RIP Moose – best known as Frasier’s Eddie
June 26th, 2006 under Animals, Obits. [ Comments: none ]

Moose, the feisty Jack Russell terrier who played Eddie for 10 years on TV’s Frasier, has died, his trainer Mathilde Halberg tells PEOPLE.

"He was 16-and-a-half years old, and he just had an incredible charisma and was a such a free spirit," said Halberg. Moose, considered the Lassie of the ’90s, died Thursday night of old age at Halberg’s Los Angeles-area home.

Moose retired from showbiz when he was 10, and, although he also played a starring role in the 2000 Frankie Muniz-Kevin Bacon feature My Dog Skip (as the older Skip), he was best known for stealing scenes from Kelsey Grammer on the long-running Emmy-winning NBC sitcom.

"He was always trying to put Frasier in uncomfortable circumstances," said his trainer, who had rescued him in the early 1990s.

"I saved him from the pound. His owners called me as a last resort," Halberg recalled. "He was extremely mischievous, always escaping, chewing up things and running off. When he killed a neighbor’s cat and chased some horses, that was it."

Not that anyone who owns a Jack Russell would find such behavior surprising. "But then," remembered his trainer, "he began his career, and he will never be forgotten."

Barbara Walters a radio star?
June 26th, 2006 under TV News. [ Comments: none ]

Whenever he sees Barbara Walters, George Clooney mentions how he’s still paying for telling her in an interview that he was never going to marry again.

Future Clooney dates will have an opportunity to revisit that talk, and hundreds of other interviews Walters has conducted for ABC News specials over the past three decades, due to a deal announced Monday with Sirius Satellite Radio.

Sirius will air a weekly two-hour series, starting next year, that replays many of the interviews Walters has conducted since joining ABC in 1976. About four interviews will be featured in each program, with new introductions by Walters to place them into the context of the time.

"It is a wonderful way for them to be heard," Walters told The Associated Press. "So many of them are classics. It is everything from Lucille Ball and John Wayne and Bing Crosby and George Burns to Matthew McConaughey and Julia Roberts."

Separately, Walters will also conduct some call-in programs for Sirius.

2 deaths in the final Harry Potter book
June 26th, 2006 under Harry Potter. [ Comments: none ]

Children’s author J.K. Rowling has revealed that at least two characters will die in the seventh and final installment of her bestselling Harry Potter series, but was careful not to say who. Children and adults are expected to rush and buy the final Harry Potter novel in their tens of millions when it is complete, and if the publication of the sixth book is anything to go by, secrecy surrounding the plot will be tight. Rowling has already said that the final chapter of the seventh book was written long ago. "The final chapter is hidden away, although it’s now changed very slightly," she said in an interview broadcast on Monday on Britain’s Channel 4. "One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn’t intend to die." When asked to be more specific, she added: "No, I’m not going to commit myself, because I don’t want the hate mail or anything else." She did explain that she understood an author’s desire to kill off the main character of a successful series. "I’ve never been tempted to kill him (Harry) off before the end of book seven, because I always planned seven books and that’s where I want to go. "I can completely understand, however, the mentality of an author who thinks ‘Well, I’m going to kill them off because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels … so it will end with me, and after I’m dead and gone they won’t be able to bring back the character’."

Fox News changes coming?
June 26th, 2006 under TV News. [ Comments: none ]

According to Broadcasting & Cable magazine, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes "is on the warpath" following the second consecutive quarterly drop in its ratings. The trade publication reported that in the second quarter, ratings for FNC are down 22 percent among 25-54 year-olds and 8 percent in total viewers. "Insiders say that, even though Fox News remains No. 1, Ailes is fuming over the complacency he senses among staffers," the publication reported. It quoted a spokesman for Ailes as confirming that Ailes plans to clean house of slackers, saying, "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent."

Please before Fox News does a shake-up, CNN needs to clean house. Starting with De-Klien and then Anderson and Soledad and Blitzer as an anchor and so on.

You have to feel for Britney on this one.
June 26th, 2006 under Bad Paparazzi, Britney Spears/KFed. [ Comments: none ]

Sven. Angie.  Not famous names to you and me, but if you were a paparazzi on the Britney Spears beat, these people would be as important to you as the Princess of Pop herself.  They are the other photographers- your rivals- and when it comes to Spears the rivalry is tougher than usual.

At TMZ we see a lot of mobs of photographers pestering one celeb or another, but rarely have we seen such infighting as we did recently in Malibu.  The whole Spears clan was coming out of Nobu:  Brit and Sean, K-Fed, even Jamie Lynn and mom.  Clearly the shot was worth a lot, because the paparazzi were vicious in their jockeying for position.

Some photographers who had promised to stay crouched instead leapt to their feet, obstructing the view of others. The paparazzi were yelling at each other, instead of at the celebs.  The normal cries of "Britney! ""Kevin!" were replaced by shouts of "come on!" "get down!" and several f-bombs.

If the photographers are at each other’s throats like that, then Britney and family must simply be the biggest shot of the day.

Seriously, why was that shot worth anything? I do feel the paparazzi needs ot leave her alone. What is it going to take for the paparazzi to stop risking the lives of celebs and their kids?
