Before Debbie Gibson was one of the most popular teens in the ’80s, her parents threw her a birthday party at Tavern in the Green in Ghostbusters. How cute was the 13-year-old in that 1984 movie?
Dick Van Dyke went to Disneyland yesterday, and he found himself being serenaded by some of his biggest fans. As soon as The Dapper Dans saw the legend, they had to sing to him one of their favorite tunes, Jolly Holiday from Mary Poppins, a little film he made 60 years ago with Julie Andrews (who turned 88 yesterday).
What did the 97-year-old think of their rendition? He loved it. And he shared a little story about filming that song, “Julie sang, like, a little sharp on top of the note, and I just went crazy. I’m flat most of the time. I had trouble staying with her because she was always a little bit sharp.” I never noticed during the umpteenth times my older niece made me watch that musical.
Back to the barbershop quartet, I loved their faces beaming with pride because they were able to sing for the OG and GOAT. It is a moment they will never forget. For all of the people they have delighted throughout the years, it was nice to see them being delighted by someone else.
And back to Van Dyke. Even though he is sitting in a wheelchair during their performance, he was standing up in other videos that were captured from the park yesterday.
Holidays keep coming earlier and earlier every year. But we really need to start setting some precedents. Because today, October 2nd, CBS announced their plans for New Year’s Eve.
I haven’t even finalized my Halloween plans, and they think I am even thinking about what I am going to be doing on December 31st. I haven’t even started planning for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And that is more important than NYE.
So, what are they doing to ring in the New Year? They asked Thomas Rhett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Lainey Wilson to perform at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.
“Building on what we have established over the last two years by focusing on our artists, the fans and the vibrancy of downtown Nashville, this year’s lineup is shaping up to be our most exciting yet. We will celebrate 50 years of the iconic southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, the skyrocketing Lainey Wilson and country music superstar Thomas Rhett, with over a dozen artists and special guests still to be announced,” said executive producer Robert Deaton. “Nashville is quickly becoming THE destination for New Year’s Eve, and we are honored that CBS wants to help us continue to show off our music and incredible city with a new multi-year deal!”
Do you think that CBS announced their NYE plans too early? So, what do you think should be our holiday schedule for starting to plan for them, like we don’t prepare for Valentine’s Day until January 1st?
Stevie Nicks joins Tina Turner and Gloria Estefan as the latest Rock Icon to get her own Barbie doll. In honor of the release, the Fleetwood Mac singer revealed the emotions that she went through accepting Mattle’s offer to bring her likeness to a Barbie.
My Stevie @Barbie has been with me now for several months. When Mattel came to me asking if I would like to have a Barbie made in the “Rumours” cover style I was very overwhelmed. Of course I questioned “would she look like me? Would she have my spirit? Would she have my heart…” When I look at her, I see my 27 year old self~ All the memories of walking out on a big stage in that black outfit and those gorgeous boots come rushing back~ and then I see myself now in her face. What we have been through since 1975~ the battles we have fought, the lessons we have learned~ together. I am her and she is me. She absolutely has my heart.
Thank you Mattel for working with me to make Stevie Barbie so pretty and so soulful and so real; she means the world to me!
The beautiful doll is wearing the black dress she wore on the album cover of Rumors, and she comes with Nicks’ signature golden moon necklace, tall black boots, and a tambourine with cascading ribbons.
Rumours was the height of the band’s success, so Mattle could not have picked a better moment to capture Nicks for an eternity. Seriously, I look at the photo, and I can hear her singing Dreams.
Don’t wait too long to get her because they only made a limited amount of the Stevie Barbie.
In the good old days, candy canes tasted like peppermint. But now they taste like everything under the sun, thanks to Archie McPhee.
The candy store, with a twist, added three new flavors this season and they are possum, Dante’s Inferno, and gravy! We know what gravy tastes like, but what about the other two? The Dante’s Inferno one is described as having a hint of demonic spice, while the possum has a porky flavor to them. What that means, I have no idea. So, I hope someone tries a box for $6.95 and tells me.
I grew up in major cities, so I have never had any form of road kill. But, if I were to try one, it would be possum because they are ugly mother fuckers who deserve to die.
