Ian Ziering is so vain, he thinks that Hurricane Ian is named after him
September 30th, 2022 under Beverly Hills 90210 / Melrose Place, We've Been Mispronouncing Their Name. [ Comments: none ]

Ian Ziering starred in 5 movies about sharks in a tornado, so I guess he thinks he is famous in the meteorology world because of it. Why do I say that? That is because he thinks they named Hurricane Ian after him.

Last time I checked, the National Hurricane Center pronounces the storm’s names as ee-an and not eye-an. So, I guess it wasn’t named after all. Narcissist much?

Have we been saying Jake Gyllenhaal’s name correctly?
April 8th, 2022 under Jake Gyllenhaal, Saturday Night Live, We've Been Mispronouncing Their Name. [ Comments: none ]

For years, I thought that we pronounced Jake Gyllenhaal’s last name as Jill-in-hall. But then I was told it is pronounced as Gill-in-hall. So which one is it?

The actor cleared it in a promo for his appearance on Saturday Night Live this week. And it is Jill-in-hall.

However, now I am wondering if we have been pronouncing first correctly. Is it Jake or Ya-kay? What? We need to debate something about his surname since we now know how to spell it and say it.

We’ve been saying Lindsay Lohan’s last name incorrectly
February 23rd, 2022 under Lindsay Lohan, We've Been Mispronouncing Their Name. [ Comments: none ]

We have been saying Lindsay Lohan’s last name like Low-Hand minus the d. However, in a TikTok video, she pronounced it as Low-end minus the d.

So what is it? We are old dogs, and you can’t teach us new tricks. Sorry, Lindsay, Ariane Grand-e, and Chrissy Tie-gen, we are going to be saying your names as we have been saying them.

My bad, I’ve been saying Alicia Silverstone incorrectly
June 11th, 2021 under Alicia Silverstone, We've Been Mispronouncing Their Name. [ Comments: none ]

I don’t know about you, but I thought that Alicia Silverstone pronounced her first name as Ah-lee-sha. She does not.

The actress told us that we have been clueless about the correct pronunciation of her name via TikTok. The correct way to say it is Ali-SEE-yuh. As if we didn’t know that.

Did you know that? And are you going to start saying her name the way her parents did, or are you going to pronouncing it the way you think it is sounds? I am an old dog, so you can’t teach me new tricks.

Oh baby, baby, Smokey Robinson’s Chanukah fail
December 14th, 2020 under Celeb Oops, Smokey Robinson, We've Been Mispronouncing Their Name. [ Comments: none ]

Jeff Jacobson thought he would surprise his mother with a Cameo from her ex-neighbor, Smokey Robinson, with a Happy Chanukah greeting. Let’s just things didn’t go as the good son expected.

That is because when it came time for the legendary Motown singer to wish Michael a Happy Chanukah, Smokey had no idea what the Cheh-new-kah was. I didn’t either until I realized he was talking about Ha-new-kah.

Maybe, instead of going to the Go-Go, he should go to a temple when they open up again.

Seriously, I hope the track of his tears are tears from laughter and not crying. This is awesome and understandable. If you have never seen Hannukah spelled like Chanukah, then I can understand his mistake.

Heck, the first time I ever ordered a Chai tea, I thought it was pronounced like the Hebrew word for life, chai. I couldn’t understand why the barister was looking at me like I had horns growing out my head until she said the word properly. Whoops. It happens to the best of us, including me.

Now, I want one of the late night hosts to book Smokey on their show and have him try to pronounce the other Jewish Holidays like Rosh HaShana, Yom Kippur, Pesach, Rosh Chodesh, and Purim, to name a few.

UPDATE: Word got back to Smokey Robinson about his boo boo, so he made a request on Twitter. “Hey @jeffjacobson – in the spirit of 2020, I’m gonna need a do-over! Please DM your mother’s phone number so we can try this again.”

Jacobson gave Smokey’s his mom’s number, and true to his word, the singing legend called her.

That is what makes a man, a man. Someone who can admit his own mistakes and rectify them.

I hope that no one holds a grudge against him because mistakes happen to everyone.
