TV Roundup: Who’s hosting the Oscars? Who’s leaving Law & Order? Which show moves to the Fall?
November 15th, 2023 under Dick Wolf, Jimmy Kimmel, Oscars, Ryan Murphy. [ Comments: none ]

ABC and AMPAS announced today that Jimmy Kimmel will be back to host the Oscars for a fourth time on March 10th.

“After his triumphant return to the Oscars stage last year, we are honored to have Jimmy back to guide us through one of the most beloved celebrations in entertainment. He is such a valuable member of our Disney family, and we could not be more appreciative of him and his entire team,” said Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals. “We are also grateful to have the multitalented Molly back on the producing team, and we have no doubt that this year will be a spectacular night celebrating the biggest films of the year.”

I don’t know if I would want him back. Weird things happen when he does it. First, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced that the wrong movie won Best Picture in 2017. Then, last year, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock? What is going to happen in 2024? Only time will tell.

Law & Order is getting ready to get back into production, but they are going to do it with one less detective. That is because TV Line reports that Jeffrey Donovan is leaving the series due to creative differences, aka he got a Burn Notice.

Producers are looking for a replacement for this season’s 13 episodes. I am sure there are a lot of New York actors who will jump at the chance. I hope they go with a female like Jill Hennessy.

Donovan is not the first actor to leave the show. His TV partner, Anthony Anderson, opted not to return for the second season of the revival.

Due to the strikes, broadcast television lost half a season. Therefore, not all of the shows will be airing in the first part of 2024. Deadline is reporting that 9-1-1: Lone Star’s 5th season will not debut until the Fall. And this season will only be 12 episodes.

Lone Star is not the only show Fox is moving. New dramas Doc and Rescue: Hi-Surf are also waiting to make their debuts. And I am sure these series will not be alone. CBS already announced that Matlock and Poppa’s House will also be delayed until next season.

9-1-1 was picked up for another season, but…
May 1st, 2023 under ABC, Fox, Ryan Murphy. [ Comments: none ]

The good news is that 9-1-1 will be back next season. The bad news, it won’t be on Fox.

What? It’s Fox’s #1 show. But, like many aging series, it just got too expensive going into its 7th season. And they didn’t own it.

So who owns it? 20th Television, which is owned by Disney, which owns ABC. So the first responders drama that stars Angela Bassett and Peter Krause is moving over to ABC.

“Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, ‘9-1-1’ has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep ‘9-1-1’ in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”

Shocking but understandable. It will be interesting to see how things will change on its new network. Hopefully, there won’t be too many.

I have a feeling that today’s pickup put all of ABC’s bubble shows in more trouble than they were in yesterday. So The Conners, which is in season 5 with a large cast, might not see a 6th one. I am also not sure if ABC will stick with The Rookie: Feds. Hopefully, because it is a freshman series, they will give it a sophomore season.

9-1-1 joins Station 19, The Rookie, Will Trent, The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, and Abbott Elementary on the 2023-2024 schedule.

Back to Fox. The news isn’t all bad. They renewed 9-1-1: Lonestar for a 5th season. So I guess there won’t be any more crossovers for the 9-1-1’s

Fox finalizes deals with 9-1-1 and The Resident to come back for season 6!
May 16th, 2022 under Fox, Ryan Murphy. [ Comments: none ]

Fox woke up this morning with two of their biggest show’s futures in flux, and by lunch, everything was resolved.

The network was able to work out deals to bring back 9-1-1 and The Resident for their sixth seasons.

Because of this last-minute arrangement, they were not able to announce their fall lineup at the Upfronts. I am sure that will be coming soon.

Good thing Fox was able to make it happen. If they didn’t, then we would’ve called 9-1-1 and been taken to Chastain Memorial to deal with our grief.

It was literally hump day on 9-1-1 today
July 29th, 2021 under Ryan Murphy. [ Comments: none ]

9-1-1 is back at work filming episodes for the upcoming season. Today the Fox show took over Hollywood Blvd. So, what can we expect from their venture outside of the studio? They are bringing the big guys, as in camels.

Why are there camels all over Hollywood and Highland? We will have to tune in for the season premiere on September 20th to find out. The only hint we have is that Los Angeles will be hit by a major blackout. Well, that and this one from Executive Producer Juan Carlos Coto.

Pose is walking its final runway this season
March 5th, 2021 under FX, Ryan Murphy. [ Comments: none ]

Pose creator Steven Canals had some big news to share about his FX drama today on Good Morning America. The good news is that the show will debut its third season on May 2nd. The bad news is that these seven episodes will be the show’s last ones.

“It was a very difficult decision for us to make, but this has been an incredible journey and we have told the story that we wanted to tell the way that we wanted to tell it,” Canals told “GMA. “Although we know you’ll be sad to see the show go, this season will be filled with all of the love and laughter and tears that you have come to expect from the Evangelista family.”

This season will take place in 1994. Pray Tell (Billy Porter) will be having health issues. I have a feeling the series will end with his death from AIDS.

Let’s just hope it is not the death of Porter’s career and someone snatches him up ASAP. Our TV’s need his sparkle. We also need Pose’s sparkle, but that is no longer happening after June 6th.
