Being the Ricardos proves Oscar winners can’t play every role
October 19th, 2021 under Lucille Ball, Prime Video. [ Comments: none ]

Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are playing Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Being the Ricardos. Many of us were thinking they were going to be bad. However, we would not really know until we saw the trailer.

Today, Amazon Studios released the first look, and they are not bad. They are awful. Kidman is trying to speak like an American, so her speech is slowed down. Therefore, she sounds like herself and not the legendary actress. Since we didn’t really see her in action, we don’t know if she looked like her or not. Bardem, on the other hand, looks more like Fred Flintstone than Ricky Ricardo.

I love Aaron Sorkin’s work, and I know that Lucie Arnaz praised the movie, but I think this is a colossal fail. However, a TV executive said to me today that he is going to wait to see the whole movie before he judges the performances. He is a better man than I am a woman because I think as awful a person as Ball was rumored to be, she deserves better than this.

Are you going to see it on December 20th, or would you rather watch an I Love Lucy marathon that will most likely be airing that weekend instead?

The sketch show Kids in the Hall is getting another season on Amazon Prime Video. They already started filming, and Dave Foley is giving us a sneak peek of what some of his characters will be.

There will be facial hair. Well, except when he is playing a she.

We don’t know what he will be doing with each look, but I can’t wait to laugh along with him and her.

Amazon Prime Video gets into the award show business
August 19th, 2021 under Awards, Prime Video. [ Comments: none ]

There are so many award shows these days, that you can’t watch all of them. Therefore, their ratings are down and too costly for the networks. Therefore, it makes sense that broadcast would want to part ways with them, and streaming would want to pick them up.

Case in point, Amazon Prine Video announced today that they will be airing the Academy of Country Music Awards starting in 2022.

“We’re excited to continue to expand our content offerings for Prime Video customers by being the exclusive home for the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2022 and honoring the best in country music,” said Vernon Sanders, co-head of television, Amazon Studios. “Reaching this milestone with our partners at the Academy of Country Music and MRC as the first major awards show to be livestreamed speaks to our dedication and commitment to continue to both entertain and innovate for our audience.”

I have a feeling we will be getting a lot of concert events leading up to the ACMs. So it is a win/win for everyone but CBS, who used to air the ACMs.

I believe that if this does well, other award shows will do the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Golden Globes return that they will go Netflix. And ABC can start moving their shows to Disney+. Well, all of them but the Oscars.

I Know What You Did Last Summer gets a Fall premiere date
August 11th, 2021 under Mila Kunis, Prime Video. [ Comments: none ]

Amazon

I Know What You Did Last Summer went from Lois Duncan’s 1973 book to the big screen in 1997 and now it is going to the small screen starting on October 15th. That is when Amazon Prime Video will release the first 4 episodes of the 8-episode series.

The thriller that stars Madison Iseman, Bill Heck, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck, and Brooke Bloom is described as, One year after the fatal car accident that haunted their graduation night, a group of teenagers find themselves bound together by a dark secret and stalked by a brutal killer. As they try to piece together who’s after them, they reveal the dark side of their seemingly perfect town—and themselves. Everyone is hiding something, and uncovering the wrong secret could be deadly.

If it is anything like the movies, I can’t wait to spend my Halloween month watching IKWYDLS.

I am rooting for Cinderella’s evil stepsisters
June 30th, 2021 under Prime Video. [ Comments: none ]

Amazon Prime is bringing Cinderella to life again on September 3rd. This time she will be played by Camila Cabello with Billy Porter as her Fairy Godfather.

While it is just a tease, I am not sure if we needed to see her story again, even with the changes. At least not this musical version. Maybe it is just the way the audio was mixed, but Cabello’s voice came off as really whiny. If it wasn’t the mix, then I don’t know how we are going to be able to watch the film without earplugs.

What do you think? Will you be watching?
