Ja’Net DuBois was found dead today at the age of 74 according to TMZ. The news is surprising because she appeared to be so happy and healthy when she appeared during the Good Times’ part of Live in Front of a Studio Audience in December. She also looked great when she attended The Hollywood Show, earlier this month, with several cast members from Good Times. Both Jimmie Walker and BernNadette Stanis commented about her passing as the news broke.

She became an international sensation because of their sitcom. She played the sassy, wisecracking Wilona, who was very good at finding a man. She just could not keep them. Eventually, her character fell in love when she adopted an abused girl named Penny, played by Janet Jackson.

Before, she was living the good times, her career was Movin’ On Up. Everyone knew her voice because she wrote and sang the theme song to The Jeffersons. Her voice was also heard on the animated show The PJ and it earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance.

These were just a few of the many memorable roles she had throughout her long career. Today, remember her by watching Good Times and having some great times with her. It is a series that never gets old, which is why it still airs on several channels like TV One.

I am not going to lie, when I heard the news, I went all Florida Evans and said, “Damn! Damn! Damn!”

She is survived by her daughters Yovanne and Rani, and her son Burghardt. Her son Raj died from cancer in 1987.
