Dirty Dancing is a slow boring strut
May 24th, 2017 under ABC. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de4L5peVq3o
Back when I was a kid and I saw Dirty Dancing, I remember loving the film. Then I watched the remake, and I wondered if I really enjoyed the film or I thought it was boring. I honestly don’t remember the last time I saw the 1987 movie.

Anyways, that was then and tonight at 8p on ABC, they are airing the remake. All I will tell you is if you liked the original, then you are going to want to skip this. If you have never seen the Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Garner starrer, then you might tolerate the 3 hour telemovie.

The telefilm starts off slowly and never picks up from there. I actually think it slows down. What made the original one so great was the chemistry between Baby and Johnny Castle, and Swayze’s dancing. In this one, there is not even a spark between Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes. Not only that, neither one of them can dance. Prattes is so bad, I had to ask my friends on Facebook if we actually thought Swayze was sexy in that movie. I just felt no heat from Prattes and his moves were so amateurish. How can they make a movie called Dirty Dancing and not have dancers in it?

But it isn’t all bad. Katey Sagal sings a sultry version of Fever. Nicole Scherzinger can dance and does her best with what was given to her as Johnny’s dance partner who needs an abortion. Sarah Hyland, who plays Bay’s sister, is perfect for the ’60s, so much so I would like to see her get more roles from that era. When it comes to the rest of the cast and the movie, it is honestly forgettable.

Well, not everything. After the final dance scene, you know the one with the lift, we get a completely different ending. An ending that will leave even the slightest fan of the original ready to put this version of the corner, set it on fire and not put it out until she’s like the wind.

In short, skip the 3 hour remake. The version I sat through was just over 2 hours (no commercials) and it felt like 24. It is that torturous. Dirty Dancing lives up to half its title, dirty as in a huge mess.

UPDATE: I just rewatched the original and it makes me hate the remake even more. They took out all the rehearsal scenes between Castle and Baby to add more dialogue for the unnecessary characters they added. They changed up key points for no reason. And besides the new ending, they made the first sex scene boring. Basically, they took out a lot of the dancing, chemistry and heart to make it a long drawn movie that will put you to sleep by 8:20p. Watch the original instead, you will be thanking me.

Who won The Toy Box?
May 20th, 2017 under ABC, Mattel. [ Comments: none ]

If you are like me, then you wanted Arya Ball to win The Toy Box ever since the season premiere. But the winner of the reality competition came in the final episode and it was 3D Liquid Art. While it is a cool toy and I can see kids enjoying, I don’t think of art projects when I think of Mattel. When I think of Mattel, I think of Barbie, Hot Wheels and board games.

On that note, another one of the toys from the last episode is also being produced by Toys”R”Us; and it didn’t even make it to the finale. That card game is Noisy Persons. I have played card games like Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity with my friends and I look forward to playing this one with their girls. I can totally see kids enjoying this, plus it also helps them with reading. And in Burbank, it teaches them acting! Which is a prerequisite in school. Joking.

And on a sweet note, even though Candy Crusher didn’t win the show, it is still being sold by the toy store under the name Sweet Shaper.

Hard to believe of these three, that Wiggies and My Ballerina Doll weren’t picked up Mattel. The former seems so up their alley. Maybe someone else would consider it for their dolls like Bratz.

Now when it comes to the show in general, I am OK with it not coming back. At least if it does, they need to get rid of Eric Stonestreet. He is the worst game show host ever. Instead of calming the contestants down before they would go in front of the judges, he would make them more nervous or tell an unfunny joke. In fact, he was more immature than half of the kids on the panel. You know which 2 I am talking about. I just won’t name them because I don’t want to diss a kid, just the kid who never grew up. Shark Tank works without a host and if The Toy Box comes back, which I doubt, they need to do the same. Or replace the Modern Family star.

What did you think of the show? What did you think of him? What did you think of the winner?

Roseanne is back with both Beckys
May 16th, 2017 under ABC, Roseanne. [ Comments: none ]

When rumors started swirling that Roseanne was coming back, fans had 2 questions. The first one is how are the going to explain how Dan is alive and the second one is which Becky would play her in the revival.

Today, when ABC announced that the beloved sitcom is coming back in 2018, they answered one of the questions. In the press release announcing the cast they said, “The eight-episode reboot, featuring the original cast – Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky)… Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, will also appear in another role.” Hopefully her name will still be Becky because that is how we know her.

When it comes to show coming back, I am hoping it still has its ’90s feel because today’s sitcom are missing the long lasting feel that the comedic programs had in the latter part of last century and we need that. We also need the realness of Roseanne.

