Newman and Redford together again?
June 20th, 2006 under Movies. [ Comments: none ]

Veteran actor Paul Newman is in negotiations to reunite with his Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid co-star Robert Redford for the last film of his illustrious career.

The pair, who have not worked together since 1973, are collaborating on a new project which may entice Newman to return to the big screen in his first major movie role in four years.

Despite lending his voice to animated hit CARS, which is currently top of the US box office, Newman has kept a relatively low profile since Road to Perdition, and recently revealed he only has one film left in him.

But the 81-year-old hopes his swansong will see him re-team with Redford.

"(We’re) working on something but it’s not by any means a slam-dunk," he said.

"(It has to be) either a wonderful character in a wonderful film or a character that was acceptable in a film with some social content."

Redford joked: "The real question is whether he can remember his lines or not."

OMG! Now this is a list of inductees.
June 20th, 2006 under William Shatner. [ Comments: none ]

William Shatner, Tom Brokaw and Regis Philbin are joining the Academy of Television Art & Sciences Hall of Fame.

Director James Burrows ("Will & Grace," "Cheers") and former network executive and producer Leonard Goldberg ("Brian’s Song," "Hart to Hart") also are among those who will be honored, academy Chairman Dick Askin announced.

This year’s inductees have helped shape the television industry and serve as an inspiration for others, Askin said in a statement Monday.

Shatner starred in "Star Trek" and is an Emmy-winner for his role in ABC’s "Boston Legal." Brokaw, who retired as NBC anchor in 2004, continues to work on documentaries. Philbin co-hosts "Live With Regis and Kelly" and will host the new NBC series "America’s Got Talent."

The induction ceremony has yet to be scheduled.

More than 100 people are in the Hall of Fame, founded in 1984, including Lucille Ball, Johnny Carson and Walter Cronkite. The TV academy administers the annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Long live Lewis the Cat!!!
June 20th, 2006 under Animals. [ Comments: none ]

Lewis The Cat has been spared a death sentence.

In addition, he won’t have to be declawed as part of a special probation program granted to his owner, Ruth Cisero, by a judge Tuesday.

Superior Court Judge Patrick Carroll placed Cisero on probation for two years and ordered her to perform 50 hours of community service. A further condition of her probation is that Lewis remain housebound.

Maureen Bachtig – a neighbor of Cisero’s who Lewis attacked in February – did not appear in court Tuesday, but conveyed through a prosecutor her wish to have Lewis declawed. Cisero’s attorney, Eugue Riccio, said that they strongly opposed declawing – calling it a painful, difficult process that can actually exacerbate a cat’s aggressiveness.

"It’s literally giving a pound of flesh,’’ Riccio said. ‘’It’s cruel.’’

Cisero was charged in February with second-degree reckless endangerment, after Lewis slipped out the door Feb. 5 and attacked Bachtig on nearby Sunset Circle.

At the time of his escape from Cisero’s home, Lewis was under a restraining order in connection with the strafing of another neighbor in December. That order permitted him to go out briefly at specified times of the day. At the point he attacked Bachtig, he was minutes away from a permissible outing time. But that incident was the last scratch.

Lewis was placed by animal control authorities on a full, lifetime lockdown. He was ordered to remain in the house 24 hours a day and leave only in a secure cat carrier.
