Jay Leno agrees to pay his non-writing staff
December 2nd, 2007 under WGA Strike. [ Comments: 2 ]

After 24 hours of really bad publicity Jay Leno followed the suits of David Letterman (who is also paying Craig Ferguson's staff) and Conan O'Brien and paying the non-writing staff of his show out of his pocket for the next week according to The Hollywood Reporter. For obvious reasons the staff was not happy with Jay Leno who kept telling them would be OK if they were laid off. But when push came to shove they were laid off yesterday with a Christmas bonus of $100 for each year they worked for him.

But "Tonight Show" insiders say Leno's actions have destroyed morale at the show and in the process dented the host's previously squeaky-clean reputation as one of television's A-list nice guys.

"A lot of people don't want to work for Jay anymore," another staffer said. "His true colors have shown. We were told he won't cross the picket line until David Letterman or Conan O'Brien do so that he can look like the good guy to the WGA."

All of the laid-off workers who spoke for this article asked that their names not be used.

Insiders said the source of the sudden hostility toward Leno is a conference call he held shortly after the WGA strike began.

"He was on speaker phone," a staffer said. "There were 80 of us. He told us not to panic. He said to trust him. He said: 'I can't get into details, but nobody will miss a car payment or lose their house. We're family. Trust me. I'm going to take care of this.' But that was the time we should have been looking for new jobs."

More recently, a letter NBC sent to now-laid-off staffers said, "If your services are needed, we will contact you."

"That's standard boilerplate," said Joe Medeiros, a striking writer who has worked with Leno for 18 years. "It's corporate butt-covering."

Corporate butt-covering or not I wonder if the staff will be going through this all over again when Jay Leno loses his show to Conan O'Brien? I also wonder if he would have paid the staff if all the negative press did not come out about him yesterday?

VH1’s Celebrity Rehab’s first failure
December 2nd, 2007 under Arrested, Mug Shot. [ Comments: 3 ]

American Idol's Jessica Sierra who took part in VH1's Celebrity Rehab was arrested again in Tampa from public drunkiness and resisting arrest according to WTVT
According to the Tampa Police Department, when officers responded to a disturbance at the bar, they came into contact with Sierra, and she was asked to leave the bar.
When they got outside, officers say Sierra became combative, starting a verbal and physical disturbance with people outside the bar.
Officers say when they arrested her, she attempted to push away from the officers and flee the scene.
Sierra was charged with disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest, and violation of probation.
She is still in jail because she was violent around cops and she is being held with no bond. VH1's Celebrity Rehab just got hotter because now we know there is at least one failure.
BTW the black hair makes her look trashier don't you think?

Siegfried & Roy coming out of retirement?
December 1st, 2007 under Admirable People. [ Comments: 1 ]

Norm Clarke is reporting that Siegfired and Roy are getting bored with their 4 year retirement and are considering coming back to the Vegas stage!
When he Norm asked the duo if they would be returning to the stage ever again, here is what they said.

Roy coyly responded: “A good magician never lets the cat out of the bag. Act surprised when you hear about it.”
Added Siegfried: “It’s all in the experimental stage, conceptual,” he said Friday in a rare interview.

Siegfried also described what Roy has been going through since that fateful day when he was attacked by one of their tigers during a performance in 2003.

He continues to marvel at Roy’s dedication to making a full recovery. Roy’s regimen includes rehab every day and three days a week at an athletic club, including spirited games of racquetball.
“It cheers me up,” Siegfried said. “All the doctors say what he’s doing now is impossible. I’ve always said, ‘I am the magician and Roy is the magic.’ And Roy shows me every day the magic — the magic of life.”

If they come out of retirement I wlll make sure to go see them the next time I am Vegas because those two know how to put on a show!
