The beautiful reason why Nashville’s Claire Bowen cut off her hair
November 12th, 2015 under Admirable People. [ Comments: none ]

Yesterday, Nashville viewers were shocked when Scarlett walked in and her long blonde locks were gone. Claire Bowen explained why she got the drastic haircut on Facebook and it was for an admirable reason.

Wanna know why I cut it all off?
When I was four years old, I asked my mother; “Are there heaters in Heaven?”
I had just been diagnosed with end stage nephroblastoma, after several visits to a GP who denied anything was wrong and dubbed my parents “paranoid.” I’d overheard the doctors telling my family that the only hope of saving me, was an experimental treatment that might kill me anyway. But without it I had maybe two weeks left. The hospital was cold. I’d never felt air conditioning before.
Life in the White Palace (Granddad’s nickname for hospital) meant I got to grow up surrounded by children just like me. We were mostly bald, all tubed, taped, bandaged up and stitched back together. We were all missing parts, some obvious like eyes or legs, others more hidden, like lungs and kidneys. Those who still could, tip-toed around like little fairies because chemotherapy had destroyed the muscles in our legs and it hurt to put our heels on the floor. But we were all together, so no one’s appearance came into question. No one got laughed at or teased. We were all we knew.
And then I got really lucky. I survived, my hair grew back and I got strong again. I look relatively normal on the outside, but on the inside, I am still the same stitched back together little creature, in a world where people are judged so harshly for the way they look. It has always been completely incomprehensible to me. How can people think there’s time for that?
I was really inspired when I heard a story about a little girl who said she couldn’t be a princess because she didn’t have long hair, and I wanted her, and others like her to know that’s not what makes a princess, or a warrior, or a superhero. It’s not what makes you beautiful either. It’s your insides that count… even if you happen to be missing half of them.
Every scar tells a story, every baldhead, every dark circle, every prosthetic limb, and every reflection in a mirror that you might not recognize anymore. Look deeper than skin, hair, nails, and lips. You are who you are in your bones. That is where you have the potential to shine the brightest from. It is where your true beautiful self lives.
Thank you ABC network and particularly our creator, Callie Khouri for letting me change Scarlett’s hair, and my team, family and friends for helping me make the decision. If it makes even one person think twice about judging another, then in some small way, the world is better.
Self-esteem takes a lot longer to grow back than hair.

Bowen was beautiful with the long hair, but she is even more gorgeous without it.
If one little girl’s life is changed because of what she did, then that is a great start. But I think lots and lots of little girls will read or hear why she did it and they will be inspired. They will know you don’t have to have long hair to be a Princess, you just have to be happy with who you are. That is your most beautiful feature and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

The Grinder meets Grindr!
November 12th, 2015 under Brat Pack, Jimmy Kimmel. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpxF2J5I07c
Rob Lowe is starring in The Grinder on Fox and he just discovered there is an App where men who love the show can meet up on Tuesday nights to watch it together. That App is called Grindr; and yesterday on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Lowe showed us how it works. Men can just download it, swipe to see all the available men in the area, and finally click on the one they want to watch the sitcom with. Once he has selected the one that he wants, he just has to wait for him to knock on his door. Once he does that is when the real magic happens. It is 30 minutes of passion, they will never forget. Until the next episode of The Grinder.

On December 3rd, NBC is taking us to The Wiz for one night only, but the live musical will have two Dorothys. Stephanie Mills, who played the role in the 1978 movie and Shanice Williams, who is doing it now. To promote the upcoming performance, the two of them sang Home, the lead’s signature song, together. If this is what we can expect next month, I can’t wait to see it live!

RIP Nathaniel Marston

Nathaniel Marston passed away today at the age of 40, days after his horrific car accident according to his mother, Elizabeth Jackson. She took the Facebook to break the sad news.

Dear family and friends, it is with a heavy heart that I share this devastating news. My beloved and cherished son, Nathaniel Marston, who was putting up the good fight until last night was not able to continue due to the traumatic and devastating nature of his injuries. Nathaniel passed away peacefully as I held him in my arms. Father William, myself and his second Mommy Lisa, and our dear friend Charlotte were by his bedside, he was not alone. His injuries, which Dr.’s did their best to heal were not responding to treatment and one after another his bodily functions failed to support his life.
Had Nathaniel lived he would have required a ventilator and would never have been able to utter one more word and would have been sentenced to life as a quadriplegic. A condition that Nate would have never have been able to tolerate. By Gods love and mercy Nathaniel was spared this living hell and has traveled on to be with God, his cherished Grandmother Mary Jackson, Grandfather John Jackson and my sister his Aunt Nora…. God is merciful and because of his mercy God ended Nathaniel’s pain and suffering at 3:15 today PST in Reno, NV. Nathaniel now lives with Father God, surrounded with peace, love and light.
Know that I am deeply grateful for all of you for taking this tragic two week journey with me Nathaniel and our family. Your unfailing support, prayers, love and positive thoughts that you have sent our way, in what has been the worst two weeks of my life, have held all of us up giving us the strength to get through each hellish day.

He was best known for starring as Michael McBain on One Life to Live, but in recent weeks he was known for the car accident that most likely would’ve left him a quadriplegic. People kept checking in on his mother’s Facebook page for updates that he would recover; but sadly he did not.
So now let’s pray for her, and keep his spirit alive by watching his work.
