Anna Nicole is sad
June 26th, 2006 under Anna Nicole Smith. [ Comments: none ]

Anna Nicole Smith, 38, is charging $4.99 for a subscription to her twice-monthly video diary documenting her pregnancy and life as a new mother. According to her Web site, the first installment comes out today.

She also posted this message on her web site regarding the death of E. Pierce Marshall, who she’s been battling for inheritance money:

I am aware that my late husband’s son E. Pierce Marshall has died. The media has been contacting my attorneys in an attempt to get my reaction. Out of respect for his family’s request for privacy, neither my attorneys nor I will be making any comments.

It was quite classy of Anna Nicole to respect the memory of her ex-stepson. We were kind of expecting she’d send her condolences to the family atop a raft in a poolside video diary entry. But luckily for us, while the dead are not to be trifled with in Anna Nicole’s world, the unborn are fair game. So grab a fiver and sign up now. Operators and still-forming celebrity spawn are standing by!

Luke & Laura back together for the 25th Anniversary on GH!
June 26th, 2006 under TV Soaps. [ Comments: none ]

General Hospital is bringing Laura Spencer out of her four-year catatonic state to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Luke and Laura’s wedding, which was watched by 30 million people in November 1981.

Genie Francis, 44, has agreed to reprise her popular role for a limited run beginning in October and lasting at least through the wedding anniversary date (Nov. 16). No details were available on what will prompt Laura to come out of her daze, which began after she killed her father, Rick.

Francis joined the soap at age 14, and last left in 2002 to relocate to London, where her director husband, Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek’s Commander Riker), shot 2004’s Thunderbirds. Francis, the mother of two children, had a small role in the film as an investigative reporter.

The wedding landed Francis and her co-star Anthony Geary (Luke) on the cover of Newsweek and attracted show fan Elizabeth Taylor to guest star as villainess, Helena Cassadine.

"I am very happy to be returning to my General Hospital family and look forward to portraying a role that means a lot to me as well as the fans who have supported the character throughout the years," says Francis, who currently resides with her family in Maine.

ABC is planning a huge promotional campaign to mark the milestone, with Francis also agreeing to appear on the ABC-owned SoapNet. "We are very excited about Genie’s return as we gear up to commemorate a quarter-century since the biggest milestone in the history of daytime television," said Disney ABC daytime president Brian Frons. "The return of Laura Spencer to the show’s canvas will solidify the show’s already strong and poignant storytelling."

The strangest celeb wedding this weekend was…
June 26th, 2006 under Weddings. [ Comments: none ]

"Wyatt Earp" star Hugh O’Brian, 81, has married for the first time in what the couple described as "a wedding to die for." The weekend ceremony was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

"This is my first, and most definitely, my last trip down the aisle," O’Brian said in a statement announcing his marriage Sunday afternoon to his girlfriend of 18 years, teacher Virginia Barber, 54.

It was the bride’s second marriage.

Some 300 guests — including look-alikes of John Wayne and Pope John Paul — witnessed the ceremony at the cemetery’s Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection, publicist Monique Moss said Monday.

The Rev. Robert Schuller, pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, officiated, and the couple was serenaded by close friend Debbie Reynolds. Dubbed "A Wedding to Die For," the ceremony concluded with a cocktail reception.

O’Brian may be best known to baby boomers as television’s tough Old West marshal on "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp," which aired from 1955 to 1961.

Besides cleaning up the Tombstone Territory on TV, O’Brian appeared on dozens of shows over the years including "The Love Boat," "Murder, She Wrote," "Fantasy Island," "L.A. Law," "Charlie’s Angels," "Police Story," "Perry Mason" and "General Electric Theater."

Update on the Spellings
June 26th, 2006 under Aaron/Candy/Tori Spelling. [ Comments: none ]

"This is not Dynasty."

So said Aaron Spelling scion Randy, dismissing speculation that the TV titan’s family was torn by Carrington-sized grievances even as it grieved.

Patriarch Aaron Spelling, the prodigious producer of hits such as Charlie’s Angels, Beverly Hills 90210, 7th Heaven, and the backbiting family soap opera that was Dynasty, died Friday at the age of 83.

A private family service was held Sunday.

"This is a real family [that] loves each other," Randy Spelling said through longtime Aaron Spelling publicist Kevin Sasaki, per the Los Angeles Times.

Among those present and accounted for at the service: Tori Spelling and her new husband, actor Dean McDermott.

Early reports, based on information from Spelling’s longtime publicist, said wife Candy and son Randy, but not daughter Tori, were at Spelling’s bedside when the show-biz legend died. The news seemed to confirm reports of a family feud. But, as it turned out, Randy Spelling was not at his father’s side, either. (The son was en route, Spelling’s publicist later clarified.)

In the end, Tori Spelling herself all but confirmed the family-feud angle, albeit with a heartfelt spin. In a statement over the weekend, Tori Spelling said she and her famed father and former 90210 employer had recently reconciled.

"I am honored to be Aaron Spelling’s daughter," the actress said. "He had a heart that was as big as his talent."

Among the non-Spellings paying tribute to the producer was Alyssa Milano, of Spelling’s just-ended Charmed. Like Spelling’s more charitable critics, Milano praised the producer for "always ha[ving] his finger on the pulse of pop culture."

"He was one of the most loyal men in this business," Milano said in a statement, "and believed in me at a time in my career when no one else would."

Original Charlie’s Angels star Jaclyn Smith called her onetime boss a "dear friend and a truly genuine human being."

Stephen Collins, of Spelling’s still-running 7th Heaven, remembered the legend as a man. In a statement, Collins said Spelling was "was quiet, soft-spoken, gentlemanly, shy, and loved actors, having started as one himself."

A memorial service for Spelling’s Hollywood colleagues will be held in the coming weeks, the family said.

Also on the horizon, as reportedly promised by the ex-wife of Dean McDermott, a new book to be titled, My Husband Left Me for Tori Spelling.

Maybe things are just a little bit like Dynasty
