The Steel Magnolias remake is really strong!
October 7th, 2012 under Lifetime, Queen Latifah. [ Comments: none ]

When I heard that Lifetime was remaking Steel Magnolias, I have to admit that wasn’t pleased about it. I was like why mess with a good thing. Well when I watched Lifetime’s revival of the Oscar nominated movie, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised that tonight’s version that debuts at 9p is better than the original one. While the 1989 decided to add more comedy to the Dramedy, the new one focuses more on the heart. Because of that I really believe this version is even better and more emotional than the original.
The Lifetime movie has a cast that is just as stellar as the original. Queen Latifah plays M’Lynn and Condola Rashad plays her daughter Shelby. Even though Queen is playing her TV mom her real mom Phylicia Rashad is starring as Clairee. Clairee’s best friend Ouiser is played by the perfectly cast Alfre Woodward. Jill Scott stars as the heart of the movie Truvy and Adepero Oduye is her assistant Annelle. Together these women, who shot the movie in just 18 days, make it seem like they have been lifelong friends and because of that you want to be in on their circle of friendship.
Recently I was on a conference call with the telemovie’s producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and they told why the adapted this play for the small screen. Here is what Zadan said about it:

We approached it as though it was a new piece of writing and we’re not doing anything to copy the original production because the original play was amazing and the original movie was amazing.
And we wanted to do something that was brand new and we wanted to do something that would be done our way with our cast and our production. And it’s using the material as the basis of that. And the same way as if you work in the theater, you do what they call revivals.
And, you know, it may have been done originally the play earlier, you know, on and then it’s done later on with other casts. And each production is relevant because they’re done with different directors, different producers, different actors.
So we feel like what we’ve done is fresh and different from the original and yet as relevant as the original.

When you watch the movie on Lifetime tonight at 9p, you will see it is as relevant as the first one if not more so!

You’ll need ice cream to cool off from tonight’s The Good Wife!
October 7th, 2012 under CBS. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 9p The Good Wife has a scene that is so hot you are going to want ice cream to cool off from it. I won’t tell you what it is, but I will tell you it involves Kalina and her ex-husband. And let’s just say it is so risque that it will make most cable shows blush.
Now I could tell you about the case they are arguing tonight and what is going on with the trustee, but you won’t care because it is all about that scene.
Well that and Maura Tierney guest stars tonight and who doesn’t love having her back on TV?

Butter is like butter!
October 6th, 2012 under Alicia Silverstone, Ben Affleck, Modern Family. [ Comments: none ]

Butter is out now in theaters and on Video On Demand and just like melted butter on warm bagel, nothing is better to put a smile on your face!
Bob Pickler (Ty Burrell) has been the Butter Sculpting Champ for the last 15 years, but he has been asked to step down and let someone else have a chance at the title. His perfect uptight wife Laura (Jennifer Garner) is not willing to give up that title and will do anything to keep the honor in the family. So she decides that she will take up butter sculpting and keep the title in the family.
Bob meanwhile has found other interests to keep him busy now that his hobby is no longer slicing it for him. He has been going to the local strip club and he hooks up Brooke (Olivia Wilde) for a price. She wants $600 for their love, but Laura crashes in their rendezvous and she doesn’t get paid. Brooke wants her money and will do anything to get it. Like get back at Laura and enter the Mastery of Butter contest.
But she isn’t Laura’s only competition. Young orphan Destiny (Yara Shahidi) has recently been taken in by The Emmets (Alicia Silverstone and Rod Corddry) and she has decided to take up Butter Sculpting. The little girl is quite amazing and she will give Laura a run for her money.
Laura won’t have that, and she gets her ex-boyfriend, who owns the small town’s car dealership, to help her out. Boyd Bolton (Hugh Jackman) is more than willing to help because Laura lets him ride her like one of his cars.
Now it is B-Day for Laura and Destiny and only one of them can be the winner. Who will it be? You will have to see this movie that is as smooth as butter to find out.
If you enjoyed Drop Dead Gorgeous, then you are going to adore this film. It is a fun look at the big going ons in a small town. It doesn’t get much bigger butter in Iowa and Butter is larger than life.
So make a like butter on a hot pancake and run to see this movie in the theater or on On-Demand today. Seeing it is the syrup on top of your day!
Oh and men who are hesitant to see this movie, did I mention Olivia Wilde has a stripping scene in this movie and she makes out with Twilight’s Ashley Green in a steamy sexy kissing scene? Yeah I think there will be a line as long as the one for the women’s bathroom of men waiting to see this film now!

Finally a kid tells Jimmy Kimmel he is just mean to his face!
October 5th, 2012 under Jimmy Kimmel. [ Comments: none ]

While other networks were using boring old people to talk about the Presidential debate, Jimmy Kimmel decided to discuss it with 4 kids. Their take on it was much more informative than anyone’s who was on CNN, MSNBC or Fox News and because of that I really enjoyed it.
What I absolutely adored had nothing to do with the debate coverage, but what one of the cute tykes said to him. During the last year Kimmel has torture kids by having parents eat all of their Halloween candy, have the adults give kids crappy Christmas presents, Kimmel gave children fake lie detector tests and finally he had parents buy ugly clothes for their little ones to wear on their first day of school. Well yesterday as Kimmel was wrapping up the segment, he told his contributors “I believe that children are our future. Just not the four of you.” And then one of the four said, “Ah, you’re just mean!” That kid is going to make a great politician someday because he is the voice of his generation. He already has my vote!