Here is ABC’s Fall schedule!
May 16th, 2017 under ABC. [ Comments: none ]

ABC announced their Fall schedule and there will be a lot changes, but a lot of stability too.

Mondays nights start off with Dancing with the Stars and that leas into The Good Doctor, a medical drama from the creator of House. This time the doctor will have been diagnosed with autism and savant syndrome.

Tuesday nights starts off with The Middle and that is the only thing that stayed the same. Fresh Off the Boat moves to 8:30p, followed by Black-ish, on its new night and the new comedy The Mayor. The night ends with The Gospel of Kevin.

Wednesday are the same except that American Housewife will air after Modern Family and before Designated Survivor. This is their strongest night by far.

Thursdays are completely untouched, but Friday is getting a makeover. Once Upon a Time moves to Fridays at 8p followed by Marvel’s Inhumans for 8 weeks. When that Marvel show ends Agents of SHIELD will be back. Both renewed shows were picked up for 22 episodes each. Which shocks me, both shows should have shortened final seasons.

Sundays starts off with its weakest game show To Tell The Truth, followed by Shark Tank and the new show Ten Days in the Valley.

That is fall, but midseason is overstacked and the network at this point doesn’t know how they are going to handle The Bachelor and/or The Bachelor: Winter Games, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and/or Dancing with the Stars Jr, Quantico, Roseanne and a slew of new shows. To me the network that has the least Reality is going to have problems promoting all of them while the Olympics is airing on NBC. But then again, their Dramas have not been doing well. Maybe it is time for a change for them. I think it should be more comedies, but they think their answer will be with Idol which I think and almost everyone but them thinks will fail big time. We shall see.

All four of this season’s time travel broadcast shows have been cancelled
May 11th, 2017 under ABC, Fox, NBC, Primetime TV, The CW. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu2FpSlV94s
A year ago, when the networks announced their 2016-2017 schedules, time travel was a big theme. NBC had Timeless, The CW had Frequency, ABC had Time After Time and Fox had Making History. Now, a year later all four have them are no longer traveling through any more time time. That is because all of four were cancelled. Making the TV Execs wish they had a time machine, so they could come up with a more winning theme.

Ever since I was a kid and I saw the movie Time After Time, I fell in love with the concept of time traveling. Therefore, I looked forward to and watched all the shows.

Timeless was up first and it started out good. Then they focused more on the conspiracy theory then traveling through time. Causing me to lose interest in the show which had an occasional good episode.

Next up was Frequency and I loved the pilot. But, I stopped watching after 3 episodes and I honestly can’t remember why.

Time After Time was the one I looked most forward to because the movie was a huge part of my childhood. I am still obsessed with Jack the Ripper because of it. Anyways, I liked the show and where they were going with it, but ABC pulled it after just a few episodes. Which I think was a huge mistake even though the numbers weren’t there unfortunately.

Finally, there was Making History and Leighton Meester is absolutely brilliant on this show. She needs to work nonstop after this. But back to the show. I think they got lost somewhere in the writing because it is very scattered. Because of that it is one of TV’s lowest rated shows with barely over a million tuning in each week.

Having said all of that, I don’t foresee any time travel shows being announced next week at he upfronts. I do expect a lot of This Is Us knock offs and most of them failing.

Talking about failing, Making History wasn’t the only show cancelled at Fox today. Son of Zorn and APB also bit the dust. While Fox was giving us bad news, NBC picked up Blindspot and Blacklist for another season.

Stay tuned for more because we are still missing the fates for a lot of the ABC, CBS and Fox comedies. Which will be no laughing matter for me.

UPDATE: ABC and NBC picked up and cancelled a lot of shows.

ABC picked up the beloved comedy The Goldbergs for not one, but two more seasons! While American Housewife, Designated Survivor, Once Upon a Time and Agents of a Shield will back for another season. When it comes to who won’t be back, that list is longer. Going going gone are American Crime, Secrets & Lies, Imaginary Mary, The Real O’Neals, The Catch and Dr Ken.

Those are their scripted show, they also picked up Shark Tank, The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars. The latter got not one but two cycles which means that American Idol and Dancing with Stars will both air in the Spring. I think that will be a huge mistake. Too much for a reality for a network that has the least of it of the big 4.

Now what about NBC, Powerless lost its power and Great News got some great news. Oh and The Voice continues to mess with Idol because they announced that Kelly Clarkson joins the show as a coach in the Spring. Yesterday, they announced that Jennifer Hudson is joining the show in the Fall.
