after four seasons, according to Deadline.
Tonight at 8p on CBS, Andrew Simon, president and CEO, Fremont Street Experience, becomes an Undercover Boss and gets one of the most strenuous workouts any boss has ever gotten on the series.
The Freemont Experience is a six-block event in Downtown Las Vegas, and it attracts almost 25 million visitors every year. They were hit hard by the pandemic. Not only were there fewer people coming to Vegas, but they have a 100% turnover rate. That means for every person they hire, someone quits. Simon has to figure out why they can’t get anyone to stay, even with bonuses.
They say a boss should get his hands dirty, and that is exactly how Simon starts off his assignment. He travels with Emmie from the custodial team, and he gets a lesson about how difficult it is to keep the area clean, especially with outdated and broken-down equipment. He also gains insight into why people don’t stay at the job, and it is not only because of what they do.
His next task takes him above ground, where he learns how hard it is to operate their lighted canopy that has 50 million LED lights from Ronald, the Assistant Manager of the Maintenance Department. It is not a job for someone who is afraid of heights, and he learns that he is. It is a strenuous job, and there are things that can be done to make the job more efficient if they had the right tools. And as is the case with Emmie, he learns why people are quitting.
Finally, it is time for him to learn the ropes of Slotzilla, the five-block zip line. It was one of their biggest moneymakers before the pandemic, but now it is losing over a million dollars every other month. That is because they can’t get enough people to work the ride, so it closed for six days a week. He is going to be teamed up with Josephine, who will show him hard this job is on the body and how quick the turnaround has to be between guests. If the customer waits too long, then they can get their money back.
At the end of the day, he has a new appreciation for his employees and a better understanding of what he needs to do to get people to stay on the job. Hopefully, he learned from his three employees how much the company needs to improve for its workers so that they no longer have a 100% turnover rate.
Sophia Bush is back on television tonight in the medical drama Good Sam on CBS at 10p. It is not your typical medical show because it adds the twist of what happens when it is a family business.
Dr. Sam Griffith (Bush) grew up in the hospital because her dad Griff (Jason Isaacs) is Chief of Surgery, and her mom, Vivian Katz (Wendy Crewson), runs it. However, her parents are no longer together because her dad’s first, second, and third love is surgery.
Sam followed in her father’s footsteps and became a heart surgeon, and she works under him at the same hospital. He is very tough on his daughter and all the other surgeons. Sam is unlike him in that manner. She is not only a heart surgeon, but she also has a heart when it comes to her patients and co-workers.
One day their lives are all going to change when Griff is shot in the hospital, and he spends several months in a coma. No one knows if he is going to wake up. Therefore, they make Sam the new head of surgery in his absence.
Just when they are ready to make the announcement, Griff wakes up. He wants his title back, and he can’t have it because it is Sam’s. Not only that, he has to be cleared to work again. Sam has to approve that, and he has to work under her. He doesn’t want to work under anyone, including his daughter, and he will undermine with every chance that he gets.
How will the two Griffins learn to work together with their new dynamic? That is what we will find out when we watch Good Sam every Wednesday night.
Good Sam is like a dream come true for Bush. She shared how during a press event at the CBS Winter Press Day. She said, “The irony of all of this is that my plan as a kid. I don’t know if it’s growing up the daughter of an immigrant or what. But your options are really like you’re a doctor or a lawyer, or a lawyer or a doctor. So as a young person, I said I wanted to be a doctor. And I was particularly fascinated with heart surgery. Considered it as a specialty.”
However, something happened that changed her career path. “My high school drama teacher got in the way and helped put me up in my first play. You can imagine the shock when I told my parents I wasn’t going to med school, I was going to go study theater and learn how to do costume makeup.”
So now that she gets to play a doctor, “it really feels full circle. My parents are thrilled by this. They’re sort of like living out their moment.”
I am sure they have been living out their moments with her ever since she became an actress. Not only does she excel in every role, but she is also a caring individual who gives back all of the time. What more could any parent want?
NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) and NCIS Special Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) are taking a trip to the Aloha state, and we will get to see what happens when they meet up with NCIS: Hawaii on March 28th.
I am sure it was hard for CBS to get the two actors to leave a very cold Los Angeles for a warm, beautiful in Hawaii. And I bet their co-stars are extremely jealous, as they should be.
Tonight starting at 8:30p, CBS is going to air a 5-episode marathon of Ghosts, the #1 new comedy on broadcast TV, and rightfully so. The network let the viewers decide which shows they should air for Ghostmas. The audience has spoken, and we chose Pete’s Wife, Viking Funeral, D&D, Alberta’s Fan and Possession.
We did good with our choices, but does the cast agree with us? I recently attended the CBS Winter TCA Press Day, and I asked the cast what their favorite episodes are. What did they tell me?
Asher Grodman, who plays Trevor, the pantless businessman from the ’80s, said, “I’ll say this. But this is a sentimental thing. For me, the pilot is just very special, because it’s what brought us all together, and it was this thing that was kind of floating in the air that we just never were sure was going to come to fruition.” He added. “That’s a nice way for me to side—step your question. But it’s the pilot, because it was just like the —— it was the end of the tunnel.” Sadly, the pilot episode is not airing tonight. However, you can and should watch it on Paramount+ or CBS OnDemand.
While we won’t see that tonight, it is starting off with Pete’s Wife. Three cast members weighed in on that one. Utkarsh Ambudkar, who is Jay a living so he can’t see the Ghosts, said, “I like Pete. I like Pete’s episode.”
Viking Thorfinn, played by Devan Chandler Long, added, “Pete’s was the most emotional. I cried. That was touching. Román Zaragoza, the native American ghost Sasappis, chimed in with, “And Devan, we got to do some fun stuff in that one. That was a beautiful one.” Long concluded with, “Yeah, it was one.”
So what episode does Richie Moriarty, who plays Pete, prefer? He said, “I really liked D&D, too. I loved Brandon [Scott Jones] and Nigel’s storyline. I love John Hartman, who plays Nigel. I think he’s so good,” Then he shared another part of the game-changing episode. “And I love the opening up this opportunity to communicate more with Jay. Having us playing with Jay in that episode was a super fun kind of new window into a great side of things in this show. So that was an exciting episode, too.”
Three other actors talked about an episode that was not centered around them. Flower child Flower, played by Sheila Carrasco, said, “I was going to say, I loved watching Alberta’s Fan. It’s really fun, Danielle [Pinnock] do her thing and watching Rebecca [Wisocky] and Devan have their storyline. It was such a beautifully written, such a well-done episode.” Carrasco did not appear in it, so she wanted to let us know, “It was so cool to be able to watch it as just a fan of all of these amazing actors.”
Critics Choice Award nominee Brandon Scott Jones, who plays the Revolutionary War soldier Isaac, added, “I’ll say that the moment at the end of Alberta’s Fan where she goes, ‘Because I’m famous,’ lives in my head rent-free. And will even long after I’m dead. I will be buried with that in a loop in my coffin.”
Rebecca Wisocky, who stars as Hetty, the Victorian owner of the mansion they all live in, pitched a future for her co-star by saying, “The flashback that we’re all dying to see is Alberta singing in that club back in the day. That’s our secret cast wish, for that to happen sooner rather than later.”
There was one more actor who added her thoughts. Rose McIver, who sees the Ghosts had a great answer, “I think the Season 2 premiere, when we get that one day, is going to be even stronger.” I kind of agree with her. I would’ve said the 10th season premiere because I don’t want this show going anywhere anytime soon.
To see why I and so many others love Ghosts, tune into the Ghostmas marathon tonight.
