Duke premieres at 8p on the Hallmark Movie Channel tonight and you will want to catch this movie that proves that dog really is man’s best friend.
Terry Pulaski (Steven Weber) has returned home from Afghanistan with shrapnel in his back and barely able to walk. Besides having the agony of his injury, he is also suffering from PTSD and feeling the agony of went on when he was overseas. He is not the man he used to be for his wife and daughter and can’t find any solace in his life. That is except for his best friend Duke, a beautiful smart Border Collie who is always there for his master when he needs him.
When Terry can’t take it anymore, he leaves his family and goes out on his own with Duke. After being on the streets and now living in a motor home on a friend’s lot, he has found a life for himself and content being with his dog and doing odd jobs when he can find them. But when his dog get very sick, he has no money nor any alternative but to take his companion to the vet to be put down. It is too much for him to handle, so he leaves his buddy and asks the vet to make sure his death is peaceful. As soon as the vet sees the dog, Angela sees a spark in his eyes that gives her hope he will be OK. She does everything she can to make him better and she succeeds.
Now that Duke is better, Angela (Allison Hossack) is going to do everything in her power to find Duke’s owner but how do you find a missing homeless man. And she isn’t the only one looking for him, so is Terry’s grownup daughter Alice (Sarah Smyth).
A man who thinks he is all alone in the world, has all of these people looking for him. Will they be able to find him so that his family can once again be whole. You have to tune into this movie that will capture your heart and make you believe that miracles do happen.
Steven Weber is so excellent in this movie, that I think he deserves the Oscar. I mean he had me crying so much, my pillow was wet.
Just to give you a hint how much this movie affected me; when I was watching the screener on my iPad and crying so hard my cat jumped on my bed and gave me a kiss. It is like she knew I was watching a movie about the love a human has for their pet and she wanted to let me know she loves me as much as I love her. I know it is corny, but Duke is just that spectacular. So make sure to watch it tonight on the Hallmark Movie Channel.
