Michael Jackson’s pricey demands to perform tonight
November 15th, 2006 under The Jacksons. [ Comments: none ]

Michael Jackson has outraged organisers of the World Music Awards, after making backstage demands totalling a staggering £250,000. Jackson – who is set to perform his classic hit ‘Thriller’ at tonight’s (15.11.06) ceremony in London – demanded personal hair and make-up artists, a private jet and 20 first-class plane tickets for his entourage. The eccentric singer has also made a number of outrageous demands to staff at the Hempel Hotel, in London’s Bayswater area, where he is staying at a cost of £6,300-a-night. Upon Jackson’s request the lavish hotel has erected an 18ft wall on its first floor to provide more privacy for him and his three children, Prince Michael, nine, Paris, eight, and four-year-old Prince Michael II. A source said: "Yes, he’s eccentric but he wants to create a homely environment for them." However, the 48-year-old star’s unusual requests have apparently earned him a bad reputation among London’s top hoteliers.

I hope they get their money’s worth. How do you think he is going to do tonight?

Michael Jackson’s comeback performance will be a Thriller!
November 8th, 2006 under The Jacksons. [ Comments: none ]

Reclusive superstar Michael Jackson plans a dramatic comeback later this month with a performance of his classic song "Thriller", the organizers of a music awards ceremony said on Wednesday. The 48-year-old superstar has been a virtual recluse since his acquittal of child molestation charges in June, 2005, dividing much of his time between Bahrain and Ireland. Last month the World Music Awards announced that Jackson would appear in London to accept a Diamond Award that goes to artists who sell more than 100 million records worldwide, and this week they confirmed Jackson’s intention to perform. "Yes, it’s his first performance in a long time," said a spokeswoman at Outside Organization, one of the public relations companies publicizing the event. "It’s something of a comeback if you like." The choice of song coincides with the 25th anniversary of Jackson’s "Thriller" album, one of the biggest selling records of all time. Jackson has said he planned to move to Europe in a bid to resurrect his musical career, and in April a record label said he intended to make a new album to be released in 2007.

Jermaine Dupri quits Virgin over Janet album
October 21st, 2006 under The Jacksons. [ Comments: none ]

Janet Jackson’s boyfriend, producer Jermaine Dupri, is out at Virgin Records. Dupri was head of urban music at Virgin. But late yesterday, according to my sources, Dupri quit—i.e. was forced out—after disappointing sales of Jackson’s comeback album called "20 YO." Three weeks into its release, the album is a dud with less than 500,000 copies sold. I told you in this space last week, before anyone else, that the CD had dropped an astonishing 77 percent in sales in its second week. For Jackson, this is especially painful since ‘20 YO’ was the last album on her Virgin contract. She now faces the task of negotiating a new deal with little leverage. Dupri was partially responsible along with Randy Jackson ("American Idol" fame, not the brother) for making Mariah Carey’s "Emancipation of Mimi" album a monster hit. With Janet, he opted to make her into something she couldn’t be at age 40—a hip hop diva—rather than present her as an adult star. Kids did not flock to her, and adults didn’t want to hear it. At the 11th hour there was talk of Mariah possibly re-recording one of the ‘20 YO’ songs with Janet to resuscitate the album. But with Dupri gone, ‘20 YO’ will probably just get written off as a mistake now. This will leave Jason Flom, head of Virgin, to rebuild the urban department at the label—something I’m told he’s been itching to do since he took over last year.

I don’t blame Virgin for that album failing, I blame Janet. She was overexposed and the album stunk, how is that Virgin’s fault?

Survey says, Paris Hilton the most over-exposed celebrity!
October 8th, 2006 under Britney Spears/KFed, Lindsay Lohan, Nick Lachey/Jessica/Ashlee Simpson, Nicole Richie, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, The Jacksons, Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes/Suri. [ Comments: none ]

Paris Hilton is the most over-exposed celebrity that the public wants to see less of. A survey conducted by Forbes.com showed the public has grown tired seeing the star of "A Simple Life." She is followed by singer Britney Spears, Anna Nicole Smith, Spears’ husband Kevin Federline, former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, actress Lindsay Lohan, Tom Cruise and Nicole Richie. The Olsen twins May Kate and Ashley also made it to the list at number eight followed by Michael Jackson, businessman Donald Trump and Jessica Simpson, whose "overexposure" rating had soared from 17 percent in 2003 to 41 percent in mid-2006. Robert Thompson, the founding director of the Center for the Study of Popular Television at Syracuse University, suggests to these celebrities to learn how to study the fine line between courting the spotlight and knowing when to retreat. He said, "It’s a challenge because celebrity in many ways is defined by how much exposure you get. "But the perfect equation is to get as much exposure as you possibly can right up to the moment when it gets to be too much, and then you want to pull back."

Wow! They are dead-on except that Jessica Simpson needs to be higher up!
