RIP Top of the Pops |

The British Broadcasting Corp. announced Tuesday that it is canceling "Top of the Pops," its flagship music chart show, after more than four decades on the air.
BBC director of television Jana Bennett said the show, which first appeared in 1964, would air for the last time on July 30.
"We’re very proud of a show which has survived 42 years in the U.K. and gone on to become a worldwide brand, but the time has come to bring the show to its natural conclusion," she said.
"Top of the Pops" has featured everyone from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to Nirvana and the Spice Girls. At its peak, the weekly rundown of Britain’s best-selling acts attracted more than 15 million viewers.
The show has suffered flagging ratings in recent years as it faced competition from cable and satellite music channels and the Internet. Last year it was moved from the main BBC1 channel to BBC2, which attracts a smaller audience.
In a statement, the BBC said that "in a rapidly changing musical landscape ‘Top of the Pops’ no longer occupies the central role it once did."

Comic book hero CLARK KENT, the alter ego of SUPERMAN, has been described as the stereotypical Jew by rabbi and writer SIMCHA WEINSTEIN. Weinstein, whose new book UP, UP AND OY VEY explores the concept of the Jewish superhero, insists the Man of Steel’s cape conceals a "bumbling, nebbish Jew". He says, "Only a Jew would think of a name like Clark Kent. He’s a bumbling, nebbish Jewish stereotype. He’s WOODY ALLEN. "Can’t get the girl. Can’t get the job – at the same time, he has this tremendous heritage he can’t express."

Nicole Kidman and fiancé Keith Urban are breaking out the charm on the paparazzi. Photographers set up camp outside Kidman’s harborside home in Sydney after the couple released a statement announcing that they will soon be married in Australia. But to show they have no hard feelings, the couple extended an olive branch on Tuesday, sending out a case of beer and water bottles to the parched shutterbugs. According to the Associated Press, on the case of 24 bottles of “Victoria Bitter” beer was a note reading: “Enjoy!, Nicole & Keith.” Earlier in the day the paparazzi sent Kidman flowers to celebrate her 39th birthday and sang “Happy Birthday” through the gate intercom. Kidman was all smiles when she emerged later. When asked how she planned to spend her birthday, she replied: “Not much, dinner at home with mum … boring. Thank you for the flowers and the singing.”

Christina Aguilera is set to tour America’s jazz clubs to promote her new album – under the pseudonym Baby Jane. The singer has ditched her pop and R&B roots for a jazzy sound on her new CD and wants to honor that world by performing live in some of America’s smallest venues. She says, "We’re gonna go around to small little jazz and blues clubs around the country, which is the setting and tone of what this album is really inspired by." And, according to MTV News, Aguilera is adopting the name Baby Jane for the upcoming tour.
