THOSE wacky American Idols aren’t idle at all. A lucky seven of past and present Idols will be releasing new discs this season, including season five’s silver-haired winner, Taylor Hicks.Yet while the Soul Patrol is clamoring for Ford pitchman Hicks’ post-"Idol" debut on Nov. 14, Clay Aiken’s "Claymates" will get satisfaction much earlier. Aiken, the runner-up to Ruben Studdard in the second season, will release his long-overdue third disc, "A Thousand Different Ways," next week.Aiken stole the season-five finale this spring when – virtually unrecognizable with longer, darker hair and wearing a suit – he thrilled a geeky auditioner by joining him in a duet of Elton John’s "Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me." The new disc will feature 10 covers, including Foreigner’s "I Want to Know What Love Is," Dolly Parton’s "Here You Come Again" and four original tracks. While Aiken lost the title to Studdard, the two singers will go at it again, taking their musical battle to the charts. Studdard, 27, releases his third disc, "The Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear," Sept. 26. His debut, "Soulful," went platinum – but Aiken’s debut, "Measure of a Man," went triple platinum and holds the title of having the biggest sales week, 613,000 copies, of any "Idol" alum album.Even more Idols with new music on tap:Season five top-10 finalist, space cadet and Cowell-described "naughty little minx" Kellie Pickler’s debut disc is due Nov. 14.Season five runner-up Katharine McPhee satisfies the McFever with her first album, late in the season.Season five top-10 finalist and sullen rocker-boy Chris Daughtry, who turned down an offer to lead Fuel, makes his debut on Nov. 21.Season three winner and TV autobiopic star Fantasia Barrino’s second album is due Oct. 17.

I am looking forward to Clay and Chris’ albums, the rest do not interest me.

Season Five American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/BNA Records. BNA is a label under the SONY BMG Music Entertainment umbrella in Nashville, TN.The 20-year-old native of Albemarle, North Carolina, was an instant fan favorite with her quick, down-home wit and personality. Singing since “before she could talk,” Kellie will have a single at country radio in September with her debut album coming on November 14. Currently on the American Idols Live! Tour 2006, Pickler will record the album in between tour dates.Kellie enthused, “I’ve always dreamed of getting a record deal so now my dream has come true! I’m really excited about making my first album and giving something back to the fans who supported me on American Idol.”On Pickler joining the label, SONY BMG Chairman Joe Galante said, “We are very excited to have signed Kellie. The recognition she received from Idol is a huge advantage in launching a new artist and her sense of humor and humility are endearing. It’s not very often when someone with that personality and talent comes along and she will bring instant attention to her music and our format.”
American Idol
Bet you she will sell more records than McPriss!

I so think she was, don’t you? Remember all those rumors they told her to lose weight? Guess they found a different way to do it. Let’s boycott them.

Clay Aiken honored by Bush |

President Bush continues to closely ally his administration with American Idols. After meeting with the current crop this summer, he has now appointed Clay Aiken to the President’s Committee for People With Intellectual Disabilities, according to a White House release.Clay has devoted considerable charitable efforts to this cause, so it’s not a random celebrity appointment. Interesting
Idol Chatter (Thanks Clinton)
Good for him. He sincerely does care about People with Intellectual Disabilities, so he really deserves this.

New release dates for Ruben and Fantasia |

Just a quick bulletin to fans of Ruben and Fantasia to confirm that their new albums have been postponed. Ruben’s The Return moves from Oct. 3 to Oct. 17, while Fantasia’s as-yet-untitled second album moves off Oct. 17 to Nov. 14 (also the date for Taylor and Katharine’s albums). And the date-juggling continues
Idol Chatter
And it still will not help album sales because both are going to still bomb.
